Madam carbon dioxide dipole moment is zero, so it must be ir inactive

But when IR rays falls on co2 it starts vibration because of assymetric stretching : i.e; one corbon under goes compression and another under go stretching ( it is exceptional case)

for one carbonyl o2 donates for nxt carbonyl because of l^ in electropositivr on c there will be more bond strength more stretching
