Thanks Wade for a good review! Got my iPhone 12. It’s a good decision and I’m happy with it. I noticed a very small difference on the camera quality of the 12 pro. Maybe the use of Lidar will be emphasized in few more months or years. A hundred dollar difference or 10kPHP increase from the 12 Pro is not worth though.

The iPhone 12 images are more contrasty, but the 12 pro images have better dynamic range detail in shadows and highlights. The 12 pro photos will age better, probably.

When you zoom in, actually a lot different. I bought iphone 12 in the first place, and the noises bothered me a lot.... like almost the same with iphone X so i changed to pro and it is way better zooming in, it is much clearer and no noise came out.

Got a question about some pics where there are buldings on it. Why does the 12 look as it would handle architectural lines (walls etc.) strangly compared to the 12 pro? the buildings seem to fall much more over than with the Pro. Is there a real differce here? Around the 4 minute mark. i've seen that effect in another comparison video too. I know the phenomenon depends on the kind of lens used (tele or not), but I would think that in that side by side comparison 12 and 12 pro use the same lens at the same time (exept for when you really zoom in).

12 >>>> for most people. BUT^ to me i find pro a much better because: - I own a (blue) regular 12. It has paint chipping around camera lens due to cheap build quality. - Telephoto lens and the stainless build is definitely worth it. - Portrait shots work different for both. Pro has professional bokeh effect while regular have soften effect. Also Portrait edge detection on (objects especially) you’ll definitely gonna see a difference.

With the iPhone 12 when you're holding it, does your finger sometimes touch or block the camera?? If it does can you tell me if its the main camera it blocks please...? I know the 12 pro bottom camera blocks the top part when taking a photo, & the top one blocks the main camera...

The camera differences will likely only be apparent in low light / night mode and with a slight enhancement in video stabilization. Also it may have sharper zoom. That’s really the difference between the Pro & Pro Max

just 120USD difference between 128G 12 and pro, and telephoto is the must to take the picture of my kids outside. And focus speed is important for night time, kids funny moment is too short to focus. I think I would just choose Pro.

Hey I have an iPhone 11 Pro Max which I’ve had over a year and I do love it but the size and weight overall is a bit too much for me so I’m downsizing with my next phone. I can’t decide whether to go 12 or 12 pro. Can you give me any advice? Is there much difference between the 11 pro max and 12 cameras? I’m not a professional - I just take a lot of photos of my kids mainly lol. Also I really love the black iPhone 12 but I’m not as keen on the pro colours which is another reason I’m not drawn to the 12 pro. I know the pro has more ram and the lidar sensor etc but my 11 pro max has the same ram as the 12 and I’ve found it fine and no lagging etc. I also upgrade every 1-2 years so I don’t keep my phones a really long time which is another reason I’m thinking 12 over pro. What do you think? I can’t find many comparison videos between the 11 pro max and 12 or 12 pro so it’s hard to decide! Thanks and sorry this is so long :)

At launch, the 256gb versions of the iphone 12 and iphone 12 pro are separated by $250 us dollars. I would rather buy the iphone 12 and use that extra savings on a used panasonic lumix dmc zs50 for travel photography. I read a review from a user that his iphone 12 pro max died after recording 4k video at 60 fps at 1 hour and 20 minutes. This is why I like to have a dedicated camera for capturing video and photos while conserving the phone for actual calling and texting.

Great comparison . Wouldn’t the ram on the pro be a bonus for future proofing and handling today’s ever so bloated social apps? Not many reviewers mention the extra ram you get with the pro. So my opinion is weigh the extra memory option for the regular 12 against more ram and extra camera sensor . My two bits. Cheers

Ram doesn’t make much difference unless you do a lot of multitasking but most people seldom use their phone in that matters. The extra ram also for Lidar usage.

Quite subjective like your pictures however most will be drawn to the shiny steel frame and weight of the Pro. Strangely it does factor in, but 100% agree not worth the bump in price..nice video.

Very good review. I bought a 12 for my wife last fall and 12Pro for me. For point and shoot, the 12 is quite satisfactory. On the other hand, the phones are VERY different in two areas that matter to me: 1. Optics telephoto is always superior to digital telephoto. As the video shows, the difference is quite obvious. Personally, I never use digital zoom. I use best focal length available to take the picture, and then crop in post-processing. 2. The LIDAR is a very accurate range measuring sensor, and it’s performance doesn’t depend on lighting conditions. Low light focusing is much faster and accurate. Unfortunately, its range limit is only about 15 meters, but for most pictures, that’s fine. IF you’re creating floor plans, LIDAR is extremely valuable. I’m not sure if all such apps use it, but I know some do. That would be a question for the app developer.

Thanks, nice video. I was in doubt, because in my country the difference price is bigger than USA. In this case I'll go with 12 normal.

On definitely has more definition than the other however, like you said, the difference is not huge so ir would be most cost effective to just do the 12 plus the colors are so much more fun 😅
