This video saved an old iPad today! Apple Genius bar deemed it dead and wanted to throw it away for me as it just looped and wouldn't connect to itunes. I figured it was the battery that was dead after so many years discharged. I took it apart, re-charged the battery with an external charger for a couple of hours, and put it back together. Now it's working perfectly! I love repairing things instead of throwing them away, and this video helped me do so. Thanks a lot!
Good work Magnus! That's super awesome to hear. So much of this "older" tech is being disposed of so we love to hear stories of "keeping the party going" ;)
TIP= I made a tool that slides down with a piece that then gets behind each clip and you slide sideways to pop it inwards and release from outside case. I then keep all the right hand side clips and remove the top and bottom ones and use only 2 on left side to lock it into place ready for easy removal next time in just 1 min. I also add thin pieces of double sided tape to pad the sides out so it clips into place with no movement. Leave the top side unsticky so the screen is only resting on tape and not stuck to it for easy removal.
the wifi chips are on the cable with the charger where you marked that one with the marker so if you're ipad has no wifi just find a replacement charger port assembly and switch it out and do a restore.
I have found that if you remove the plastic from the batteries, the batteries come out easily, leaving the plastic frame which is easier to remove without batteries
You might want to move the current step/procedure bubble to a top corner or move your logo altogether so you can place it lower as it certainly gets in the way quite a bit. A minor inconvenience & OCD trigger (ha) but it is more important than having your logo displayed all video. Just my 2¢ Great video altogether, & thank you very much!
I don't know if I should give you a thumbs up because I am having an issue replacing the screen to the LCD. You covered everything but what I NEED TO KNOW !! :-(
O is upper case, o is lower case, N is as well upper followed by it's subtlety different lower 👉n, last but most certainly not least G is the upper form in America trailed by its lower tag along g. Personally I always capitalize God's first letter of his name, the fact God isn't his givin name leaves this practice open to interpretation as far as my phonics teacher is concerned. 😚
I know I am very late but the thing at 15:09 I think is for WiFi this is because it is a metal back so it will be limiting to the WiFi. The Apple logo is plastic so not as bad!
I feel sad that the older gadgets like the ipad 2 are almost unusabe today. I made this video on the best ways to use our old devices. Let me know what you think about it. Thanks.
Can you please tell me where you got that little tool you’re using to pry the iPad open. And maybe other tools you recommend to use in this procedure. Thank you
@@mrarcadiaive heard of that business, heard the owner makes comments like the one you replied to, then replies similar to yours to plug the business without paying for advertising or breaking advertising laws. She must be a beautiful angel genius master teacher Empresa 🤑
The tabs could have been produced for new tablets in factory and found their way onto oem list on service manual. What you iterate may very well still be true. 😊
I know this is an old video but there are few things he got wrong. First, you don't need to use a heat gun to unstick the battery. Second, that isn't a light behind the apple logo, it's the wifi antenna.
that is not to make the apple logo light up lol. That is an antenna they put there because it is plastic since they can't put it anywhere else on the metal ipad housing and there is metal behind the screen.
I to had the same thing, I think it is the motherboard that has gone, not sure what to do with it I don’t want the information out there if someone gets a hold of this and get the information off of this.
This is a dead battery, I fixed mine by taking it apart and charging the battery with and imax B6 LiPo-charger and boosting it in NiMh-mode. If you don't have a similar charger available you might as well buy a new battery instead. Genius bar wanted to recycle my ipad for me as they couldn't fix it.
You mentioned that you can buy replacement tabs for the ones that break when disassembling. A quick search on EBay and I can't find these tabs. Can you tell me where to get them?
Eduvex We wish it was only as easy as popping a new battery in, but unfortunately it does require a decent amount of work. If you're not comfortable tackling it yourself, we'd be happy to do this for you.

Unplug your router, plug back in 😉 or check wiring harness if you have cover off. Use a multi meter to check continuity across things with obvious contact and no resistors between. Even a blind mouse finds a nut now and again 🙂 thats not sarcasm, is one way to troubleshoot when technical bulletins or manuals aren't available 😉
This is when somebody designs something to never be reparable. Why? Why Steve? Was not enough being billionaire? Did you need more money? To live how long more?
I hate tossing stuff but can't imagine it being worthwhile to repair my mom's old dead battery ipad ...I dont understand how anyone is selling these for $100ish either??? For WHAT?? Collector item? Will have to keep battery charged and replace now and then and go through all THIS? in one month it is 2019...I'd say it is over for these guys ...no?
Yes - I fucking hate Apple and their complete idiotic design towards a device that will eventually break down , but nearly impossible to repair by home users.
Battery is bonded tightly to the aluminum housing to disperse dangerous battery heat from charging. With lithium it's unwise to allow owner to replace the cell as it must be the same precise chemistry, which determines peak charge voltage. Charge circuit is designed for a particular chemistry so as not to apply too high voltage resulting in thermal runaway, aka fire. Is there a quality tablet made where you can easily replace the battery? Do you really want a tablet powered by 32 AAA batteries?
