I'm not a Metallica guy, but I recently heard The Unforgiven, and I thought "hey, that would play really well as a bluegrass tune. I wonder if someone's already done it." And then I found this. Great job, guys.
I was fortunate enough to spend some quality time in a little village pub in Ireland a couple of years ago. The singing and playing, close and emotional and real and personal, has given me a new appreciation for the heritage of bluegrass, and for the heritage of much of what we now call America. Somehow the forlorn lyrics of this song bring me back to Gus O'Connors in County Claire...and back to my grandmother's relatives in the hollers of Kentucky. Thanks for the throwbacks, guys.
I just got back from Ireland, I visited the same pub in Doolin. The music there has heart and soul, very similar to this style music. Makes me feel like everything is right in the world
Paul Bell, well said. The roots of bluegrass come from irish, scottish, and english immigrants in the 1700s settling in appalachia. I started out loving bluegrass and later learned how similar it sounds to irish traditional music.
Bluegrass, Irish, Scotch, music brought to our world because thats where we came from and in the hills you work really hard 7 days a week but when you party you party as hard as you work. This is as much America as is Jazz, Rock&roll. I now live in New Mexico and I find 6/8 & 4/4 song in Northern NM that are in fact Jigs & Reel. You can run away but you can't hide.
Just a PERSONAL OPINION. If you look at the history of Iron Horse they were a bluegrass group from Alabama. They were a band in 2003 was approached by a Cali music label to do a bluegrass album of Metallica, Fade To Black. The rest is history and TWELVE albums later, I think they are in a class by themselves. As they said in an interview, other bands do "fun" versions covering metal, they take a very serious approach. All the bands covered appreciate their work. Personally, I think Iron Horse & Cornbread Red are in a class by themselves. I'd love to get a candid opinion from Music City Roots. If you don't listen to MCR webcasts on Wednesday nights, you aren't really much of a music fans. Thanks guys!
Johnny Cash WAS into metal...often seen in the wings, at Slayer, Pantera n other such shows, plus collabs with Trent Reznor and more than a few other artists in the genre

I wonder if the guys from Metallica ever see these great covers & remakes, I'm talking about all of them cause they are many. I mean do they ever get to see these kind of things? And if they do, do they like it? I bet they do.
