I noticed on larger screen such as my 55 inch TV, 12 Pro Max looks way more natural as it has no oversharpening while the 15 Pro Max you actually notice the artifact around the edges due to oversharpening and overprocessing. Both are perfect on small devices tho
I definitely noticed the over sharpening on my monitor when I was putting the footage side by side. I didn’t show it, but it’s even more noticeable in photos.
I have a 12 Pro Max. Earlier this year I replaced the battery. The cost was very reasonable. It’s like having a new phone. And because I’ve always kept it in a case with a screen protector it looks like a new phone too. One thing I haven’t seen from reviewers is a comparison in time to charge. Curious what if any difference the USB 3.0 makes on the Pro.
I still use my 12 Pro Max daily. My battery health on it is at 86% and I had it since Day 1. I’ve never had to get my iPhone battery replaced, was it pricey?
@@ROAMitRALPHhow long would you say the battery lasts you with 85% health? And, do you use data or wifi or both? And do you play games? Sorry if it sounds like an intervention 😂 I’m looking to buy a 12 pro soon and I’m curious about what I’m getting.
I don’t blame you. I daily use both phones and it doesn’t matter which one I pull out of my pocket to use. I wonder if there’ll be any big changes when the 16 comes out. How’s your battery life on your 12?
Other than some contrast, color grading and lens flair, I don't really see a whole lot thats different between these two. This is both good and disappointing. Great for those who have older devices, knowing they still are going to get some of the greatest photos/videos around, but it's also bad that there isn't a great enough difference between these two to deserve the hype people are claiming of the 15 over the 12. I own 12 Pro, 14 Pro, 15 Pro Max. So I'll test myself and see what I come up with but overall, its nice that the lens flair is less and the contrast and color punch is more.
what about cinematic mode, 48mp sensor, 5x telephoto, action mode, photonic engine, raw photo, pro res video, log footage, picture custom styles & 7 lenses with all different focal lengths all of these which are present in 15pm and not in 12pm. how can it be disappointing or you just ignoring the facts
Yeah, the 12 was still pretty good compared to the 15. Not a big reason to upgrade unless you really want some manual control of the camera. Have you had a chance to test them out yourself yet? I’m curious about your thoughts.
I’m still currently using iPhone 12 Pro Max since March 2021, and I haven’t decided when I should upgrade to another iPhone but I am thinking about upgrading to iPhone 16 Pro Max but the only thing would stop me from upgrading to another iPhone is getting a truck for myself. So maybe it’s best for me to wait until next year’s iPhone 17 🤷🏼♂️🔥
In a nutshell (correct me if I'm wrong): - the 15's higher megapixel count may result in sharper footage (but not by much) - the 15 deals slightly better with highlights/glare. Built-in UV filter? Again, thank you for the great comparison.
I have the 12 pro and looking to upgrade to 15 pro not the max phones , I don’t change my iPhones evry new model I usually skip a few then upgrade, now is the time to move to the 15 for me, great video , only criticism is there wasn’t enough dog content in it 😄so nice your dog 👍🏼
After using my friend’s Pro (not Max) I’m thinking I want to switch on my next upgrade. I prefer the size of them much more. From the rumors of the 16, I might try to hold off one more year before I upgrade my 12 (mainly because I’m already using the 15 and it doesn’t seem like a big change). And I agree, I need to add my dog more to my videos 🐕😆
I only upgraded because my old phone broke (Samsung Note 10). I have 2 lines and I’m actually not someone who upgrades often, so I figured I might as well take advantage and make a video lol.
They’re the same picture… Great comparison video, though! Thank you. P.s. the addition of night mode to the comparison would’ve made this video perfect.
Thanks! Yeah I realized I should have added a night test to this after reading the comments 😅. I ended up making a dedicated night test video comparison 😂
2:05 is it just me or.. why does 48 mm on iPhone 15 Pro Max look better than 65 mm on iPhone 12 Pro Max, even though 65 mm is optical and 48 mm on the 15 is just literally cropping in from the 48 MP sensor? The HDR effect and color reproduction are so much better on the 15. But one thing though, oversharpened is a real thing. And I wish Apple got rid of it.
Contrast is to high on 15 also the yellows. Skintone don't often look to good sadly. Pixel 8, when it got it right it's looking like a dslr in terms of colours and whitebalance/colur accuracy.
Oh I miss Android cameras. I used to use Samsungs until I switched everything to iPhone (it was easier for my workflow since I edit with Final Cut Pro). I preferred the look out of the Samsung than the iPhone. I never used a Pixel, but from the reviews I’ve seen from MKBHD and the other tech guys, it definitely has a great camera too.
There is something about the 12 that makes it feel more natural. I’m assuming it’s all that HDR computing the 15 does. I definitely understand what you’re saying though
It is pretty same in camera but is the video quality and if you are take video and want other features like what they on 15 go in and battery 🔋 but if you have 13 or 14 it just about i Don know
The difference is only when you turn on Prores Log video and bring in cinematic color grading. If you just shoot automatically, there's no difference, especially in simple lighting conditions, no low light.
Yeah, there’s nothing wrong with the 12 Pro Max. And not really worth the upgrade just for the camera. How’s your battery doing on the 12 Pro Max btw? I’ve had mine since Day 1 and currently sitting at 86%. I think it’s doing pretty good for a 3yr old phone
I would not have upgraded my 12 pro max and sold it to my grown up daughter for a for her very fair price had I only needed if for out of camera recording in good lighting. I bought my 15 pro max because the USB C port made the use of ProRes viable and because of the added log feature
The “pro” camera features of the 15 Pro Max are amazing. Unless I’m casually taking photos/videos, I’ve been using the Blackmagic app for videos and the Moment app for photos.
this video was great for my decision, I have had my Iphone 15 stolen a while ago, and I was not sure if I was willing to reinvest in the same phone, I was thinking about the 12 pro, as it is cheapier, and with this video I felt the camera from the 12 pro delivers a better image quality, I know it is not for real, as the 15 is more tecnologic and stuff, but the 12 looks really beautiful, I just worry about the performance because I am a content creator as well, so I record, edit videos a lot, and I am about to go to work on cruisechips, and I intend to show my day by day, sooo, I really need a high performance phone, I hope de 12 is good enough
In other YT comparisons 11-15 Pro (not max) especially the 13 made a surprisingly great impression, sometimes better than 14,15. Remembering 12PM as the only 12 already having the much bigger sensor + sensor shift later put in 13 the good results here make sense for 12PM too. And because of its smaller sensor compared to 14, 15 it is able to keep more parts in focus optically - contrary to the current bokee hype. HDR contrast on 15PM is to much., not realistic anymore. The truth maybe right in the middle of both. Big disadvantage of 12PM is lense flair. So not bad for 3 generation behind.
I did notice HDR is a little over done on the 15. It had a little bit of that lens flare too, but definitely not as bad as the 12. But yeah, for being 3 generations behind, it wasn’t a huge difference between the two.
Hi Ralph, do iphones crop in when shooting video? The video stabilization of my Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus comes with a crop factor of 1.3, but as far as I know the newer iPhones with sensor shift stabilization don't crop in and so a 24mm will stay a 24mm, regardless of wether taking photos or shooting videos in standard mode (action mode is another story). It would be nice if you could confirm this.
I used to be a Note 10 user so I know exactly what you’re talking about. It only crops in when you’re using the active mode, otherwise to my knowledge it doesn’t crop in.
@@ROAMitRALPH Yes I'm considering it. As for the ultra wide lens I'm pretty good with the 1.3 crop on the 13mm ultra wide, it looks similar to the focal lenght of the lInear mode on a Gopro. However, the ultra wide lense can't focus and vlogging with a 24mm+30% crop is just too narrow, so I'm considering getting either an iphone 13 or iphone 14 , which then gives me more flexibility and even better image quality. Now that the new GoPro and iphone series comes out, it's difficult to make a decision. Haha Btw, the video style and image I'm currently targeting for is to be seen on the "HP walking tours" with my favourite video being "Kyoto Japan 4K Walking Tour....." The image is just so beautiful
@@FloriTravels oh nice! I actually put walking tours in the background when I’m editing especially if I’m about to travel somewhere. What’s funny is that I’ve actually seen some of your videos (on your Flori Travels channel) when I was traveling through Thailand a few years ago. But yeah, vlogging with a 24mm is probably the max possible to vlog with and it has to be without a crop. You actually got a sub from me, I look forward to more of your stuff 🍻
Now I noticed The 15pro max portrays green 🟩 better and provides sharper and HDR effect on black colors whilst the 12 pro max gives blue color more detail
You’re not the only one that still use iPhone 12 Pro Max in 2024 😂, though I’m planning to upgrade iPhone 16 PM or wait until next year‘s iPhone 17 🤷🏼♂️
It’s hard to find a difference, especially if the footage isn’t side by side. I should have done a blind test to see if people could even tell if it was either the 12 or 15.
Oh yeah, I didn’t even think about that. That’s definitely a huge difference too. And you can even do macro in video (I can’t do macro on my Sony ZV1 in video, only in stills)
It seems that in situations with strong direct light, the iPhone 12 pro max is glared and at night this phenomenon is even more obvious and very annoying. ! thank u
I noticed that, especially in the direct light. It’s not as bad in the wide angle lens compared to the normal and tele, but it’s definitely annoying and distracting.
@@ROAMitRALPH and thats usually what the upgrades are on iphones, at least the major upgrade. A camera that the videos look the same in social media because all the platforms downgrade the quality.
Разница только в цене 🤣 Но за такое качество и труд людей что создают всякие фишки придумывают и совершенствуют устройства всё лучше и лучше то оно стоит своих денег 😍
I love how it looks, and that’s without any editing. Working with edited LOG footage is even more stunning. I’ll work on getting a comparison video up with edited LOG vs standard video
The 15 PM is far superior to the 12pm. I do get that if you already own one then yes I would be proud of it as well, but once you actually buy the 15pm the overall experience is much better. Battery life is insane
Nice! I still use my 12 Pro Max daily. I don’t see myself updating it until they completely redesign the iPhone, or if my phone dies, whichever comes first lol
Thanks for the idea, I actually just made a low light/night video to compare. You were definitely right 🤯 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-yyg7G0pvSAk.htmlsi=vgh2zy3cGW_w0-9M
