This video contain pro, college, high school and pee wee football. These big hits are rare and mostly it's a slow moving game with lots of strategy. But it is SO damn fun to watch! The ones who move on from college to pro have to redouble and triple their skill sessions and workouts so even though the player may weigh over 200 lbs, it's mostly all muscle. It is not a contact sport but a collision sport! People run at each other full speed! It's like getting hit by a truck (according to most NFL players). Physics says an average football player can generate 1600 pounds of tackling force!! College football is the most exciting because the crows are so large. The latest rules are designed to protect players from head injury. So leading with your helmet or 'targeting' is now illegal.

The worst part of getting hit is when you look up and seeing the guy standing there looking at you with a smile. Back in the late 60's when I played in junior high and high school there were guys that used their forearms to hit you on the side of your helmet and ring your bell. Many of the pro players live to hit somebody big time. And those guys usually don't mind getting hit themselves.

The NFL are not average. Most are over 200 pounds of pure muscle and it's rare for anyone under 6'1 to be drafted. Actually many colleges have amazing athletes that don't get pulled because they are shorter than the average NFL size. Payton Manning is huge. Most football players make average people look like toddlers. The pulled pro rugby super stars but many don't stay in the NFL because it's too hard. Everyone is faster, agile and out to kill but Americans get back up when hurt. For pro rugby players the impacts took a toll and they had to go back to rugby because it was too much. Constantly training, Constantly practicing, Constantly getting hurt and no one cares. Many pro NFL players play with fractured bones, torn muscles and recent surgery. It was a far too difficult sport for rugby stars to stay in and when they went back to rugby they dominated because of the brutal training and conditioning they went thru

The biggest difference in tackling and blocking between Rugby and Football is that blocking is legal in Football and not in Rugby and in Rugby you must wrap your arms around the opponent when tackling. In Football it is perfectly legal to just run at, and hit an opponent with or without the ball as hard as you can and you don't have to wrap your arms. However, it is illegal to lead with your helmet and also illegal to block in the back (When blocking the opponent must be able to "see" you. Basically from the front or side is legal, but not in the back), also called "clipping". I good rule of thumb is if you can see the numbers on the back of an opponents jersey when you block him, that is an "illegal block to the back" or what used to be called "clipping". It is also illegal to hold and opponent you are blocking, and it draws a penalty, unsurprisingly called, "Holding".

Ice Hockey, this modern version, and Basketball were both invented by Canadians. As a Canadian, who grew up playing hockey and as a proud fan, you are welcome! and you can have basketball! This rough style of hockey is Canadian Hockey. It is the reason why Canada is the dominate hockey nation in the world - more than twice as many intetnational wins/medals than the next closest country - Russia. Thankfully, some US players and leagues have adopted the Canadian style of hockey and avoid the European Style of hockey. The NHL was a Canadian league that expanded into the USA. Historically, most NHL players are Canadian, but that has dropped from almost 100% down to 50% today. Even hockey teams in the USA are half Canadian players or more. Hockey pucks are vulcanized rubber that are frozen for game use, reduces bouncing of puck. Pucks are shot at average speeds of 88 mph up to about 120 mph. The glass is 1/2 inch thick safety glass. The boards, can move a little, but are not padded and are boards, hard. Body and Hip checks are legal providing 1) the head is not the initial point of contact 2) you don't hit people from behind, on the numbers on back of jersey and 3) hip checks must be above the knee. Hockey players move at speeds of up to 28 mph and collisions between two players can occur at over 50 mph. Even though hockey players are app 20% smaller than NFL players, NHL Hockey hits are known to be over 20% harder than NFL or rugby. Then they land on ice or are smashed into boards - lol can't run out of bounds, in hockey, to avoid getting hit. You are not allowed to hit anyone with your stick, unless it was a follow- through on a shot. Fighting is illegal and results in at least a 5 min penalty or more. Fighting usually results in response to a dirty play/player - retribution and punishment - see ' the code' Hockey players do not stay down unless they are really hurt, normally they pop back up and keep playing - other sports could LEARN from this Most common hockey injuries are stitches and loosing teeth aka 'spitting chicklets' - when this happens, hockey players don't usually even miss a shift Hockey players play through the pain on broken legs, broken feet, broken jaws, noses and facial bones. If at all humanly or inhumanly possible, hockey players finish their shift, the game and the series. Ice Hockey is rated as the SECOND most difficult and tough sport, just behind boxing. Less than a 1% difference between the two. It is followed by football, mma....but who really cares about that. Each game is a full 60 minutes, made up of three 20 min periods. The clock is stopped when game play is halted. The NHL regular season is 82 games ( also has pre-season) and Stanley Cup Playoffs where you must win '4' best of 7 series, hence a minimun of 16 games to a maximum of 28 games played! An entire football season just to win the cup! Hence, it is the hardest trophy in professional sports to win! Finally, THERE IS NOTHING LIKE PLAY-OFF HOCKEY!

Rugby takes place with generally everyone facing each other in a picket line stretched across the field and generally they stay within 10 feet of each other. American Football, you have receivers running with their head turned and Defenders having 20-30 feet to sight in and come hard. Also, in Rugby, only the Ball carrier can be legally hit in the open field.. American Football allows Offensive blocking and pretty much any Defender is a target. Bottom line is the vertical game creates a more wide open field than the horizontally aligned rugby game and the blindside potential of passing/receivers taking hits from oncoming Defenders is where most of these hits come from . Also the pads and helmet are primarily used as a weapon. Rugby is a tough game played by tough people and they actually are much better tacklers than the modern American player, where seeking these kind of impacts instead of actually tackling leads to many missed "tackles"...In rugby, each player is an important line of a picket line defense, and often, when one player is beaten, there is a large gain/score coming .American Football, Defenders are stacked and more spread out, there is often someone playing deeper to protect. There is no deep Defense in rugby, so clean tackling is an absolute must and missing a tackle is generally disastrous....

I can tell by this response you never played Football. I was an OLT and the comment about the roles everyone plays in rugby tells me you never play. I had a critical role. First as I come to the line I am calling the blocking scheme based on what I know of my opponent and how they are set up. My job is to make sure the defense doesn't touch my QB or RB. The reason for the pad is because I defy anyone to show me a ruby, soccer or any other game where as the play going on, that someone away from the play, isn't jogging or going half speed. In Football you get 25 seconds to catch your breath and got full tilt every play

@@vincentcilano9461 I assure you I played and Coached a great deal of football. I can only say that what I wrote was apparently misapprehended by you or to put it more accurately, flew right over your head. Nothing you wrote was necessarily incorrect, beyond failing to acknowledge the real world use of pads and in particular the helmet . However, it had virtually no relevance to anything I wrote.
@vincentcilano9461
@vincentcilano9461 Год назад
@@thatmanstumototours2270 I am sorry you couldn't connect the dots. I did have a leap in my logic. Your statement:" also the pads and helmets are primarily used as a weapon" would imply it's main use is to hurt. That is a false statement. Here is why. 1 rules and regulations prohibit it. In fact in many of these clips you see the flag. 2. This types of infractions do not occur at a high level of frequency. Yes 1 or 2 a game. Therefore it is no primarily used as a weapon. It's primarily used for protection. Why do I say that? I see you don't deny that players in other contact sports go half speed when the play is not around them. Why because substitution is limited and there is no consistent stoppage in play. Thusly going full tilt the entire game is nearly impossible. In football that isn't the case. Player go full speed all the time. You also stated that the offense can block making targets of defenseman. yes you are right blocking is part of the game. As you stated you are the coach then you know you are limited in how you can block. No backwards block. No Chop blocks, no clipping. So you have to be in front of him with your side or back towards your goal. These do NOT apply to defensive players. The defenseman can use thier hands more as well. Finally you didnt state that that the offense is not allowed to even move for at least 1 second before the play starts. Which actually gives an advantage to the defensive player. However I am digressing from my point Because it is straight up face to face at full tilt the risk of injuries are high. That is why the pads exist. Every piece of equipment was developed over the history of the game to protect from injuries. Not to use as a weapon. The penalty seen throughout the game is proof that it is not PRIMARILY used as a weapon. Just to illustrate this, as an OLT I often have to pull. When I hit the pads are designed to absorb some of that reducing the force I hit him with. Now you may say that is why it is tougher to play without pads. See my earlier point about the breaks. EVERY PLAY is full force. Force equals Mass times Acceleration. When I pull I am not jogging into that person. I am running into that person. I have to because the play needs me to move that person out if the way before the runner hits the hole. But you know that as a coach. So the pads are not weapons but are for protection. My protection and my opponents. Because the laws of physic F=MA still hold true and when the A is higher (running not jobbing) the force will be higher. Again because of the breaks in the game, my ability to go full speed all the time is there. You remove the pads and people will get hurt. Unless they slow down. Then well pulling won't be effective. Neither will cross blocking. Stunting on the defense won't happen as often so the game moves more horizontal and not vertical. Now what does that sound like or yeah Rugby. Which yes I have also played. Both are fun sports to play but I really do wonder about someone who sees the pads and thinks ah primary weapons.
@thatmanstumototours2270
@thatmanstumototours2270 Год назад
@@vincentcilano9461 Again,irrelevant to my point or the video. The video is big hits and the question was why don't you see them in Rugby. Answer simply put is Rugby is a horizontal game where Offensive and Defensive players are rarely more than a few feet apart at anytime,anywhere on the field. Football is a vertical game with a forward pass and groups of Defenders playing well off the line. This makes runners/receivers easy prey for Defenders taking a running start to produce these hits .Add in the highly weaponized helmet and pads and you get these huge impacts. Rugby features none of that. Question answered.

Lol. You are so wrong about it being getting hit by “average size”. The average size for a male across the planet is 5’7” [170cm] weighing 158lbs [71kg]. The average NFL player is 6’2” [188cm] weighing 245lbs [111kg]. They are far above “average size”. It’s been equated that some NFL impacts are akin to being hit by a truck traveling 40mph [64kmh]. That’s why they call it a “collision” sport compared to rugby as a “contact” sport.

1:40 NFL linebackers are usually 6'2" 110KG and run 40 yards in less than 5 sec, corner backs and safeys are around 6'0 90Kg and run 40 yards in 4.5 sec. I'd rather get hit by a cornerback or safety. 3:10 is a cornerback/saftey. 7:44 is a linebacker hit and Ray Lewis is obviously a linebacker. That hit was bad too

@@COUNTYGAINSAnd a lot of people outside the US (especially rugby players) rag on American Football because they play with pads. Pads hurt much more because they take the weight of the spot that was hit and disperse it through the pad to weaken the blow instead of taking the brunt of the hit in one singular area. It's much more violent than people give it credit for, but damn if it isn't entertaining lol 🦅

@@COUNTYGAINS The pads do a lot. Imagine getting shot. All of that pain is getting transferred to that one area of your body. With the body armor on, it still hurts that part of your body, but it spreads out the pain to lessen the damage and lessen risk of severe injury. It's the same thing the pads do. If we played football without pads, it's likely that everybody who plays would've have already died in college.
