love Iris but the interviewer is awful. saying nepotism comments are "jealously" is just beyond condescending.

I do agree that it’s not taking into consideration the valid criticisms especially of those nepotism kids that are very out-of-touch regarding their massive privilege. I think it CAN come from envy, it can come from insecurity and the trauma we face as “normal” people regarding financial security etc. it can come from genuine critique. Look at Madonna’s daughter, she has recently said some ridiculous stuff trying to distance herself from her privilege. She cosplays as poor and it’s disgusting. But not all nepo babies deserve the same level of venom or critique, especially if they do acknowledge their own position the way Iris did so here!

Because it is jealousy. You can critique the concept of nepotism itself, and you can critique the ramifications it has on the quality of media. But most of the discourse you see around it is just pure vitriol at the fact that someone was born lucky.

It's a bit patronizing to assume the word nepo was a social media dig coined recently out of bitterness/jealousy or something. It's a 17th-century word from the Italian word nipote, which means nephew. at the time it referenced how many popes 'nephews' got special treatment meanwhile they were actually their illegitimate sons. of course, this social phenomenon existed even before the 17th century. Any person in a position of power granted their children and relatives an 'in' for higher class positions. nepotism is the successful outcome of capitalism, after all. human nature is to create exclusivity and to separate ourselves from others to affirm ego.

I can agree there are people struggling and frustrated that probably are using the word nepo in a way to attack her or negatively (the word itself isn't negative), but most are just saying the obvious. frustrated isn't even a strong enough word. Many are traumatized by money insecurity, unstable households, neglect, and mocked for their creative dreams. I would feel complimented and lucky to be called a nepo kid, honestly. at the end of the day, you have a good relationship with your parents, have their good looks, get to go on luxurious once-in-a-lifetime vacations/events with them yearly, and can explore creative careers easily without debt and insecurity. You spend your youth doing the active career you want instead of doing the slow tedious climb up the ladder and most age out before they finally catch their break. just have empathy for those not granted these privileges and have mental health problems stuck in school debt all their lives, are forced to stay with abusive families during the lockdown, won't see themselves ever owning a home in this lifetime, and are stuck in jobs where they don't get treated like the boss's daughter, but dehumanized/bullied daily.

@@zthetajulietta8184 You don't know anything about Iris. You're externalizing your locus of control onto her as a scapegoat, blaming her for hoarding opportunities that ought to be yours, abdicating yourself of responsibility. You have no idea how fate and fortune work, it's far beyond human comprehension, all you know is your OWN position, what YOU can do to succeed. When you justify your lack of progress by imagining that people who are doing better than you are stealing it from you, you're creating a narrative that steals away your own ability to control your life. It's called locus of control, look it up. Thinking that you know enough to judge a stranger is pure fantasy to begin with, and it's unhealthy and very rude to use your ideas of somebody you've never met to indulge the comfort of defeatism.
@goodevilbycharlottedalessi7249
I don’t think nepotism is coined recently. I think “nepobaby” is. & anyone who is being cruel to an innocent girl who did nothing wrong just because she happened to be born with more is coming from a place of envy or hate within (Because where Would it be coming from?) Not everyone is this way. A lot of people can happy for others who have more. Or just refrain from being cruel to those who do. Not everyone is envious of children of nepotism. But those who tear them down for their own agenda absolutely are. & it’s ugly to do to someone

@15nickjfan

@@nicolecruz5834 she’s not wrong. If the “nepobaby” didn’t do anything wrong then what warrants the hate? for example her sister has experienced hate for being a “nepobaby” even though Maude just lives her life. The only other conclusion is jealousy. If any of us were in her position we would be glad to take the opportunities afforded to us.

Iris mentioning Emma Stone made so much sense they have similar vibes! I totally think she would slllay voice acting in adult comedies like a specific show that comes to mind is Disenchantment idky. Also she's such a 2000s baby in an endearing way like all the comedies of that time in a cute red sweater.

i think iris missed the mark here and so did charlotte. It’s nice this podcast gives iris room to talk about her thought and perspective on nepotism but it seems like she already has an understanding of how she is viewed by the public n how that can’t be changed. if charlotte had moved on from the topic sooner even tho iris gave leeway a few times like speaking on her approach to acting, it still comes back to let’s talk about u being a nepo baby. it’s ironic. especially bc they don’t understand the more u speak about a privileged area of your life and try to put it in terms for other who weren’t born into the same life - the more u stray away from grounding yourself in the identity u came with but rather empathizing n maybe sounding like u pity ur circumstances. maybe that’s the path charlotte wants to take on her podcast, speaking on the “controversial” topics of her guest but that’s already what media encompasses. it would be more interesting to hear y’all describe a fly on your wall than hear about how a privileged person put things into perspective. yes we know.
