Brings back the best memories of all the dances I went to and fell in love with Irma's voice and music. I made up my mind to see her at least one more time in person, even if it is on my pre-mature bucket list. Lord bless Irma Thomas with her big heart, soulful soul, and the voice of an angel. Irma looks so content and fulfilled these days and she should be. Irma touched so many of us kids here in New Orleans and I was lucky enough to have been one of them. Love ya Irma.
I saw her at a club that no longer exists. If you from southeast Louisiana, and you're as old as me, you'll remember the place. It was called "Old Man Rivers". She was great back then, and she still great.
Isn't she wonderful? Still a great blues singer at 74; charming and looks great. Gives all young performers and fans inspiration. Time is indeed on her side. Love the ending of Ruler of My Heart (9:10). BTW, You Can Have My Husband was her first single in 1960--super instrumental solos on that one. Thanks for posting.
The year I served the food and drinks to the people where you was was fun I was sort of shy at first but I did fine your music and seeing you again was great thank you
Thank you spending Thanksgiving and Christmas times with you over the years was great you were family to me I love you I had no family or kin of my own in New Orleans I went out to your party lots of them thank you I would have been lonely without you and the people from new Orleans I moved back to Illinois ida hit miss you thank you and God bless you always your nice I love your kindness and music thanks so much
Great organ and other backing musicians. That's one of the beauties of NOJF. There's always the flexibility and local talent to put together a one-off, hot ticket ensemble to back their own legends for the fest. Love you Erma.
The most relaxed stage personality I ever saw. She stands up there as relaxed as she probably is in her kitchen I hope she cooks as well as she sings! I Love her
I heard her on a netflix program last night and recognized her right away . . It was this very song . She was such a sexy kitten type and FULL of talent . Still is full of talent . Still beautiful !
I've just discovered this great singer a few weeks ago. I've listened to some of her songs from 1963. Breakaway, Fancy, Hitting on nothing and Time is on my side. There are a few remakes from other artists. I was surprised to have a faint recollection of her songs. I wish she had been more mainstream. She obviously never did drugs or alcohol, because she still sounds fantastic in her 70s. She looks great too. I'm having fun discovering her old songs from over 50 years ago. God bless you Irma Thomas 🌼🌟🎉
I went to Delgado community college with her in New Orleans both of us "older" ladies taking courses I went back to get a degree in Computer Science I do not remember what her major was but English classes we took together in 1998 a beautiful woman inside and out
are those people aware they're in the presence of a living legend? Most of them talking and chatting and using their phones... so disrespectul. Wish I was there !!!!
No, Rufus and his daughter Carla were recording artists for Stax Records in Memphis. Irma was contracted by Allan Toussaint to Minit Records in New Orleans. They were not related.
