Lesghinka @ 13:43 builds from full-on insanity at 17:10 to total exhausted "last gasp" collapse at 18:10. Spectacular ...and apt illustration shown.

This Georgian March is even better than the more well-known Procession of the Sardar. My favourite!

What a fantastic and moving music! With Boronin, Glazunov and Ippolitov-Ivanov I definitely got stuck in Russian contemporary classical music. What a pleasure!

I suppose you meant "Borodin" , but you didn't quite make it!

There is a striking similarity between the main theme of this suite and the opening chord progression of Tchaikovsky's Manfred Symphony. It was almost seen as a compliment when another Russian composer borrowed sketches from one of his compatriots. There was never any quarrels about copyright. It's a known fact that Balakirev, ( considered the father of the Russian Romantic Movement and leader of the ' big 5 ' , regularly donated musical phrases to both Tchaikovsky and Rimsky-Korsakov.

+peter92305 --Glazunov did a treatment of the next-to-last segment, the wild dance. Have to look in my stash for it but everyone is asleep right now.

I see a number of people asking why he is not better known. I think one of the reasons is that unlike the great 19th century composers so many of us think of when we think "Great Russian composers", he survived into the Soviet era, even winning awards from the State. But winning awards from the Soviet State made you automatically suspect in the West. Especially during the 30s, when the great purges started. I am sure it did not help that he wrote "Voroshilov's March", either:(

+SpectatorAlius Aside from this, the Soviet era produced some of the finest composers of the 20th century. It's a shame that the ones who more or less got along with the authorities are underappreciated in the West (as if every good composer in history was a political dissident!). Seems like an inane reason to keep an artist under the radar. Similarly, Soviet ballet dancers who defected are much better acclaimed in the West than the ones who stayed (in my opinion there were much better dancers who stayed).

+nekopls : Check out Rodion Shchedrin and Gyorgy Sviridov! We have to jettison the ideological components and see through to honor the creators under that thumb who most sneakily and thankfully concocted AMAZING content!

If you like this try his excellent symphony. Steeped in the traditions of Borodin and the other Russian greats.

"black licorice wrotewait wtf are you talking about, insanity exhaustion collapse etc, its just tones"So sad. I suppose you'd also say "The Swing" by Jean-Honoré Fragonard, c.1767 is just colored paint. What an unimaginative, drab world without affect you choose to live in.

Now, who do you think this "Caucasion Queen" is? This painting of this very important woman. I talk about spirits who are very unknown and very misunderstood in our world, but I will have you knowing that Katikina is the most ancient and powerful queen that has ever existed anywhere in the universe. She is very much a woman as well and very much a spirit and dangerous and upset by the circumstances and conditions on the earth. The earth and the humans are not alone in this large universe. The earth has become important because of circumstances occurring with the spirits in their world and the humans existing in the world if the fact that other forms of spirits managed to break into human consciousness and thought inside of mankind in order to steal them and become their gods, when in fact there exist other large bodies of spirits of a different kind from elsewhere who now have a very large interest in the earth and humans, that being a queen named Katikina of the South, an area known as the south. I have brought her and her billions of spirits to the earth to become queen over the earth and spirits and humans to take over matters in regards to overseeing the recovery of mankind upon the earth after such terrible treatment by the spirits of the sea who have caused such problem and trouble in the humans. These new spirits are of a superior nature and power, much more highly intelligent and far more ancient and have been assigned the task of reclaiming organization over the humans in order to bring justice and proper management over the affairs of mankind and woman kind upon the earth. That is Queen Katikina whose name has been in the earth for thousands of years throughout the Caucasus and up into Central Asia throughout Russia. Katia, Katya, Katerina, Ekaterina, Kathryn, Catherine the Great, and many other versions of the name. Other lands and continents as well her name is known in song. LLXIIX77
