The first food is mostly consumed when a child is born. We have blue and pink versions depending on the gender. And they are handed out in schoolclasses of the siblings and at home if there are visitors in the first few weeks.

+hefaistros idk but when I was in the Netherlands last summer, living with my friend's family, they ate those every morning :D And white bread with sprinkles too. I laughed so hard when the family's dad started eating bread with star shaped sprinnkles :D

i'm dutch and i know all the food they eat but it's just not what i'm having for breakfast. btw the beschuit met muisjes (first one) is a tradition, when you have a baby party you serve them. pink/white for girls and blue/white for boys.

My mother, who was Irish, had a real fondness for mature cheese on cracker biscuits spread with marmalade. I enjoy peanut butter and banana on toast. Savoury and sweet combos are everywhere.

There is also a Dutch breakfast dish called "Houtsnip", it is cheese on top of "beschuit" and "roggebrood" on top of the cheese. It isn't the most common dish in The Netherlands, but a part of all the Frisians eat it quite a lot.

Try this old Cajun breakfast, eggs and rice. Many of our meals include white rice and we sometimes have leftover rice. We steam some of the leftover rice and place it in a bowl. Pan fry two eggs till the whites are hard but the yolk is still soft. Pan fry a few pieces of ham or sausage. Put the eggs and sausage in the rice and add a dash of seasoning. Chop up the meat and eggs stirring them into the rice. Sometimes I do just the eggs, no meat. If you get the mix right it's a balance of starch and protein to start the day.

I'm dutch. beschuit met muisjes do you eat when someone is born not as a breakfast. We don't usually eat brood met appel stroop en kaas. kokosbrood do you eat with toast. Ontbijtkoek is a side dish at breakfast. So you made some mistakes but nice try.

I'm a native Dutch person, here are my comments: 1. This is a typical thing we eat when celebrating a childs birth 2. We eat it with less Apple stroop. Otherwise it's overpowering the cheese, like in this video! 3. Never heard of it in my life.... 4. This is more of a snack, and we also eat it without butter 5. Agian never heard of this combination. We normally put the 'Roggebrood' on top of the food item in number 2, makes a good combination! Hope this clears it up for some people. Also i missed the hagelslag and stroopwafels, typically Dutch food items.

I'm Dutch for nearly 60 years and I've never eaten cheese on appelstroop or sugar on roggebrood. That's not normal Dutch food! Roggebrood you eat with cheese or bacon!

It's from a time we had not much choice in the Netherlands. We had to eat what we had and share it. All these things I had to eat because ther was not much of a choice back then.

As a kid i ate tons of rugbrød with butter and sugar, but not as much as jam on rugbrød (syltetøjsmadder).. I am a Dane though.

Ah, you could have made some better choices here! As a dutch person, most of the breakfast foods and combos shown are familiar to me, but aside from ontbijtkoek are all not really that common as breakfast foods. Yes, Kokosbrood is often a choice as topping for the breakfast sandwich, but choclate sprinkles and spreads are more popular. The cheese+apple syrup is a Southern Dutch thing while sugar on rye bread is completely unknown to me. Rye bread is usually paired with savory stuff (like bacon, ham, cheese or smoked or salted fish). And actually, I have eaten beschuit met muisjes for breakfast as a kid occassionally, but far more often the "gestampte muisjes" (crushed muisjes), which is a powdered version of the coloured muisjes.

+Nadia Mohamed Exactly..but they can fight that a bit by color correction or just dimming the light so they don't glow. :) But the light was so high, the food was even hard to see. :)
