I was expecting this to be really bad, but the even for a cheap film, they did a pretty good job. I especially liked when Iria used her deflection of the projectile and sent it flying towards the water tower. A little awkward with the man walking next to apartments and finding that guy in a crystal shell. I loved the original. Would love to see a 2023 rendition like they did with Alita Battle Angel.
I would LOVE a remake. I watched this back in 1998 as a 13 year old boy. I was either playing Final Fantasy 7 or Watching Anime. Now I'm 38 and I still love this movie. Ahhhh nostlagia, take me back to those wondeful days.
DUDE FUCK YES!!! I thought i was the only one who remembered saturday anime on syfy! I remember seeing this on there and a dubbed random one on mtv cartoon sushi. I always remembered this anime and I never knew the name. I literally had to go thru hella cartoon sushi to find the episode that had this and then wiki it to find the name of this anime. Took me about 20 years to find this and it was yesterday when I did hahahahaha. I tried to explain this anime to people and no one knew so I was like fuck.
Saturday Anime I knew thee well. Record of Lodoss War, Heroic Legend of Arislan, Kasshen robot hunter, the list goes on. The very first one I saw was the original Vampire Hunter D, right as he's riding in with his theme song. Oh god the feels!
Awwh yeah the same here back in Trinidad in the early 90's on a Saturday afternoon me and my siblings would be tuned into the sci-fi channel to watch Japanese anime like Akira, cassan, vapire Hunter D and zeiram anime. Awesome times😃👍
Same here. I remember seeing many great anime on there like Akira, Demon City Shinjuku, Venus Wars, Record of Lodoss War, Robot Carnival, Tank Police, Vampire Hunter D, and a bunch more.
I was a kid when I saw this and I thought it was pretty scary Now that I am grown up, I can admit that this is laughable. But maybe it's good that it was done like this. It's an action movie for kids. But it's not so kiddie that it makes you want to puke
6:49 So this creature, Lilliput, was played by suit actress Mayumi Aguni. She might be the first suit actress to play a monster in the Japanese film industry, predating Jennie Kaplan (monster Pigmon; TV show "Ultraman: The Ultimate Hero"), Yumi Kameyama (monster Super Gyaos; movie "Gamera: Gaurdian of the Universe"), Rie Ota (monster Baragon; movie "Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack") and Naoko Kamio (monsters Minilla and Rodan; movie "Godzilla: Final Wars").
Man, Iria's just getting her ass handed to her by the near end here. Though I can't really blame her. I mean if you were to fire a nuke at that thing, you'd only piss it off!
+Nine PointO No kidding. But Iria tends to get her ass kicked in all incarnations. Even in the prequel, which is the anime series, her love of Gren (her brother) and her unwillingness to kill him ended up almost killing her.
+ZFSBoss2090 Not that it would've helped, probably-- as demonstrated later (SPOILER AHEAD FOR THE ANIMATION!!!) when Iria finally *did* kill Zeiram, that the only thing that WOULD manage to stop him would be destroying that little white face set in the 'brim' of Zeiram's 'hat' (actually just a part of his head). When Gren temporarily overrode Zeiram, enough so that Iria would have a chance to shoot them without Zeiram interfering, Gren pushed his way out of Zeiram's *chest* (and was likewise swallowed up by it when Zeiram fought back enough to regain control)-- even if Iria HAD shot in time, its more likely that, while probably suffering SEVERE damage, that even THAT wouldn't have been enough to permanently kill Zeiram. Plus, it is *heavily* implied in the Animation that it was *Gren* (via Zeiram) who finally gave Iria the hint on what exactly Zeiram's weak point was-- after Iria managed to cut Zeiram in half during the second part of their fight, in the Stardust Desert, his top half fell on top of her, held her down, and started assimilating her, just like Zeiram himself had done to Gren earlier in the series. The 'trance' Iria fell into (the white void, where she remembered telling Bob (and thereby the viewer, since the conversation was held offscreen) that that had been her plan all along-- to let Zeiram *start* assimilating her, so she could learn his weak point, but then KILL Zeiram before he could finish. What did Iria see *next*? Gren's smiling face, which promptly morphed into that snarling white face on Zeiram's head. When rousing, what did Iria promptly do? Grab that bead knife in her hair, stick it in Zeiram's tentacle jaw, and rip upwards, cutting that white face in half, and putting Big Z down...for *good* this time. At least until THIS series of films, anyway-
Love this so much. Such great Charakters and Costumes. I think most of this old "classics" or so called B-movies have the same amount of dedication as such great Films like Lord of the rings. Modern films often lack these kind of dedication.
Fun fact-- Iria's English dub voice actress mispronounces Zeiram's name...she pronounces it like the English title of the movie ('Zeram')-- watch IRIA: Zeiram The Animation for an example of when Zeiram's name is *correctly* pronounced in English.
dies Japan still make movies like this??! this stuff with today's tech would rival the comic movie franchise. you just need good actors and a good script
In comparison to Zeiram 2, this film has better fight scenes. They tried more acrobatic shots in the 2nd film, but these old fashion fist fights come across better. Yuko Moriyama looks way cuter in Zeiram 2 though. They do more with her hair and make up. Seeing her in that film makes you wish you had a cute Japanese girlfriend that looks just like her.
I ended up here randomly. I'm not going to get time I spent watching this back. Asian movie industry has to understand that manga type of ideas do not translate well into movies. This is a waste of everyone's time. ''So bad that it's good'' does not apply here.
