iPhone 13 mini vs 12 mini battery drain test - how much the mini has improved? 

Really happy with my 13 Mini so far. I’m home (Wi-Fi and brightness at 30-40%), the battery is at 73% after 3h16 of use today, impressive! Update: currently at 18% with 8h00 of SOT (8 hours TODAY, i didn’t use my phone past midnight yesterday night). I did mainly Instagram, RU-vid and Social Medias at home on wifi. I’m really impressed by the battery life, it’s better than my iPhone 12 Pro

remember, that this test was on wifi, 5g can drain battery faster, but from what I've seen - 13 mini has better battery life, than regular 6.1" iPhone 12 🤯

would be interesting to see how they do with tougher tests like getting an uber (using the app and taking a ride) and leaving the map on, that really drains it fast and I drive to turn it off during the ride but then want to make sure we are going the right way so I turn it back on occasionally. Hopefully the difference between the two batteries remains.

This is the video I was finally looking for. I have the iPhone 12 Pro Max and was debating switching to the iPhone 13 mini. With the battery life improvements, the 13 mini is, in my opinion, the best value iPhone in Apple’s line up for this year.

Tbh I never had complaints about the 12 mini, i don’t know what people do on their 12 minis to complain about the battery so much! I also think if you pick up a mini like I did, you’re probably not that much on your phone, it’s a blessing to go from the pan that is the 8 plus to the small 12 mini and have the same amount of screen

Apple was sooo insanely accurate, the 13 mini was said to have 1 hour and a half more battery than the 12 mini, and according to the video it does have 1:30 more

Setting display brightness to 75% on both results in a brighter display at 13 mini, since its 100% is brighter (800 nits) than the 12 mini (600 nits). Still impressive though.

Wonderful review! Been waiting this. Knowing that this is ultimately the LAST Mini of iPhone (we couldn't get one in the next iphone series), this would be a great buy now. It has improved battery life. I love small phone but with flagship power and camera. Definitely will buy this as soon as it gets available in my country. Philippines.

0:36 You have to redo your test because while you set them both at 75% brightness, they have different max brightness. At 75%, 13 mini is at 600nits; 12 mini 468.75nits

Exactly the reason why I traded my 12 mini in for the 13 mini. The 13 mini is the phone to get, people. Battery, cameras, brighter display, smaller notch, better processor- its a no brainer to trade your 12 mini in for this new 13 mini. Especially when Apple will give you $400 for your old 12 mini.

I was going to get a galaxy flip 3 (the only other up to date small phone available) until I learned that they had increased the iphone 13 mini battery life. 9 hour screen on time versus 5 hour screen time made it an easy call to get the 13 mini instead. Where else are you going to find a small pocket friendly phone with modern capabilities with 9 hour screen on time and an optional very portable wireless magsafe battery for 18 or 27 hour screen on time? No where. And it also works well with the apple watch, which has a built in electronic compass. Android watches are hit and miss, usually some features work poorly if at all. And I'm not an Apple fanboy either, I have plenty of Android phones. Good job Apple. I ordered a back sticker to get rid of the Apple logo.

i get the same number of SOT, so i tested a average day user (no power user) just simple things like editing video + pictures / gaming/youtube/music etc and to my suprise i still had 50+ battery left when i came home. Take notice that when i mean average usage its not constant SOT but as a normal use, you would not sit on your phone for more than max 1 hour at a time anyways and then pause to work etc the battery test on youtube are to me extreme usage like gluing your face to the phone every second none stop which no average normal user would do in real life unless they had absolut nothing to do but not even then since they would either see friends or other things if not work. the testers on youtube seems to always forget to note that the battery tests are not normal average use but a full scale constant SOT battery test without standby time etc and it can decieve buyers from getting the phone since from their pov 4½ hours are not much with SOT. the details about standby time in between usage should also be considered in a average normal day usage, i guess some people would be sitting editing videos or pictures on their phone but personally i would do minimal editing and then contenue on pc when i get time at home. we as a consumer of smartphone tech forget that a smartphone is still a phone for calls & messages etc all the other things are just a exclusive plus for the consumer to use. people should not drown them self in the smartphone gadget and instead interract with the world in between the multimedia usage but thats how it is now since smartphones are basicly as powerfull as a computer today :)

What you didn't mentioned was the battery health of the 12 mini. Was it heavily used or is it still 100%?

While the test confirms that the 13 mini lasts longer as expected, the 7 hour SOT the 12 mini achieved while running those battery intensive tasks are nothing to scoff at and more than I expected tbh, especially considering the complaints about that phone's battery life from almost every reviewer! And while it lost to the 13 mini, it was only by one hour and 19 minutes, which in practical terms means that both phones will last a typical work day for most people and both will need a nightly charge, so I wouldn't pay a ton more for the 13 mini if a meaningfully better battery life than the 12 mini is your main priority.

Most of the time the brightness looks the same 0:29 But sometimes the 13 mini looks quite a bit dimmer, like at 3:55 Was the auto brightness turned on? Or the 13 is overheating?

*It won't change my mind and will still love my iphone 12 mini. I myself do not understand why they complain about the battery, whether they are heavy users or a gamer. Even I myself am fine with my battery. I used my 12 mini all day on 80% battery from morning to evening.* *And it lasts 10 hours of streaming and watching videos, the point is to enable low power mode.*

I recently got iphone 13 mini. I thought battery life was enough for my usage. Post purchase i realised im a bit of heavy user and the 13 mini battery was not sufficient for me. But i absolutely loved the size and the features for that size. Later I just watched some random RU-vid videos of tips n tricks on battery savings n fixed the same post which my battery drain is so much better. I charge it by 9am upto 95percent and end up the day with 30% battery

So waiting for the 13 mini is worth the wait since the battery life is better as expected..... Now time to get the money for it..
