Sammo is a LEGEND! This man had his own tv show back in the 90’s when u didn’t see a lot of Asian leads taken seriously by Hollywood and his credits in film are bonkers!
Sammo have already started during the early 70's when acted together with Bruce Lee. Sammo is Jackie Chan's Kung fu elder brother , They all learn martial art kung fun since their boyhoods
His preying mantis and fights with Jackie Chan were legendary back in the day. It's a shame both him and the other master Lo Meng, another Shaw Brothers legend whose martial arts skills could been a challenge even for Donnie Yen were treated so poorly in the IP Man movies.
He was the least skilled one even the first master resisted better (who became a comedic relief in later movies by getting beaten by everyone yet even he did a better fight against ip man than the master you like )
Ipman is confident. So he never says a word when he's fighting. And his expression is always serious. He hear everything people saying he can't do. He ignore distractions . And let his skills respond
Another way to put is this: The angrier your opponent, the better chance you have at winning. Why and how? Being angry can easily cause you to make mistakes and lapse. Once that happens, it's basically game over.
@@ryaneffrianto9663 Which was a real shame because his fighting style was somewhat similar to boxing(rarely relied on his feet). I donno what it called though, makes me think it's the tiger form.
Honestly yeah. He’s always had the grace of an acrobat with the body of a cannonball, and yet I hardly ever see many fans of fighting movies mentioning Sammo.
LOL! I don't blame you. It's like these WW2 movies having the SS or Germans fighting the war. Are they speaking German? No! English! Give me a break! Let the movies show people speaking the native language but add subtitles. At least it would be more realistic.
As good as the choreography and fighting is in this movie, this initiation is pure nonsense and makes zero sense. If Yip Man has to beat all other masters in order to be a master himself, then the other masters are clearly inferior fighters and can no longer be called master. Hell, if I'm a student under all the other masters, after Yip beat him, I will immediately jump ship and pay Yip to teach me instead. The other masters might as well just close shop and pursue another career.
I understand your point of view; however, the goal is to gain the respect of all the other masters, not to defeat all of them (as you can see in the movie). Gaining respect doesn't necessarily imply beating all your opponents. Magnus Carlsen is better than Kasparov at chess, but if you ask him who the greatest chess player of all time is, he will certainly answer without hesitation: Kasparov!
those type of martial arts (gung fu in Chinese really just means martial arts, it's a very general term) has been watered down for probably at least 800 years now but damn is it fun to watch well choreographed scenes. No need to say much about Donnie. Look how well Sammo moves at that age and, not to mean disrespect, appearance/shape. It shows the benefit of martial arts for the body / brain / aging / agility etc.
I used to admire the fight choreography of the Ip Man movie, but after watching THE raid 2, I feel the art of fighting in this movie will be ranked number 2 after The Raid.
The upturned chairs/stools are stand-ins for the pit of spikes or blades which lined a martial arts arena's edge, back before the modern era like it was Mortal Kombat.
The two master lost because their kick is predictable and it is high kick and slow so Ip man manage to catch their kick easily and beat them. The third master which is Sammu hung is a veteran kung fu master and he never use high kick instead he use variation of hand kung fu attack to match IP man kung fu.When he kicks he use double kick like Jet li double kick so it is very good attack because if one kick is blocked then other kick can penetrate the defence.

Heh yeah, that was one of the dumbest moves I've ever seen. You should never turn your back on your opponent, losing eye contact AND exposing your back. Dumb af.
Akan ada kah pengganti legenda2 filem kung fu/ shaolin/ wing chun/ tae kwondo yang hebat2 seperti Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan,Chow Yuan Fat, Jet li?.. terhibur mnonton filem2 hong kong lakonan hebat mreka dan rakan2
He invented the internet back in the 1930's. It was done with dots and dashes over telegraph. Never really caught on till the invention of the PC much later.
So all of those master lost their balance in every move unlike Ip Man. Ip Man probably learned to center or balance his body. That's why Wing Chun was the best at the moment.
