An honest opinion should always be welcomed! _Survive_ is a fan favorite because it's good and they've been playing it since Dany, Pau and Ale were kids aged 17, 15 and 12. They first publicly played it in 2017 in a Ted talk at the University of Nevada. That's where the famous _"You have been warned"_ words were uttered for the first time when Pau _"Warned"_ the attendees.
Their 2017 TedX Talk performance of this song was the first time I heard them and like many fans, was immediately hooked. A teenage drummer who could also sing while playing drums - What?! This song will always be one of the “classics” in their discography. 😎
They don't play this often anymore but it's a fan favourite because it was their first big hit after it was featured on the game 'Rock Band 4', the same franchise that actually got the girls into playing guitars and drums in the first place. It was recorded when they were 16,14, and 12 years old.
To understand the power of this song, you need to watch the 2017 TEDx performance. It is the one that caught the hearts of many fans. I think The Warning will have two eras: before “Keep Me Fed” it will be Classic The Warning, and after “Keep Me Fed” it will be contemporary The Warning.
Loved the reaction! They’ve literally been playing this song since they were kids. You should check out the Ted x University of Nevada video from 2017. This is the song they ended with. Pretty amazing!
It was off their first album that they wrote and created when they were children, none older than early teens. Think of it in that respect and you understand what an incredible accomplishment the song is.
This is one of their first original songs, they composed it when Dany was 16 and paulina 14, I guess, so, their composition level was not as mature as now, but the final riff is the best of the song,.Check the 2017 TEDx Talk from Nevada Unversity, is the best version of this song,, they were so much younger, but you'll get why maybe you didn't connect with the song sooner.
The first half almost accentuates the second half. Its one of my favorite The Warning songs. I don't care for the studio version, but the live version rocks!
An ICONIC song by The Warning, loved by almost every member of TWA. It was the encore song for years, replaced by Evolve in 2022. As you see some of the 'first time views' of Early TW, hopefully you will embrace ALL their music. And yes, sometimes we need to hear a song more than once for it to grow on you.Edit: I was hoping the outro would turn you around. If you watch their TEDx Talk 2017 3song talk in front of a large audience at the University of Nevada, you will be more impressed with them as than as just musicians. However, you must watch it all, no skipping the actual talking!! See, I didn't jump on you.
One thing that may make this so special to longer-term fans of The Warning is that it reminds us of their incredible performance at their 2017 TEDx Talk. It might also remind us of how young they were when they wrote and originally recorded it. Pau, the creative force behind most of their compositions, was just 15 when the recording dropped. I've heard, but can't verify, that she was more like 13 or 14 when it was composed. It's a song I personally liked from the very first sassy lyric, so I was a little surprised at your initial non-plussed reaction. Fun to see, though, that you ended up liking it.
I literally laughed out loud when you said you'd be surprised if this was anyone's fan favorite at 5:50. I knew what was coming, and had a good idea how you would react to it. Another thing that gets missed the first few times around seeing this performed are all the little synchronized movements they do during this song. If you watch any performances of this keep an eye out for Dany and Ale swinging their instruments out in front of themselves at the same time 7:32. Also Pau and Ale tilt their heads to the left then swing them back to the right 7:42 These happen at several points throughout the song.
On many of TW's songs they have a knack to grab you by the ear at the beginning and slowly twist it as the song goes on until you're head banging by the end of it....;) Take a peek at their 2017 TedX performance of this. Pau launches a shattered stick without missing a beat, which is not unusual for her. (the whole performance is worth a watch) Nice twist on your reaction....
Absolutely my favourite The Warning song, along with Martirio. And I hate how RU-vid constantly puts an ad in just before the last note or chord of a song, they are really evil😂
The Warning has very meaningful story telling lyrics some of the newer stuff is more poetic which can mean different to many, Pau is a story telling novelist writing drummer
I love this version but do agree with most of TWA that the 2017 is most impressive. But this version does have the synchronized Dany-Ale guitar 'swings', in your video at 4:40ish and at 7:30ish. I wish I could remember the sound check video where it seemed like they were talking about trying it for the first time.
The end is the hook. I'm there with ya. The first half is a lot of teenage angst. It ain't bad, but it's not special. The second half, that could be 7 minutes longer and I'd be on the floor begging for mercy. An oldy, but a goody.
7:41 Ale and Pau do a 'sister' thing that I've noticed, popping their heads from side to side on a certain beat, which is cute. They do it in this song and a couple others that I can't remember off the top of my head. But you're right, there isn't anything earth-shattering going on during the song. It's good, but then goes next level during their jam session at the end while Pau loses her sh!t on those poor drums once again. That ad made you miss Ale's last bass note with her split second "All eyes on me" rock star pose. Great reaction!
Ale and Dany have a similar thing, they both swing their guitar at the same time. This can be seen in this video 4:40 and 7:31. There might be other times that do this, but those were the time that are most clear.
They have been playing this song in almost every concert for 7 years now. No wonder they became a bit creative and added such little details to their stage show.
This song was written when they were kids just cutting their compositional teeth. I don't know enough to judge it, but maybe that contributed to your initial feelings?
You really need to check out the TEDx version. If you liked this one the other will blow your socks away. The song has 7 years already and watching them perform it 7 years younger is other worldly!!! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-pj5ue3M-v6o.html
