@@aliwantizu you can typically find at local stores... unfortunately for me, in Virginia (State Owned Liquor sales) they don't carry Compass Box (with the exception of Oak Cross, and my local store is probably the only store who has it)

My little family and I (Americans of Irish descent) LOVE watching you guys...all of you! If you want to learn more about Whiskey, you should take the tasting tour at Jameson in Dublin. It's an amazing and educational walk-thru of American, Bourbon, Scotch and Irish Whiskies and what differentiates them. Slante!!! :-D

Darren, the persistent description of whiskey's vanilla flavor is caused by ageing the liquid in charred barrels. The containers' woody structure breaks down and creates vanillin. Any booze stored in burnt barrels will taste and smell a bit of vanilla, just like old books do.

Regarding the Peat Monster, the whiskey itself isn't smoked. The grain is before you even start distilling. Specifically the barley used to make the Caol Ila and Laphroaig that's in it.

We'd not see it - but you really should get the 1st season of The Thirsty Traveler DVD set. It's a Canadian going around the world, trying different drinks, and showing how it's made. Sadly, the series is done, and further seasons weren't released on DVD, but it was a really nice series.

Clisare really needs to try Yukon Jack. I believe that would be more her kind of whiskey. I don't care for JD, or many others, but I love YJ. Love it. It's honeyed, smooth, and warm, add a dash of lime and an ice cube, quick stir, you're good to go.

Martin is so right, you guys should have ended on the Peat Monster. Also would have been nice if you guys mentioned that these are all Compass Box whiskies, it's a producer/bottler of blended scotch whiskies, and they are pretty much the best you can find in the business. (in my opinion) I would love a vid of trying single Malt scotch. Just an idea! ;)

A Compass Box gift set? You can't narrow "Scotch Whisky" down to a gift box from one distillery Get them some from each region and at least three from Islay (Lagavulin, Laphroag and Bruichladdich).

This is hysterical! When I lived with my sister and brother-in-law during my senior year of high school my BIL would ask me to pour him a scotch on the rocks. He didn't trust me. So one night I was eating nacho cheese Doritos with onion dip and he wanted to smell my breath to make sure I wasn't drinking his. I don't like scotch and he never asked to smell my breath again!

Depends on the whiskey and the amount of water. A lot of whiskeys taste worse with any amount of water.

@@briangriffin2676 That only applies to peated whiskies, though (which taste like a combination of salt air, a burning tire fire, and band aids but in a good way). Bourbon cask scotch tastes likes vanilla and honey, and sherried scotch tastes like rum raisin christmas cake. Caveat is that you have to get used to the burn, but once you get over that hump, Scotch is a delightful thing.
