I prefer the butterfly keyboards also over the one on the 2016 MacBook Pro. I’m keeping my MacBook Pro 2019 15 inch MBP forever! I purchased the magic keyboard for my 11 inch iPad Pro and I never take it off. I love it!

Considering Apple software doesn't have right click, does the track pad even register it? Does right click work in the remote desktop app?

Yes it does - as a convert from PC about 5-years ago "right-click" has always been an option that can be enabled within OSX. With the mouse in RDP on iOS - it's automatic.
