Before you decide to buy or are quick to judge...DO WHAT I DID: I went to the Apple store and put all three phones (XR, XS, XS Max) together and ran about 6 videos simultaneously. Brightness turned all the way up and True Tone turned off on all 3 devices. The sales associate at the apple store even helped me with this. Honestly...they all looked the same to the naked eye. Most ppl if any wouldn’t even notice the difference. I was surprised how the XR did and in some aspects I thought it did better than the XS Max on certain scenes. The XS and XS Max did look better on the home screen. If you care about build quality, no bezel, 3D Touch and want to brag about having the better phone then buy the XS or XS Max. Build quality doesn’t necessarily matter to me cause I’ll be using a case. The bezel I’ve stopped noticing was even there. To me the size of the XR is perfect. And the battery life is awesome. That’s why I chose the XR.
Tried out the Xr for a couple weeks and the battery life was absolutely fantastic, but I had to return it because it was too wide and too heavy. The display size is closer to the XS but the width of the phone is much closer to the XS Max, which made it a pain to use one handed. If anyone out there is still struggling to decide between the two, ask yourself how important a phone's size and weight is to you.
myNEONCITY I agree completely had a plus size phone couldn’t stand the size. Now I have the xs and I love the size to me it’s the perfect size. I didn’t want the xr because the fact it was a bigger phone.
I have small hands so the Xs appeals to me, I handled the xr at the store and it just seemed so heavy. My problem is deciding what color to get between the silver and space gray.
Lmao you must be blind... I'm not saying the difference in resolution because at a proper distance you don't see the difference but the contrast of the oled is huge
For me, the 3d touch, and display are not worth the extra $250 starting. I prefer battery life over display any day. Switching from my S9 to the iPhone XR real soon 😁
Christopher Niceley it’s not just 3D Touch. You’re getting a higher resolution/ppi display. You’re getting 4gb of ram vs 3gb of ram. Dual lenses. Ip68 vs ip67. Stainless steel band vs aluminum band. Thinner bezels. Having said that, the XR is a great phone but I chose the XS Max
I was playing around with the XR I didn't see any differences because it has different colors and a LCD screen big deal I'll choose this over the premium iPhones been there and done that I haven't seen anything that would be a deal breaker for the iPhone XR
Thanks so much for a concise and detailed review on the differences! I'm finally upgrading my iphone 7 plus but couldn't justify paying the price for the latest version but also had my reservations for the XR version. This video definitely cleared things up for me and my decision to go with the XR is totally worth saving the money without sacrificing too much based on my personal preference and usage of the iphone overall.
I choose the xs because of the gold color that matches the gold stainless steel watch perfectly! The xr is a better value, but wished they made a gold color option.
I’m so proud to say, I’m 16 with a good enough job. Been working for 3 weeks and I just bought myself the xr in red. No money was received from my parents. (I bought my ex-girlfriend on Months algo, I feel dumb :( oh well) Thanks for the likes, means a lot :))
Hey! I’m 18, am working in a pretty damn good job myself. I bought myself an XR in red on Tuesday! I didn’t receive any money, whatsoever from my parents. Haha...what a coincidence.
I am watching this with my XS on September 2021 after iPhone 13 released. I don’t regret buying iPhone XS 3 years ago. I can still use this phone for another 2 years.
I bought the XR and love it. Battery life is f’n awesome! Lasts me at least a day and a half before having to charge again. I like the size of the XR too, I really don’t have any complaints about the display either: I think it looks great. Thought I’d miss the 3D Touch but I really don’t, I like the haptic touch
I consider myself as being a tech guy and I have no problem with my XR. I know android phones offer better value, however privacy means more to me than any amount of money.
How are the texts on 3rd party apps? Is it still fuzzy or blurry? Planning to buy one for myself this christmas but i saw it side by side w/ the 8plus and it looked ok. Not great. Felt llike being ripped of by apple. And what if they release a 1080p xr next year im gonna be bummed lol
Android phones don't offer better value. You pay for what you get. They cost about the same for similar quality. I have a OnePlus and it definitely feels like a budget phone compared to iPhones. The newer Oneplus phones may seem improved upon previous versions, but that is because the price keeps going up and their cameras are still crap.
Some things he didn't mention. The 3D-touch feature has been in every iPhone after the 6s aside from the iPhone SE. This is a pressure sensitive feature that is replaced by what Apple is calling Haptic touch. Haptic touch is just a fancy word for long pressing where you would use 3D-touch but it doesn't have all of the same uses. The "zoom lense", that the iPhone XR is lacking, is the telephoto lens. A telephoto lense is used for long distance photos and portrait photos. It's true that it doesn't make much of a difference getting rid of it, but all of the new phones coming out (even rumored for the next iPhone) has 3 or at least 2 lenses.
Shane Monaghan not really lol 😂 the screen is miles ahead on the Xs I’ve had the XR for 8 months before I gave it to my mom and I’ve noticed almost immediately that the screen is more vibrant and the phone is a lot more snappier all around.
@@DIESTAR2010 XR has longer batter and better color accuracy but XS has oled display and 3d touch besides that its basically the same. I would prefer the LCD though
Switched from S8 to XR white 256gb, love the buttery smoothness and better optimised apps~ a bit draw back from the screen but the screen is actually quite good on XR and less strain on my eyes compared to S8
Michael Z well currently apple does not have this but if you invert color some apps like setting and others are completely black with white text. With oled displays when there isn’t a pixel needing to be used it’s essentially turned off. Not only would this save battery but looks sleek. Problem is that apple has not made this a feature. But if you were to jail break your iPhone it is possible and looks pretty cool. If you have an Xs go to setting and get the default black wallpaper. Now compare that to and led screen and you’ll see that the led screen has a back light while oled has no pixels lit up.
@@joyetumni568 nope they don't. you eyes can't catch the flickers like shown in the video. But it affects eyes noticeably if the brightness is too low which is a great con of oled at least for me
Great video Aaron. Solid comparisons without making one sound bad. You advocate well for both products and let the viewer decide what’s important to them.
Finally put my 5SE in the dresser drawer and got the XR. So far, I'm loving it. Screen is solid and looks great in my opinion. Very happy with my purchase.
Basically if you want to spend MORE money on a phone that has unnecessary features go with the Xs lol. More battery life is what sold it for me. #Xr gang.
The screen is what you look at so it should make you decide on what to buy. 1080p should be the basic bottom line for a display not 720p. Plus no 3D Touch you might as well go back to iPhone X or 8. Why would you upgrade to go backwards. And yes I have the iPhone X’s max. Upgraded from the 7.
I have an XS, and have for three years now. My brother has an XR. Honestly, in 2022, both phones work pretty much the same. The only thing that I have noticed that is different is the battery life, which it is actually better on my XS but that is after three years of use and both have gotten shorter over time. The other thing is the size difference, which is really down to personal preference. I enjoyed this review, very informative with no useless information.
@@not_asha.9881 They are very similar. Apart from camera, screen size and battery life there is really little difference when using them. I’d probably recommend the XR, just because it is easier and cheaper to get. It’s probably not worth spending more on the XS, in 2022.
@@johnsherly2689 I’d say it’s because my brother would use his phone more than me, and they both have worn down over the years. I presume that when they were both new, it was better on the XR.
im choosing between both of these 2, im more sided to the Xs but im so afraid of the battery, and like you said i dont know if its worth it to expend on the Xs in 2022, i really im in to the 12 pro, but for now i choosing between Xs and xr
Loved the video!! simple and straight to the point. not a tech person but i understood and knew which one would fit me better! thank you for making this.
I’m still rocking my X. This has been the first year where I wasn’t sold on upgrading my device. But if I had to choose I would go with the XS over the XR.
Nice comparison video. My OG Pixel is getting long in the tooth and I love what they've done with iOS 12.1 (Especially on my iPad)..I think the XR is in my future
Thank you for the fantastic video! You are a very clear and articulate speaker and touched on every point I was wondering about. Keep up the good work!
I’ve been using apple since the iPhone 4 and honestly the xr is overall the best yet. I’ve been using it for a month now. I’ll admit coming from the 6 I had to get use to the size but when comparing it to the x, xs and the 6 it’s perfect size. Apple definitely jump ahead when it comes to the xr size. In a year it’s going g to be considered small.
after 4 years... I changed my 6 to XR. It is completely different and face detection makes my day I always opened the telephone with my thumb in my pocket wasting the battery. Loved my 6 but it was the time for a change. XR for me.
Upgraded from an iPhone 6. Tested my NEW black XR. 100% battery at 6:00pm on Saturday. Didn’t charge (20% battery left) until 9:00pm the next day! This phone is a tank!!!
My mother just converted from android to a yellow iPhone XR 128Gb model and she’s in love with it! I’m still using a 7 and I plan on giving it to my dad in favor of a XS due to the smaller dimensions that I’m a fan of
@@chrismcrae6026 so small that I can easily use it with one hand, easily put it in my pocket, and easily use its headphone jack ;). Didn't have to pay an arm and a leg for it either ;D
You can’t really spec the screen on this. In terms of how good the display is. 1080p and 720p. Who cares it’s all filmed in 4k now? The screens to small to actually impact resolution a whole lot. PPI normally would but Apples working with some different technology here. Technically speaking it’s 828P. And a 1080p video will still play you’ll just be seeing the phones native resolution. Their is a reason why you don’t see too many 32” 4K TVs as the differences would be too difficult to see. Looking close you may be able to see some things but honestly I wouldn’t read too much into the numbers. Plenty of people buy 128gb phones and never use more than 20% of the space. Don’t do that. Complete waste of money if you don’t use space and swap the phone in a year or two. Buy what matters to you but don’t read to far into the numbers when it comes to the screen. Short story you’ll have to be looking really close to see a difference and a 1080p video will still look better than 720p since the screen is actually 828p your phone will automatically down scale it. Same with a TV on 50” to see the difference between 4K and 1080P you’d have to be sitting about 3-4 feet away or closer. Too truly see it. The bigger the screen the more PPI and Resolution matters and the farther away you can sit to see the difference. 720p-1080p (828p) on 6.1 inches lol. You’ll have to glue it to your nose. Granted the differences will be seen but not like you would think. This LCD is definitely not the same. PPI it is the same as a 4S but the XR is a Liquid LCD so it’s going to look a lot better. This is one of those things that shouldn’t be spec read. Test them out. But don’t look to deep into the specs in terms of the screen. Their are reasons to buy and XS and XS Max but don’t let that be your sole reason. It’s a math game but the XR definitely dosent have a bad screen. Not 1080 but the average person won’t see it anyways.
I want to know, are all iphones quality the same even thought some are from USA and others from UK and China?. Here in my country they ounly trust from USA. Your comment pls.
Standby the XS Max will outlast them, but after heavy and constant usage the XR actually outperforms the XS Max, by about an hour or so IIRC. I saw that on one of the many reviews I watched in trying to decide between them myself. I recently bought a XR for the battery life and price difference (I can afford a XS Max I just didn't see the value for money) as I feel that the things that you compromise in, when buying a XR is largely unimpactful. I can't tell the difference between the displays when side by side in the Apple store, except the bezels, and the camera isn't something that will get too much technical zoom use from me, "good enough" is good enough for me - though they both have the same cameras front and back, minus the special zoom thingy on the XS varieties.
not much and meanwhile all you see looks like crap on the xr. i'll take the high-end oled, high ppi, hdr supported display any day. seriously, sub 1080p on 6.1 inch using dated lcd is really bad.
Bought XR black, its great. Love it. Great battery life, good camera, display is also very good, no issues (was confused initially with many youtubers negative review on display).
Ive had iphone 6s, 7plus, iphone x and iphone xs max. I now have the xr and the xr is the best device ive had from iphone. Dont listen to all the negative reviews about the display as ive had the xs max and you can tell a difference unless you hold the phone 1 cm away from your eyes. The bezels are thicker but you dont even notice them after a few minutes. The xr and xs have the same a12 chip and as the xr is lower res the battrey will last 2 days easily were the max lasts 1 day before charging. The only downside is the xr doesnt have 3d touch but this is a very small sacrifice for the better battrey life. I give the phone a 9.5/10 and its half the price of the max
Well it depends what you are going for tbh. The XR have better battery life and a decent camera. I don’t really need the display cause I could just watch stuff in my laptop but I do use my phone a lot for social media and play games and it takes a lot of battery. So battery is a win. I don’t really take much pictures so I don’t really care about the camera. The Xs have a good display (you can barely see the difference of the display between the 2) and a good camera. If you like to take pictures and use your phone for everything the Xs is for you.
Hey Aaron, I’ve been noticing on my Xr that apps in the background reload when I open them again and not after too long. RU-vid and Deezer for example. I wonder if that’s because of RAM and whether you notice that difference between the Xr and the Xs, or is it an iOS thing? Thanks. 👋
Coming from Galaxy S8. Honestly, The display specs doesn't bother me. Damn this thing is Beast, dual sim, battery life and camera is amazing too. Never regret to get this one, the black one is very beautiful 👍
Thankyou just ckeared out my mind what i supposed to get . I go for the XR i think its perfectly fine its like in the middle of xs and xs max. Thankyou for the detailed difference between
