Thank you for a great video on Iron Deficiency Anemia. I was waiting for this video, because i just recovered from iron deficiency anemia and feel great. Thank you again for your very educational videos.😊
@SicilysCloset Hi, first let me say that not only my iron level was low, my Ferritin, TIBC and red blood cell levels were all low. So I had iron-deficiency anemia. The first thing they did was to rule out any GI bleed--which was negative. So my hematologist recommended that I start taking 65 mg OTC Iron supplements (325 mg Ferrous Sulfate) by Nature Made brand and to increase my iron absorption, I took my iron supplement with Vitamin C 500 mg (Ascorbic acid). Two months later my hematologist rechecked my iron level, and it was very high and all my other levels were normal. Since iron is toxic to the body, he told me to stop taking my iron supplement. While taking the iron supplement, twice a week I consumed beef liver and grass-fed steak and 4 eggs everyday, along with lots of Arugula, Kale, broccoli etc. I still take Vitamin C. I used the cheap, OTC Nature Made Iron supplement 65mg. But, had I known, I would have used Ferrous biglycinate 27 mg +Ascorbic Acid 500 mg (Vitamin C), like shown on the video...I also cut down my coffee from 4 cups to 1 cup a day, because coffee and tea has tannins, which promotes increased Hepcidin production by the liver, which reduces your iron absorption. So basically, I took 65 mg of Nature Made Iron Supplements, Vitamin C 500mg, consumed beef liver, steak and 4 eggs and lots of green leafy and cruciferous veggies.....hope this helps.. good luck..😊
Hi Sicily, I answered your question, I practically wrote a book lol..but I don't see my reply to your question. I hope you received my reply.. In case you haven't, let me repeat . My hematologist suggested I take 65 mg Nature Made Iron supplement and Vitamin C 500mg. I also consumed beef liver, grass-fed red meat, 4 hardboiled eggs daily, and a lot of green leafy and cruciferous veggies. After two months, my iron-deficiency anemia was treated successfully. If you have iron deficiency anemia make sure you are under the care of a doctor because once your iron levels normalize and you are no longer anemic, they stop the iron supplements because excess iron is toxic for your liver and other cells. So your iron levels have to be monitored. Have a great day
Thank you Dr Rajsree. I really enjoyed this video on iron deficiency and absorption. Since my Leaky Gut, I've improved on the better absorbed foods - most of which you highlighted. I've had the low acid, malabsorption, and not enough of the foods that help absorption. Having no gallbladder contributed to some of my symptons plus SIBO/SIFO and Leaky gut. I also make sure that my MVI has no iron.
Thanks so much Tess! Your comment is always a joy to read. Your support and kind words mean so much to me. Hope you're doing great and enjoying the spring!
Thanks for the very informative video. How would you interpret a low ferritin along with a borderline high serum iron and saturation percent? My primary doesn't seem to know.
Hi doc, thank you very much for this informative video! I have all the signs and blood markers of iron-def anemia - LOW iron, ferritin, hemoglobin, MCV, MCH, hematocrit, WBCs, iron saturation BUT I have HIGH RDW. Could you tell us what high RDW generally indicates? Thank you very much.
Thank you so much for the informative video. I want to get the pro enzyme for my husband because he has a lot of indigestion after a meal. I want to know is it safe for him to take it since he has duodenal ulcer ? Thank you
