I never leave comments on RU-vid, but you sir should be on iracing's official website with the tutorial content you make. You've made my iracing experience 1000 times better, and I thought you should know it. Thank you very much for taking the time to help people.
I couldn't agree more with this comment and in fact was going to write pretty much exactly the same thing. I'm just starting out and know finding good content helps speed up the learning curve. I first watched 3 or 4 videos created by other people but truly hit the jackpot once I clicked on the knowledge you share! The information given actually makes a difference, you try to stay neutral/unbiased while explaining it & there's no doubt you truly enjoy helping others step up their game. You're making the iRacing community better 1 driver at a time & I'll gladly promote your channel to anyone who doesn't already know & everyone just starting out!
@@Sampsoid Coming from ACC I was really bummed out that there was no way to change the seating position forwards and backwards in the car. Thanks for the video. a true goldmine!
There is SO much information in one video. iRacing should have this as a 'Get started' video honestly. Really great video and I've learned so much. (and I've had iRacing for 6 months now)
Absolute legend with these timestamps and all. Just getting in to sim racing and this is a godsend. Shame setup sync seems to be dead, but the rest of this is still relevant and useful.
Another great video. Favourite tip here was the ability to use CTRL+F12 to change to the cockpit view without altering FOV, height or horizon. Many thanks.
Great video, well put together. As a recent convert from console all this advice is very helpful. My iRacing Manager now fires up Crew Chief and Discord, camera settings are now optimised to my preferences (ctrl+f12, who knew??), and my HUD is how I like it (alt+k, another learn!). Likely to look into Kapps and VRS in the future but right now things are just how I like them. Thanks David!
This is fantastic stuff. Most of these things I learned from being involved with Shaun Cole and "The Simpit Crew" guys, but as usual I learned a few things from you. I had someone talk me through most of this stuff in the Simpit discord channel. I would have been completely lost by myself. We need people like you to make this sim easier to get on with. iRacing is not as easy as other games to figure out. Good work!
Thanks a lot. Yes agreed iRacing can be daunting, I like to share everything I learn, because a lot of it I have learnt from trawling the web in the first place. Thanks for all the support.
David, thanks. Just joined Iracing and watched most of your videos - had a few practice sessions with no crashes and felt it was time to join a race. Qualified on pole, and won the race 13seconds ahead of second place. Again cheers mate!
Hi David, new iRacer here and have been enjoying your streams. Subscribed! Thanks for taking the time to pull this together - very helpful, especially the neat little tricks for auto-starting Kapps. Cheers!
Crew Chief is a very good Fuel system, but as you said, it does not get effected lap by lap It takes your lap with the MOST FUEL USED and works from that single lap Best part is it uses that to add fuel when you enter the pits and if you don't need a full tank it adjusts the fuel you need, that can save you time in the pits Years ago I had an iRacer make an App for me that is much better and has even won a few races for me all based on Fuel mileage I can set it to 10, 15 or 20 laps and it will use the Average fuel over that last number of laps The number of laps I use is based on the car and track combo It updates at the line each lap and tells you how many laps you have left, if you can make it to the end and if so, how many extra laps you have down to the 1/10 of a lap One of the things I like about Crew Chief is that you can set the level of comments of different types from the Spotter and the Crew Chief. As I like long races and I want lots of data without looking at Black Boxes I have the setting for almost everything set to 8, 9 or 10. Every lap I get data coming the the Chief, lots of it Very good add on
David this was a great video, I've not come across some of the tips and put across really simply. Will definitely cut my learning curve once I get started.
I just got into iracing but I have raced this platform years ago. It had all the garage adjustments and because it was smaller, it wasn't too bad. Now tuning a car and trying to be competitive is really hard. You mention setup sync in a video or two so I tried to download it. Apparently its no longer supported. For us newer racers, is there another app that works similarly? Your videos really made my mind up about trying iracing, which I have wanted to for several years now. Like all the other comments, I thank you too.
If your on Discord here is invite to my discord - discord.gg/MnPsUbv It's new but trying to build a community of like minded sim racers and sim racing fans.
This series is brilliant. I've just made the plunge into iRacing and your tutorials have helped me no end. Thank you. Ps. I've subscribed to your channel and look forward to more content
Nice video David, thank you. I still haven't got kapps set up for streaming. My streams are quite bland but I am just doing it for a bit of fun. I may look into kapps at some point still.
You should try Iracer Assistant in place of Iracing Manager. It has the function of Iracing Manager and a whole heap more. You can find it on the Iracing forums.
Haha it's amazing how much community made software there is for iracing. Amazing video mate. I think I will wait a few months before I install anything. I am still struggling to keep myself on the road 🤣
Yes it is through kapps but you have to install it from here: github.com/MorisatoK/ir-mapoverlay After installed add a custom overlay in kapps and point it to the setup map url.
It seems that Kapps has changed the way it handles launching the overlay on startup. Now it requires the profileId as the second argument (instead of null). You can find it in Kapps in the address after profileId=. Without this Kapps was launching an empty overlay. With the profileId it launches properly.
Man you just saved me god knows how many hours thanks for the awesome info and non of the fluff straight to the point I loved it also have you used sim hub for overlays and other stuff
Great advice, well explained ! Got them all installed ok and looking forward in particular to using VRS to improve my times. Thanks a lot David - subscribed :)
Some helpfull vids you got there David Sampson ! After being away from iRacing for many years much has changed and some vids are super helpfull ! Subbed :) One thing that buggers me when seeing you racing, the seating position you use ;-)
Hey mate, brilliant video worthy of a like and a sub. I do have a quick question though, and apologies if I've missed it in the video. How do you get the mini-map of the track? I'm using Crew Chief and RaceLabs fwiw. Hope you're well.
thank you so much. starting with iracing, your video is just a MUST ! One question havent found arguments line in iracing manger to do the same automatic command for overlays with racelabs app. Any idea ?
I'm really struggling to set up Kapps the way you have I've watched this about 20 times and I still can't seem to get it to overlay my game without windowing iracing
For anyone having issues with the Kapps argument "open-racing-overlay null" in IracingManager opening an empty overlay: a new version of Kapps came out in January that changed the argument from null to your profileId. You can read about where to find your id in the About page of Kapps (near the end). @David maybe add this to the video subscription or annotate the video with the updated solution :) thanks though, great tips
@@davidnelson8045 in the racing overlay tab of Kapps, left of where you would click to open a new window. It's a URL and near the end of it there is a profileId argument. It's well described in the About page of Kapps, as mentioned ;)
Your videos are great David. I have a question with saving the in-car setup. I have ticked use customs control box in the options and followed your video to the letter. Everything I do loojs excatly the same as the video but when I load the cam setup that I have saved, nothing changes. I save my preferred setup, then set something stupid so the change will be obvious, load the preferred and nothing changes. Any suggestions you have would be greatly appreciated.....
I really struggled to know what's the name of the overlay sotware and I gave up... That would be nicer if you could put some notes in the description area....
Hi David, great video, liked and subscribed. I believe you have to pay for VRS to be able to compare your lap times with laptimes of VRS Drivers, right? Have you tried the application "iSpeed" ? It´s free and they have also a ton of saved files to compare from every driver who uses iSpeed.
I just got a logitech 923 for the xbox/PC and my wheel Y axis is reversed only for IRacing!! When I try to calibrate my wheel to the left I turn right, when I turn right I turn left! How do I fix this ?
A few questions, starting with hopefully the easiest. Step 3 in the Kapps map overlay Read Me file is unclear, 3. Extract contents of the ZIP into your iR Browser Server "apps" directory . Can you clarify where to extract the files to? iracing manager is downloaded, but I don't know how it's to be used, can't find its app to open. Nothing new happens if I open Crew Chief. I've yet to make Kapps show up on screen. Does it work in VR?
Cheers to you David! Thank you for the incredibly insightful iRacing videos. Question.....You reference Chrome and how it is not good to use with an iRacing session open. I love using Chrome for most web-based functions and had no idea this was an issue for iRacing. Do you have a recommendation of the best browser to use with an iRacing session open? I use JRT and that opens in browser tabs so I still need a brwoser open even if using the Beta UI. Thanks again!
With cost of IRacing do you think its worth me buying a subscription now and purchasing tracks and cars before I get started? Thinking about spreading the cost.I have the Fanatec Clubsport F1 wheel. I will be in getting a round rim in a month or so. I wont be starting until then. Cheers.
Hi, when I start iRacing and put it in full screen the overlay isn't there, but when I put iRacing in a window it works. I can race with it but it's not comfortable racing in a window... Do u know a solution to this?? (I have 3 monitors)
I have a video coming on this real soon. Cannot use overlays in fullscreen. You need to edit the iRacing config to use the resolution of your monitors combined in window mode and aligned to cover 100% of your screen.
just a heads-up setup sync no longer is supported by the developer and is down for the fore seeable future until either the developer decides to start hosting again or someone else takes over
Thank you for all your videos they are very helpful, my husband is new to the iracing and we are having trouble getting KAPPS, Crew chief and VRS into iracing manager. All the apps have been down loaded but having trouble getting them to manager. Would you be will to help us out. Thank you
sorry...but i set Sode and Sim hub for iracing, but when i set into iracing.....the screen become with application bar under screen. Can i mantain full screen and app on screen? I write from Italy! Thanks
I installed Crew Chief but a weird dual volume glitch occurs. Part of his speech is normal volume and another very low or distant. I had this problem before with the iracing spotter, somehow fixed it (somehow because I'm new to PC and the whole thing is glitchy as can be and confusing). Any idea how to resolve this? I've turned iracing spotter off entirely, no text either.
Your tutorials are outstanding! QQ, I am trying to reposition the Black Boxes to the edges of a Samsung G9 49" display. I followed your Triple Setup Guide and have FOV set correctly, but the Black Boxes cannot move out of the "center" area - like the adjustment control hits a forcefield. Am I missing some ini tweak?
I figured it out, the 2 settings in the INI file are DriveUIFullScreen=1 allow the driving UI to span all 3 monitors and SessionUIFullScreen=1 allow the replay screen to span to all 3 monitors
Thanks a lot for this excellent video! Maybe you could help me with something else. I'm getting complaints that my microphone is way too loud in the voicechat during races. I checked some replays and it's probably the gain that's set way too high. Is there any way I can adjust this? I went through all the settings but I can't find it. (Btw I have a Audio-Technica AT2035 so should be decent right?). Btw I also noticed in your graphics settings that you have your GPU and RAM memory slides pretty far to the left. Is there a reason for this? I would think you're limiting resources too much.
