This reminds me the period of Nokia 808 PureView phone which camera was so significant and excellent that I could crank out pictures and video that would have been impossible to imagine. Yes, I didn't even try to colour grade the video footage but the pictures were magnificent, even got me featured in a photography magazine.

Looking at this, and RAW photos from iPhone, makes me really sad that Apple doesn't allow to tone down the oversharpening that's ruining the images when shooting JPG/regular video. That's the key thing that makes the shots look overly digital. Heck, even DJI has given us the control these days (thanks, Philip!)

Love this! Reminds me of how I got into filming, when you showcased what the Canon 5D II/ III could do almost 11 - 12 years ago. And now new filmmakers will have that same feeling with the iPhone 15

Looks great! One thing though that I don’t like is those green lens flares, and that’s coming from someone who actually likes lens flares, just not on iPhones, these green dots really annoy me, looks cheap.

Super cool look. Thank you for sharing that you used Protake and ProRes LT. I'm getting ready to shoot in a kindergarten classroom over weeks, perhaps months. This helps. Of course I'll test, but I'm hoping that ProRes LT will help us get an appropriate light and cheerful look with beautiful rendering of faces...

Nice video. I’m shooting weekly for a client on an iPhone 14 pro max and it’s pretty surprising. Like the camera pen we always dream of. Wide angle and long lens are usefull to me but there is a margin to improve. Cinematic mode look fake when shooting lifestyle stuff like i do, maybe in controlled set. The worst is the close-up of human face that i don’t see in all iPhone video. Can’t put the phone at 10cm of people so missing the poetry of a 70-200mm.

Those bloom filters really help bring out the best in the image, a little too sharp, a little too clinical, a little too much background detail in the close ups, all solved with some bloom gold

It looks great, the only issue with phones these days really is with the DoF and with the constraints theyre under (sensor + lens size) it feels like a hurdle they'll never pass.

I have to disagree. Computational video will fix that. Cinematic mode is getting better and better. Combine that with log and there you go! Within 5 or 6 years I believe it will be exceptional. With the iPhone 15 when you take a normal photo it also captures depth field of it so you can choose to blur the background even though you weren’t in portrait mode. They will be able to do that in video before you know it.

The iPhone has shot HDR FOREVER 🙂 I hate the look as it’s so unnatural. This is so much better.

Not that often. There’s maybe 1 shot using it in their edit. The main camera and the 2x for most shots.

It did struggle in low light when it was night. I had to be selective in where I pointed. London is pretty bright at night generally though. The other two cameras are awful at night in log.
