Trigger WARNING: eating disorders
This will be my first podcast talking about my modeling experiences & essentially my introduction into modeling & how I got scouted. What aspects of the modeling world affected me & how to get into it now. I also touch upon my experience with nepotism and what I've done to deal with it within the industry.

It’s crazy to me that at this time period I was also this insecure and idolized u thinking, “well if I looked like her I would be happy.” We really never know what others are going through and comparison truly kills. Thank you for sharing your personal struggles

Honestly, I don’t have a problem with nepotism if that person actually knows how to do the job and she or he does it good. The problem is when someone who is a relative gets hired over a stranger who’s actually much more suitable for the job than that relative is, that’s when nepotism becomes a problem. In my opinion anyway

I mean they directly take jobs from me. it's not the idea they are, it's that they are. but being angry over it doesn't help me, I cant compete with that and never will be able to compete with a powerful family behind me. my point is to not hate those who have more for the sake of them having more and being more blessed. I can only control what I can control, and putting my time there doesn't help me in my life. id rather put it behind trying to be talented or creative enough to not need anyones help.
@samantarizzi248

You should read “Running on Empty” by Jonice Webb (who has a PhD in clinical psychology). I also thought the absence/emotional distance from my parents didn’t affect me as I also had a chill, relatively happy childhood. However you’d be surprised how much the things our parents DONT do affects us. If they’re not there for us emotionally, we can develop severe self image, self worth, and self esteem complications. It’s a great read and has helped me astronomically in understanding the way that I think.

Thank you for being so honest!!! It’s your super power and what makes you so relatable!!! The part where you talk about being faded to get you through jobs was so refreshing, real, insightful and helpful. I would rather know the truth of someone’s success then bs highlights. The fact that you got yourself out of that headspace and habits is SO inspiring!🎀 also the part about nepotism was really balanced. I think it was important to say because a lot of people don’t have a lot of empathy. And just knowing that life isn’t fair can just put everything into better perceptive. Nothing is fair so no one should expect it to be. Some things just are.

Love the pod! And with the nepotism Conversation you make a good point of their parents trying to help them as any Parent would. But I don’t think it’s necessarily that people hate that they have famous parents or relatives , I think the part that gets people on edge is that some feel superior than others and make this sad story as if they were working a 9 to 5 busting tables to try to make it when in reality they’re living in a mansion in Beverly hills and say they’ve had to work 10 times harder than anybody else which sounds really ignorant. And just because your nepotism doesn’t mean that you’re not talented because you have people like Liza Minnelli, Jane Fonda, Sofia Coppola & many more who are truly talented but then you also have people like Kendall Jenner, Brooklyn Beckham, lena Dunham who refuse to believe that they have famous parents.

I’m so glad you made this video, you’re so well spoken. I’ve followed you on Instagram since you got scouted and this is so insane to hear the whole story from your perspective. I had a super bad eating disorder at the same time that you describe struggling with your self image/eating and idk man it’s so crazy because I definitely looked up to you so hard during that time, I still do btw, but it was like in a super unhealthy way before. So idk I’m proud of us both because I was definitely like ugh I want to look like charlotte so bad when I was a teenager. It’s such a mind fuck on both ends like you’ve always been the shit to me yet you had so much going on inside. I’m really happy to hear you’re doing better and this also made me realize how much I’ve grown as well. I hope this makes sense, sending you all the love ❤️

With the nepotism section, I agree that parents should strive to get the best for their kids and if you have a leg up you should use it to do something you truly love. My mother works in a furniture store and with nepotism (I guess?) I was able to be a candidate for a job, it was level entry not fancy but an example of simple common folk nepotism. Although I think the problem with nepotism is actors/models who have this huge advantage of getting an easy way into the game but they don't follow through with the talent. All while there are thousands of very talented people striving for that one opportunity. This take is tired but Kendall Jenner is a great example, highest paid model has an atrocious walk and no life in her eyes in 90% of her pictures. Her paparazzi pictures show more emotion in her face than any professional fashion shoot. And there's so many mid actors that are monotone but they only get the job because of their parents. On the other hand the Hadids are a great example of nepotism because they are so wildly talented and captivating. No one is mad at them or debating their positions in the industry. Other than that, you are a great model and you're so eloquent and you deserve the opportunities you get because you deliver every time.

really loved hearing you sharing on such a controversial topic!! and think you have a really important holistic perspective on the industry. i do think however this may be a time to look at the blind spots you may have, such as whiteness and heteronormativity. our privilege often times makes us distant from the reality of community, and without recognizing your inherent connection to yourself, others, and the environment this type of message tends to come off as individualistic and ignorant. appreciate your perspective regardless and have always loved listening to your outlook throughout your years of being online. 💛

Hi Charlotte, I just stumbled across your video and I have seen some of your content before so being relatively aware of your media personality, I was really interested to hear your personal journey as well as your perspective on these topics being a woman who has been programmed on the fantasy of the entertainment industry. I'm saddened to hear that you had such an element of self loathing in your formative years due to a deep sense of imposter syndrome. Not being able to recognize your own strengths and radically accept your own abundant presence can create a circle of despair within ones own acceleration. I'm so proud of you for choosing to love who are you and engraving love into what you do with passion! Although I do understand that the modeling industry is based on appearances and personalised aesthetics. It's certainly apparent that what is viewed largely as •beautiful• in the media are fair skintones, slim bodily types and symmetrical faces. Is this just how the world works? I disagree. This has been indoctrinated into our minds. This is not •nature•; this is a group of people who liked a certain aesthetic and believed that everybody or rather as many people as they could manipulate needed to feel the same way. When you have money, power and access to television that broadcasts these messages worldwide to an animal species that is shaped by cultural content, this is what you get. A world full of humans believing that they need to look a certain way, in order to be accepted into the entertainment industry or even , a n y w h e r e. It may be this way now due to these actions, however, that doesn't mean that it is natural or that we have to continue following this programmed narrative, collectively. I can also understand your point on nepotism. Favoriting your children and wanting to give them the best in order to succeed is merely but a human design. However, I don't believe that the frustration around nepotism stems from this even if that's what it may sound like (articulating emotions is only something humans are really learning to do now so there is depth to this conversation and why it is so widespread, just like feminism was. Feminism was ostracized for coming off as though we wanted men to fall to their deaths and unfortunately the media pushed that narrative to its extreme. When infact, feminism means equal rights for both men and woman. That was/is all.) I look at nepotism the same way. The frustration is coming from the inability to give • equal • opportunity to those who do have the • merit •, the • talent •, the • drive • to be in position that was given to someone who has merely a connection. A seat at the table can be given to anyone who was granted that invitation through universal law, whether or not others believe that you deserve to be there. However, when the scales of balance begin to be leaned more towards those who are privileged instead of those who worked to get there. That's a discrepancy within our system and our way of thinking. That can be changed because although the world may be unfair at this moment, it is only because we have allowed it to be this way for as long as it has due to the •greats• as you call them, intentionally or unintentionally pushing a narrative that we as a collective don't have the power to enforce change when infact we can. We are not sheep. We are concious beings. Evolving. Yes, I also agree that we, as a collective, are responsible for feeding into this due to our own curiosity but if I'm being completely honest with you, I don't care more about knowing who these • celebrity • children are going to become than I care about who my neighbor will be. We are all born with an endless possiblity of manifestation. Some are just more intune to their intuition than others but we all have it. Therefore, we can all access it. No one is more special than the other. No one is more great than the other. We are all merely snowflakes. Falling from the sky and eventually melting into the earths grounds. That can be difficult to embrace due to the individualist mindset that has been placed within our society. Thank you for expressing your perspective on your platform. I believe that this adds to a conversation that we all need to be having with one another as well as with ourselves. Thank you (: xx

So I had no idea who you were until a few hours ago and it wasn’t from this video (I was like 19 layers deep down an internet wormhole) but I’m here because I read your story and I was desperate to find out, like …. Is this girl okay, present day? I knew that experience could be potentially catastrophic after the honeymoon phase. Turns out you’re the only person I’ve ever heard put words to the reason why I bailed on modeling. My best friend was a model and then I started getting asked to do photoshoots too. I’ve always been very passionate about photography so I said yes, hoping to learn about photography from industry professionals. Instead, I found that being in front of the camera was, at best, uncomfortable most of the time, and at worst, it drove me to this, like… addictive, delusional spiral of self loathing and various kinds of self abuse. I’m still in therapy 10 years later, to make sure I don’t slip back into that toxic mindset. I still get asked if I model and when I say no, a lot of times it feels like I have to fight to get well-meaning people to respect my choice. they’ll insist I’m pretty enough, like that’s all there is to it. They don’t know what it did to me. I’m so glad to see that as of this year you’re safe and happy and healthy and smart. Thank you so much for sharing this, it’s incredibly validating for me after all these years.
