Do you think the pronounciations and grammar on Ling are acurate as an Irish speaker?

I don't think they are inaccurate.

So, given your comment below regarding Duolingo, in your opinion would you say that Ling is a better app for learning? I am going through the Duo Irish course for the second time. It has been updated and is much better than it was - but it still severely lacking in helping you gain real time conversational skills. That is what you and my tutor are for ;)

You're very kind, I think a lot of secondary Irish teachers think of it as a job and therefore lack the passion, knowledge and creativity to truly promote Irish as something precious and rare.

Thank you for clarifying something that's been confusing me for months! btw, in the American South, we have a slang English equivalent for the plural "you"--we say "y'all" when we're speaking to a group or member of that group, as in "And you and the family, how are y'all doing these days?" but I do like the inventiveness of "yee". It served the purpose quite well!
@LearnIrish
@LearnIrish 2 года назад
Glad you liked the video Julia, yes I was actually thinking Y'all as I was making it 😊
@Murphyalex
@Murphyalex 2 года назад
The pronoun 'you' in English used to be a plural form ('thou' was singular) and there used to be a subject form (ye) and object form (you). In Modern English the form 'you' became used in both cases. However, Ireland still retains this older and more conservative form. "you" and "y'all" and "youse" (like I use myself) are all the novelty forms, some more novel than others. It's a great thought, but Irish English here is being extremely conservative and not innovative. I wish it would be taken up by more people :)

Yes I would often say youse as well, like are youse going out tonight? Interesting concepts.

This was so helpful and explanatory! Thank you so much! I think prepositions can be one of the harder parts of the language because some of them are used differently than in English and have so many different “prepositional pronouns” that come with them. I appreciate the preposition videos you’ve done so far. If you decide to do even more preposition explanations in the future, such as for De or Ó, that would be amazing☺️

I'm a beginner in the language, but this really gives some useful clarity. As a first-language English speaker, there are differences between how Irish is built up compared with English, but these examples make a lot of sense. If I want to speak Irish, I need to have a sense of how Irish works, and this sort of thing helps in that way.

Hi Dane, just on 3:40 of this video... is it correct to think at as well as singular and plural for 'don' and 'do na' - is duine changed to daoine when talking about more than one person also?

I'm not really sure I understand what you are asking, did you not see Duine changed to Daoine in the video as it was referring to more than 1 person.
