The song is not about the maiden guys having this type of relationship... all the band members had married long before this song was written (maybe a decade or so :D and they were still married when they wrote this) bruce dickinson said in an interview that the song is about those who feel lonely and for filling that void, they go for whoever they meet and the bad effects that this whole process brings to them

'Wasted Years' is from the 1986 album "Somewhere In Time", while 'Wasting Love' can be found on the "Fear Of The Dark" album, released in 1992. It's the last album to feature lead vocalist Bruce Dickinson who left a year later to pursue a solo career before returning to the band in 1999.

Wasting love is a track from the album Fear of the dark. Wasted years is of the album Somewhere in time. However, first time I heard Wasting love I couldn't believe what I was hearing. A ballad from Maiden?!? I learnt to love it. Wasn't wasted time....

Iron Maiden - Phantom of the Opera (studio or live with DiAnno as lead singer) You need to do a song off of Maidens first two albums...original lead singer. They were a bit more raw/edgier and innovative for the time.

Their first Paul Di'Anno era was great too, cool songs: Phantom of the Opera, Strange World, Transylvania... actually, i'd make a humble request for the whole first self-titled album listen, start to finish, not necessarily for reaction, unless you want to (or any part of it), its just a very beautiful ride!

i heard this song shortly after release of the album (my cousin made me mixtape of megadeth, metallica, iron maiden and guns n roses, and i was like 9-10 years old). i fell in love with everything about it, even i was a little kid back then, imagery, album cover, and chorus of this song stayed burned in my mind. still one of my favorite songs after more than 25 years after i heard it for the first time.

Good choice. A bit different kind of Maiden. Slow and precise, making point. Desperate overall feeling that just craps you from the neck, Bruce is FEELING every word he sings. Thank you for experiencing something else than the usual The Troopers etc. Someday, I´ll be an honest man, maybe, and someday you two, maybe, will be reacting to the awesome running song from 1986, Loneliness Of The Long Distance Runner. Up the Irons !

The truth, for me if it is, a rather epic ballad. The Empire of the Clouds is also a legendary song, and it is also very repetitive, although of course, it is progressive. I hope they do that or the phantom of the opera, since, for me, avenida acacia 22 and revelations are below those already mentioned. Regards ✌

Great reaction as always... I listen to this song since I was 12 years old (29 now) and never thought of it so deeply, so thank you for that guys. Also, about the "dream on sister" line I really liked both of your interpretations. Sori is right when she says that a lot of girls try to go for relationships that will obviously fail... the image of Bruce Dickinson having a deep conversation with some groupie in a hotel room on the road was really interesting too, Vin.

Make sure you get tickets for the US tour next year. I've seen them more than 60 times over the past 30 years, this tour is the best yet, it's absolutely epic, I managed to do the whole UK tour this summer and will have to cross the pond for another fix this summer! This is an unusal Maiden tune, don't waste your love on one night stands, its more meaningful in a proper relationship. Please react to more Maiden, perhaps Revelations live from Flight 666 or even from Live After Death.

From all the songs you mentioned i only find Infinite Dreams and 22 Acacia Avenue better or at the same level of this, this song is also slow and can be considered a ballad so it is special and unique as an Maiden song.

@VINAnd Sori , The song is about AIDS, hence the line WASTING LOVE IN A DESPERATE CARESS. It came out at the time when AIDS awareness was gaining huge worldwide momentum especially when Freddie Mercury passed away the year before in 1991and then there was that whole AIDS awareness concert where half the world musicians performed n all .It is a very underrated Maiden power ballad and Maiden have written quite a few of them . Than you so much for reacting to this song. I had such a rough day and this song is so cathartic. I find Screaming along with Bruce and trying to put out as much anguish as he puts in this song cleansing and therapeutic. You should react to "Paschendale" live on their dead on the road concert or since you focused so much on sexuality react to the two song story "Charlotte the Harlot" and "22 Acacia Avenue"

I think Bruce said at the time it was about hooking up with groupies (not him or the band per se) & the emptiness of it. Also, the 1st 2 lines sound very autobiographical, relating to Bruce feeling very jaded with the album, tour, album, tour, routine at the time. He felt very constrained in the band set up & left a year later before rejoining in '99.

Fear of the dark man. Such an amazing and underappreciated album in their discography. Great song. So tight. Lyrics bring out the time constraint that exists in the search for love. Y'all should find a way to go to the live show.
