The 1916 Centenary Commemorative Medal (Bonn Comórtha Céad Bliain) is a military decoration awarded by the Government of Ireland to personnel of the Irish Defence Forces who served in 2016 to honour the legacy of continued service by the military to the state since its foundation and in recognition for the role they played to commemorate 100 years since the 1916 Easter Rising.

Picked a British Army march "saint patrick's day" for an Irish Defence Forces video, bravo.

I served 9 years on the Border between 76/85 in very harsh conditions, never got a medal. They give them out now for simply turning up on the day.

I served 25 years in the Reserve and anyone who served in the Defence Forces should have got that medal

It more in your duty to pay soldiers at the Gardai pay scale. Poor accommodation . Rat infected accommodation.. Poor food. Uniforms one size fits all. Officers who are more concerned about their welfare playing at being officers and gentlemen. In the curragh officers leave their shoes outside their room for soldiers to polish. Their meals are served by soldier waiters in white jackets. It has been know for officers in in the fields to have tables with white table cloth in the middle of a field served by waiters in white jackets. Soldiers get a dish of soup and Sandwiches

Sorry, your wrong. Gul of shite in fact. I have 31 years service on the curragh and I can tell you officers do not leave their shoes outside doors for someone else to polish. And no, I'm NOT a commissioned officer

@Lennon Swan Music some people with NO military service putting up comments and talking through their a**holes. I can guarantee you, the clown that made the earlier comment has no military service. Truth

@Lennon Swan Music good man, you do that. If it's what your passionate about then go for it and I'm sure you will enjoy it all. Don't listen to people with throw away comments, there are plenty of them. I have almost 10 years left to serve. That will be close on 41 years in total ( if I get there). I hope you get there, and I hope you succeed when you do .

It's just like one of the ones that ONE give themselves. A medal should be for something earned. Why does that Cav officer have her decorative lanyard on her right shoulder?

Cavalry pers wear the lanyard on the right hand side

What a joke . I think most Irish service personnel felt that about this medal. There should have been a stipulation like the queens jubilee medal in the uk for example you had to have served 5 years or more, that would have made it more special , but banging out medals to everyone is just stupid and devalues the gong
@markc1916
@markc1916 5 лет назад
corporal747 it wasn’t a service medal, it’s a commemoration medal to mark the 100th Anniversary of the 1916 rising. There is a service medal to mark time in service, and the queen and UK Forces can do there thing with medals and the Irish do our own with the Defence Forces medals.

@@markc1916 I know the Irish DFs have service medals. I fucken have one. And I know what the 2016 commemorates. I never said it was a service medal but banging them out like free sweets devalues it.
