Iqbal, Falsafa aur Science | A Lecture by Dr. Pervez Hoodbhoy | Discussion | (Part I) 

Dr Hoodhboy is a very well meaning person and I have massive respect for him . He is right that Iqbal is not a philosopher , but Iqbal never claimed to be either . Dr Sbs knowedge of Iqbal is however very superficial . Iqbal is certainly a human only and certainly not beyond errors but to accuse him of being against scientific inquiry only displays lack of acquaintance with Iqbal . Iqbal on the contrary was very much for attaining knowledge , including scientific knowledge . He did not hate the West either . His reconstruction book is neither a book on philosophy nor science , but it's purpose is written by Iqbal himself in the preface . Iqbal ends the preface with humility in line of spirit of inquiry and open ness of mind . Yes it is true that many of his views changed over time but so it is with everyone. I feel Dr sb in a haste or due to pre conceived notions , did not really do justice to Iqbal . Iqbal most definitely would have many errors , but what Dt sb has against him don't seem to be one of those

Dear Dr. Hoodbhoy I too have a huge respect for you and often watch your lectures. You are absolutely right about our weakness to worship heroes blindly and passionately. Allama Dr. Iqbal, surely did change his thought process with the passage of time. His work is and must remain open to intellectual scrutiny and indeed fit for critical study. However, Dr. Iqbal has influenced millions of people of all ages and backgrounds and will continue to do so.

It is the sign of a mature intellect to entertain a thought without accepting it.

Perviaz Hoodboy is 100 % right .Those who are living in the past will never accept the explanation of Dr.Pervaiz Hoodboy .They think that whatever they think is all true and there is no other reality outside or in contrary to their thinking .Iqbal was only a local level poet inspired by religious thought nothing more than that .The great thinkers and writers talk about for the good of the mankind ,they never talk in a narrow domain of a religious philosophy

It true that in early Allama Iqbal liked philosophy but soon he realized that its speed is too slow to grasp each and every fact of life, as philosophy doesn't accept solution (event though looks valid) unless it finds its source and chain of actions which yielded it. Due to this Iqbal shifted himself from Aql to Dil (love) because love abruptly goes result to the result to analyze it.

Sir the concept of infinite series is that in remote sensing we take analysis through pic from outside of earth in space in single picture not vedio if light can stop then we watch all dimension quickly like in remote sensing pic analysis is reasonable then vedio like Michelson speed of light experiment

What a rational and logical lecture.. Unless Pervaidhoodbhoy's thoughts are cultivated in our universities, we can not move forward

Philosophy is not a technology which measure the technical angel of the scenario philosophy is living things in all knowledge and for the realistic philosophy you have to add your self in the tree to draw a philosophy about tree

اقبال نے فلسفے کو نئی جہت بخشی ہے فلسفے کے زیرِ بحث بہت سے سوالات کو اقبال نے نئے معنی دئیے ہیں کیونکہ وہ اسرارِ حقیقت سے واقف تھے۔

Before blindly prejudging Dr Hoodbhoy as a biased, secular, non-muslim, etc. Just try to objectively think about what he has said and whether is there any truth in what he is saying?

Sorry to say Dr Parvez sir Modi ji , our dearest pm , does not talk foolish things about science as you mentioned. Yes ! during vedic times India contributed a lot to science like in surgery(by sushrita) , astronomy, mathematics, Aurveda etc etc India before islamic invasions had five world class universities ,which you know, these invaders destroyed otherwise you would had more proof in hand to appreciate achievements of vedic time.

As per Prof. Hoodbhoy, India could advanced a lot in the field of Science. Why? What I think Pakistan is too much concerned about India. I sometime read Dawn newspaper , in that newspaper I notice that your paper covers a lot of news about India, though negative. But in India we really do not care what Pakistan is doing every day. So forget about animosity , it is only a tool to divert ordinary people to deviate from main problems. You had Prof.Salam, you have Prof. Hoodbhoy , so take their wisdom to develop your country.
