I want to pair this with my pedalboard + jc120, Im not going ampless but I think the super clean jc amp will be a good combo with this

Sounds like a good combo! There's a JC cab in the pedal so you can either do some sort of stereo/dual mono setup or you can mix your JC's cab with something completely different to create cool new sounds.

Do I need a pre-amp to use with this unit? doesn't it have a basic preamp built in just for signal leveling?

Hey... Very helpful Video. I have a doubt though! Let's say I want to hook this to a ZOOM G3XN (use the preamp) and mute the cab sim there. Will it be okay to use the built-in Modulation effects like Delay and Reverb after the preamp? Will it function as a generic setup of putting effects in between the preamp and power amp? Any reply would be very helpful...

How would you use the Solid Studio? Right at the end of the pedalboard? In the loop of the amp? Or would you use the "advanced" method and run it after the power stage of your amp?

If I would like to go Ampless and I have this Nux Studio Would I still Needed a Preamp pedal or not? I'm a noob with IR's and Amp simulator pedals! Need Help!

With this being a power amp and can Sim, you could easily use this as a standalone pedal but would be much better with a preamp pedal, in saying that all you would need is an overdrive pedal or distortion etc... That would work perfectly

Thanks for demoing amp > SS > cab. Any idea what sort of power it can handle without clipping? Would it take a fairly cranked 20w head?

The Solid Studio doesn't handle the amp's power (it is passed through to the cab) I don't think there are any limitations on how much amp watts it can handle. I think you can even use it with some bass amps and those are most likely over 100 watts every time. TL;DR: Yes it should work with your amp just fine!

@@CatPickStudios cheers yeah I was more wondering about how much "headroom" without clipping when placed between a loud amp and speaker, or if it has enough make up gain for lower watt amps. I've seen the AMT pedal can be placed between amp and speaker as well but it has adjustable attenuation levels (though it needs an awkward y speaker cable).

Excellent review but I'm confused - can I simply put the guitar into the NUX and go straight out from the NUX into input of an amp?

The idea of this pedal is either to not have amp at all (guitar-pedalboard-Solid Studio-audio interface) or to put it into your amp's effects loop. From there you can send the cab simulated signal to your audio interface or front of house but still listen to your amp in the room as well. Going from Solid Studio into your amp input will most likely result in a bad sound. Hope this helps.

Great video. Can the Solid studio be used as follow: guitar -> Nux SS -> input of solid state amp (class A, clean settings)? Thinking of getting the Nux SS and the Nux duotime and run two identical Solid state amps in a stereo/dual ping-pong setup.

I mean it could work but I'm not sure how good it would sound, since you're running a cab sim into the front end of the amp. Really depends on what amp you're running it into.

@@CatPickStudios thinking about running them into a Nux Duotime and from there out into 2 identical Vox Pathfinder 15Rs (class A amps) in a stereo dual/setup, and on clean settings, that's why the Duotime is in the signal chain.

I bought one after watching your review. So now I have a dilemma, as to which set up would be safe: 1. Amp head -> Nux SS Input (Obviously with speaker and 4db+ selected) -> Nux SS thru to Speaker CAB & Nux SS Output to Audio interface. 2. Amp Head -> SS in -> SS out to Audio interface. 3. Amp head -> SS in->Thru to Load box -> SS out to Audio interface. Also I have got 4/8/16 ohm spkr out, so which one would be suitable? btw I am using EVH 5150 50W amp head. Best Regards.

The ones that should work are 1 and 3. The SS isn't a load box so your amp still needs to be properly loaded so you don't break anything. In option 1 you would still also hear the amp throug a cabinet, in option 3 you possibly wouldn't depending on the load box. As I said, 1 and 3 will work and you should be in no danger damaging your amp. I haven't heard anything about which impedance you should use with SS, most likely all of them work just fine. It does! I recently demoed the little version of this pedal called Mini Studio and that’s exactly what I did in the video -> uploaded an acoustic IR into it and tried it with my guitar.

I’m sorry for being a noob but if I plug in my guitar>pedalboard> solid studio> PA system will it sound like I’m using a combo amp or a real amp?

Noob questions are alway welcome! You are correct, that's the idea. You might have to set your pedals a bit differently than with a real amp, but otherwise it should work the same way.

Can you turn cab sim off on the Zoom? If you can, the yes, you could use Solid Studio to run the sound to PA. That’s what I’ve done many times.

I got a radar radar exchange offer from my solid nux studio, what do you think of that? Instead of timbre the radar is superior to nux?

Sorry I re-read your message and realised you asked for advice. I personally think the Solid Studio sounds better, but Mooer Radar is much more compact and has a powerful EQ in it. :)

I just bought this unit and though it sounds fine when ever I plug the balanced out into a PA it screams like crazy and havent figured out why that is. I'll confess that I'm using a Mooer DC power brick but it is still accurate power for the unit and it would only be buzzing if there was a mile-amp issue. Has anyone else had this problem?

Hmm, sounds weird. I would definitely start troubleshooting by trying it out with a different power supply. Sometimes a pedal and a power supply just don't work together no matter what you do.

I bought a unit in December 2019 and it was noisy like that, so i returned it and they sent me another one. The new one was fine, used it for a couple of months then Covid hit. It was not used for about 4 months and I pulled it out to use it and it was noisy! The seller would not let me return it but NUX told me to send it to them and then they sent me out a new one. The new one is still in its package...I'm trying to sell it since it is new and still in the plastic wrapper. I don't want to risk opening it and it being bad or go bad in a few months then i am out everything. So frustrating.

I'm finding my SS (that's an unfortunate acronym..yikes!) a little bright and harsh with the Power Amp side on. Perhaps an EQ pedal like a GE-7 between preamp pedal and SS (there it is again, I'm so sorry, I am too lazy to type it all out...okay Solid Studio...that's better)?

Haha yeah it’s not the best acronym out there... I’d say give it a try! I agree that with the power amp sim on the pedal can easily sound too bright. I compensated that by having an always on OD as the first pedal in my signal chain and brought down the treble that way. I bet GE-7 will do even better job.

I bought the pedal and I get a high pitch sound when using xlr output no matter what I do. with or without any input and with both footswitches on or off. Any help?

Wow that sounds bad, sorry to hear that. To me it sounds like you have a faulty unit, I would take/send it back to the store.

Well technically yes, but you will probably want to put an overdrive pedal with eq in front of it to have a bit more control over your sound. I've played live few times where I just had few overdrives, modulation pedals and then Solid Studio at the end of the pedalboard. Worked really well. :)

@@CatPickStudios That's basically how I use mine, but I also include a Mooer UK Gold Micro Preamp to try and smulate the full pre and power amp stages of a real amp. Works well, especially with a few pedals up front and a delay between the Mooer and the Nux (kinda like using an FX loop). I run both of them "off-clean" and drive the units with boosters, OD etc.

I'd be curious if it could work somehow with just a speaker cab - not a powered PA, just an extension cab. I wonder if there's enough juice in it so it might work as a genuine "faux power-amp". Probably not.

Most likely not. Obviously you could run it into a powercab but it’s not the same.

@@CatPickStudios Yep. There might be a way to do it with one of these new small ss heads, like Quilter, but that's essentially no different than running it between any head and cab (in terms of setup, if not tone).

Nothing that is an actual "preamp" in a pedal. Just the two pedals you see in the video.

I'm having trouble with this, trying to post everywhere. So, I am running my pedals, into a terror stamp, in there I am running delays and stuff in the loop back into terror, then from the speaker output of the terror into the input of SS5 / then did what you did there, with speaker cables and stuff in SPK mode, the THRU goes out to my cab. and the SS5 output into the interface. but no sound at all. I think im not doing anything wrong since I just did what you did there. hope nothings broken.

After continuous trying, it works when I go straight into the amp with no pedals. then the advanced method into the ss, to cab and interface. But of course I want to use the pedals. If I use my pedals and the fx loop of the amp and all, then turn off the SS5, the sound goes into the speaker, but of course, the SS5 is off so nothing is being simulated into the interface or headphones. I am starting to believe it is a power issue. But again, unable to use as intended. Anyone?

Sorry to hear you are having issues. Just so I understand you correctly: If you go Guitar -> Pedals -> Terror Stamp (maybe some of the pedals in Stamp's loop)-> Cab, everything works, right?

@@CatPickStudios thanks for the reply man, apprrciate it. Yes, everything works fine, but when i plug the ss it stops working. No sound to the speaker or anything. Weird thing is that i cannot put any pedal. In front or in the loop. The ss5 wont work unless it is off. When i turn the ss off it works well all the pedales and stuff, and it is going through it, you know using the speaker cables thru. I can only have it working when i am not using any pedals just guitar, terror ss5

Hmm, sounds weird. This might be obvious question, but have you double checked all the cables and tried SS with a different cab and mic combination? I'm just trying to rule out all other possible issues. :)

@@CatPickStudios I did and nothing. When I use the fx send of the amp into the ss5 it works. It seems that when using the speaker out it will not take the power section of the amp unless it is off, then it just goes through, but of course, as mentioned, no simulation and no cab noise.

Vladimir hi. I’m a home musician/ songwriter with no technical experience and 64 years old so not very computer savvy. I bought the SS but only use it though my headphones because my amp and head are one so the way I’m understanding the hook up can damage the amp if done improperly. So can it be done or is there something else I need to purchase. I’ve watched so many videos I’m getting totally confused. None of the stores here in the us sell this so I can’t ask anyone to show me how it’s done. Any help you can give is greatly appreciated. Best regards Joe Provenzano

Ok looks like it's an acoustic amp. I checked the manual and looks like you can safely use the line out to plug into the Solid Studio. Should give you wide arrays of interesting sounds. Hope this helps!

Ah now I got it! Unfortunately no, it just outputs line level signal that isn't strong enough to move a speaker.

It won’t work. It’s power amp simulation to mimic the sound of an power amp, not an actual power amp. :)

If you put stereo effects after it, yes. It has mono in, but the line output is stereo.

I think it depends what you need. If you only need an external IR loader then the Moore Radar is good. The built in cabinets in Solid Studio kick Mooer Radar’s butt and it has much more features for not lot more money.

Sounds like you might want to check your listening environment. It's all midrange especially with the Pure Sky.

The IR I create with the Solid Studio is a bit mid scooped and there's more high end, but otherwise the sounds are pretty good. I know I'm biased saying that, but I think I usually get pretty good guitar tones. :)

@@CatPickStudios I use AKG K701 headphones and compared your vid also with other vids of the nux...and I can hear that artificial harshness in all of them...I also compared it to the digitech,the Hotone and the Mooer and they all sound good...

@@noworries12 He also is almost always using the Nux with the mic position in the center, the brightest cab and mic and doesn't adjust the presence or anything. You can definitely get a full, non harsh tone if you use more than just the JC120 cab with the mic in the center and the brightest mic on the pedal.
