Irish Rail 141 Class locomotives 162+171 working the Limerick/Ennis portion of the FO Dublin to Ennis train towards the end of Mk3 carriages on Irish Rail. Filmed 4th July 2008. www.flickr.com/photos/flyings... eiretrains.com/
Great video. Thanks for posting. Proper trains and comfy coaches hauled by iconic locomotives instead of noisy yo-yo DMU railcars with uncomfy hard back pain seats (roller skate buses on rails). Loved the sequence passing inchicore with all the interesting stock.
Inbelievable footage Ciarán, so much in this video is no more. I even see the Wickham inspection car in Ennis, I haven't seen that very much except on your website (:P). The claggy departure from Heuston was something to behold too:)
Thx Seán, I hadn't watched those clips in a while and that's the first thing that struck me - nearly everything has changed, I didn't even see the Wickham until now - alas someone I think has it somewhere! I filmed 079 while waiting for my own train to Limerick, so that was a bonus.
***** The Wickham I think was preserved but I've no idea where it is now. I wish I had filmed stuff in the 1990s but was too young, but overtime what's recorded now will mature in the future - a bit like wine!
@@Eiretrains Ohh.... Too bad it got stored. But lets look on the bright side: If you take the Pheonix Park Tunnel or any train from Heuston, you can still see the MK3!! By the way.... I never knew there was a Dublin to Ennis Route!!
+BritishRail60062 Just seen your comment now, yes some proper trains, alas now all gone on Irish railways, replaced as you say by rather tasteless railcars! :(
Its the same here buddy but having a preference for loco-hauled stock. Maybe I am just living in the good times too much. Time to change that because today I heard a Class 68 and they make a nice roar when revving up. For looks they are nothing special but the sounds make up for that I think :).
I could not agree more! Loved these beasts that awaited me when I came off the ferry at Rosslare, waiting to take me to Waterford; as a very small lad I would get as far as Cappoquin, sadly no more
