In 1979 I was in the third year of Medical School in Tehran University...unfortunately and or fortunately I left for US because of the sad and horrible Islamic Revolution...Iran in 1970s was truly advanced in every aspect of life. Women were free in every way. We were free to choose to wear super mini skirts and bikinis, or traditional or better said Islamic attire ( Chadoor ). What can I say...

Mace, the Azadi (freedom) tower was made by Shah (King) and it was called Shahyad, meaning memory of Shah, so you can guess why the name was changed, and was opened in 1972 vs Islamic regime that came to power from 1979, and it's 45m. They changed many of the old names of streets and destroyed alot of monuments but this one although made as the Gate of Cyrus, also the king of kings, ( the Islamic regime being against any history of the Kings!), was too much famous and a landmark of Iran, so fortunately they had to keep it but they changed the name to Azadi(freedom) And yes all the music was of Googoosh. The first 3 women in the picture were Googoosh, Masashi and Ramesh. The others you were right about the single photo of Googoosh and Hayedeh. The ones with baby on their backs were Googoosh with her son, Kambiz ( he sang few songs but haven't heard of him since long ago) and Mahasti with her daughter, Sahar. Everyone were free, happy, our money had value and I remember my dad got a US visa for the whole family in one day! We had respect, and our passports were valuable. Now I haven't seen my family for 12 years! They don't issue them a visa!, and many more things of inside Iran, which is too much to write here.

Lol! Haydeh’s sister Mahasti who on her own rights was a great singer was thinner than Hayedeh. I lived only ten years of my life in Iran and it was the best glorious time of my life which I miss so much. Iranians, not all of them, have been fighting modernization for over the past 100 years. The religious clerics have been in front of preventing modernization that was created by the west to take its shape in Iran. At the end of the day it’s the people themselves who make and help their country to progress.
