Welcome to this latest tour series! We've been looking forward to doing this trip to Ireland for quite some time especially after our fantastic Scotland NC 500 tour a few years ago. There's a reason it's called "The Emerald Isle" so we made sure we packed our Goretex Rukka gear. Sue had been to Northern Ireland many times and insisted it had rained every time! Without giving too much away - it was amazing! Not a drop of rain throughout the trip, brilliant Guinness, fantastic food and lovely friendly people.
It was too long for us to complete in one trip so we intend to do the second part next year. This episode takes us through The Brecon Beacons (brilliant stay at The White House Lounge, Sennybridge), and a pleasant 3 hr ferry crossing to Rosslare and my first authentic pint of Guinness.
We were disappointed to discover our Sat Navs wouldn't accept the Irish post codes (after a recent change) so thank goodness I had my quadlock and Calimoto app on my phone, it saved the day.
We had a slight change of itinerary on day 2 when Sue suggested we visit Blarney Castle (home of the Blarney Stone) so always up for a castle visit we went to check it all out and Sue couldn't resist getting up close and personal with The Stone!
A relatively short ride from the castle took us to our second stop at Kinsale for the official start of The Wild Atlantic Way. We'd only been in Ireland for a couple of days but were struck by the amazing quality of the food, the sea food chowder being exceptional wherever we went and it soon became Sue's "go to" starter. Usually on tour I have to spend time searching out the best bars and pubs for good ale, this time it was easy - superb Guinness everywhere!
