Apple may be developing an updated version of the low-cost iPhone SE, with the device slated to include some major changes to bring it in line with the flagship iPhone lineup, but information about the ‌iPhone SE‌ 4 is mixed and it is unclear if it will come out at all.
Apple is targeting a sub-$500 starting price for its upcoming fourth-generation iPhone SE model despite a raft of rumored upgrades coming to the more affordable device.

This would be the best. Two Cameras, Action Button, USB C , newer processor. If the offer Dynamic Island instead of Notch would be great, but that I can not imagine.

Seems likely to me. The whole deal with the SE is that they leverage the manufacturing capacity for discontinued models. The 1st gen SE was based on the iPhone 5S, then the 2nd and 3rd gen SEs were based on the iPhone 8. So it just makes sense that the next SE would have the same chassis as a 12/13 Mini. The Minis were discontinued almost a year ago so I would expect a new SE pretty soon.

I got a 2020 SE in 2021 and I've been loving it. I hate having a large phone. I'm glad Apple is going to keep the SE alive longer!

The SE 2020 is still large. The last phone sized phone Apple released is the SE1 released in 2016.

I upgraded from 12 Mini to 15 Pro Max and it’s nice to watch stuff on. But I’m on this more than my iPad Mini now.

@@Thumpr110 tbh… I’m not certain because I mostly use my iPad Pro. So, I can’t give you a definitive answer. But, I’m sure there are RU-vid videos out there that compare battery life to other iPhones.

I went from an iPhoneSE to iPhoneSE2, to an older iPhone 13 Mini. I don't want a 'massive' phone. The form factor of the 13 mini is perfect. I just want that design with newer specs. It's time for the SE to not call back to the iPhone 8 design; instead the SE v4 should be, basically, an iPhone 16 mini under the SE branding.

im still using the 2nd gen, too! And even on current iOS, it still runs great (battery not so much, but the home button/sensor and size make up for it).

the SEs were more about using previous designs to save costs and market it as a cheaper phone. it just so happened that the older SEs were based on smaller designs

I love the SE and especially Touch ID. It makes it so easy to use Apple Pay. I wish they would put Touch ID in the side button. How does Face ID work with Apple Pay??

Of course, the iPhone SE 4 is not available yet and we don't _know_ what its features will be, but based on speculative rumors and leaks, I suggest: The 15 will have the second camera: an ultra-wide sensor. The SE 4 may use a notch design, rather than the floating dynamic island design for housing the front panel sensor cluster. The SE 4 may have half the storage capacity, stopping at 256GB instead of 512GB, and starting at 64GB instead of 128GB.

I am probably an outlier… I work from home - rarely on my iPhone longer than 10 minutes of surfing or watching video but it is with me always. I currently have an iPhone 12 Mini as I like the smaller size. I have been waiting to get a new iPhone hoping that there will be a screen size smaller than the 6.1 inch. I might be SOL. When home I am on my 11 inch M2 iPad and I will take that with me if I have a longer wait for appointments. My iPhon ebattery is down to 82% peak charge and dropping each week. I would prefer not to dive in and get a 15 when something else is right around the corner. I will make an appointment with Apple this week for a new battery to limp me along further.

Oled requires a higher resolution to look as sharp as lcd because there are less subpixels. The screen won’t look any sharper.

I also would preder smaller phones, the biggest issue tho is the battery life of the small phones. And thats the reason I didnt buy a mini yet, also the reason why other people keep their hands off of them and ultimately the reason why manufacturers dont build them so small since they dont sell. We need better batteries for smaller phones...

Well I bought an SE 3 because of two reasons, the price considering how insane the currency exchange rate is between USD to my local currency which makes spending few thousand dollars just for a phone not worth it, and also the performance. If the rumours would to be true, I to be honest would very much welcome it. The larger phone, larger battery, Face ID, and whatever else larger phone gives. Maybe even the OLED screen too despite me being a VoiceOver user. Personally don't mind Touch ID and home button going away, have been looking so much forward to Face ID for quite some time anyway. But the processor, I doubt it's the A16 Bionic. I'm thinking, if the A18 would to have two versions, like A18 for iPhone 16 and 16 plus, and A18 Pro for the Pro and Pro Max, that iPhone SE 4 would likely get that regular chip, just like first SE getting the same A9 as the 6S, SE 2 with the same A13 Bionic as the 11s, and the current SE, which I'm using, with the same A15 Bionic as the 13s. And I'm predicting this based on the past record we had which saw the SE models released being powered by the same, albeit six months old chips that powered the current flagship models that time.

I have owned 3 SE's all older versions and currently have a 13mini. I love a smaller phone as I have a MacBook Pro 13" as my only computer and travel companion and I dont want a 6" screen or bigger. I am 70 and not interested in gaming, etc. Just sharing my point of view.

SIZE Matters. And not the way most think. Any possibility Apple will offer a smaller SE size iPhone? I'm a woman who wants it to fit in my hand and pockets. Please advise. My SE Phone is dying, I can get a new iPhone with a 25% greater points now via my credit card. through 7/31 Which is best to get, now? with the hopes of upgrading later to a smaller phone, for trade in value and ease of use? I would get this because where I live income is tight. However, ideally I'd need financing on that, but there is no official Apple here, even though we're in the EU. So I'd have to save up. Especially since my wife and I both want to switch to iphone, so that double the expense. If they would offer €20 a month finance per phone for 2 years, we would do that. And there are MILLIONS more here in Europe alone, who would too....

2025 is a yr too late, now if it came out this fall and was actually in stock, a definite contender as I am not impressed at all with the current AI perks that are being offered - the 2 main ones of course being the pic changes and circle/search, neither of which I would use much at all.

I would buy some (2-3) older iPhone SE 2022 without FaceID (as fallback devices) - FaceID: I never use it & trust it. Reasons to own an iPhone: Music-Management, Apple-Repairability. Negative: Pegasus isn't fixed, overpriced (selling phones with 128 GB Flash-Memory and with 60 Hz display for a 1,000 USD - what else to say about it).

The smaller size and more traditional look of iPhones 6-8 were advantage. If they will ditch this formfactor with new SE, they will make many users annoyed. This switch along with more and more OS issues will probably make me switch from iPhone's great but terrible ecosystem. They had amazing thing going on with the old iPhones: reliability and simplicity. Now they are pushing more and more useless features that are breaking the functionality so the initial charm is gone for me.

I know with my own iPhone 14 Pro Max, I observe it stutter or slow fairly often since launch, and without perceptible heated thermals. I feel I'd like performance to be at a higher consistency of good/snappy/fast.

I hate to be that guy since I agree with you that Apple should make a small iPhone but the SEs have always been iPhones based on a previous generation to cut costs rather than size. SE1: iPhone 5s with 6s hardware SE2: iPhone 8 chassis with iPhone 11 hardware SE3: iPhone 8 chassis with iPhone 13 hardware Based on that pattern I think Dan’s predictions are correct. If I was running Apple, however, I would keep the current iPhone 8 chassis or use the iPhone 13 Mini chassis.

the SEs purpose was to reuse old parts from the parts bin & repackage it as a newer product slapping the latest chip & adding new features to make a new but cheap product it was just a coincidence that all 3 previous SEs were smaller because their bodies were taken from small phones previously. the reason why they marketed it as a smaller phone is because it was easier to market it as smaller. but it’s true purpose was to repackage old parts to sell a cheaper phone w the latest (or 2nd latest) chip giving it long software support but now the home button is outdated in 2024 so the next logical step is to have an SE based on the face id iPhone which in this case is the 13/14 that’s leaked rn
