In this video, I try to save our old blueberry patch that we have neglected for several years due to not having an irrigation system in place. This year, I want to change that. However, I don't want to pull water from our well not use all the electricity that would require. Taking advantage of slope, solar energy, and automation I was able to come up with a solution.

Water Catchment could be done real cheap - Use tarps and bungees to your trees and have them come down to a V to your tank. If you have heavy dew like we do, you could fill them up rain or not. Direct it into the tanks or totes.

I have 6 X 50 gallon plastic drums that collect rainwater from my roof. If you get drums for water make sure they are food grade and never had anything but food in them.

Short-term fix to fill the tank, instead of running barrels up, stretch a hose from the hose bib to the bottom of the hose at the blueberry patch and push the water up the hill with the well pump, assuming it has the pressure to list the water that high. Not an ideal solution, but if the IBC tote is about 330 gallons, you would only need to fill it about every 20 days if you are watering 16 gallons a day.

That'll be fantastic for those blueberries!!!!! One of our favorite siblings 😉 had planted 700 blueberry bushes and requested shredded newspaper from local paper. They brought them mountains of it to mulch around the plants. They even put an article/pics about what she was doing. Helped so much with moisture and keeping sun from dehydrating top of soil. They like their feet covered. That was YEARS ago they were planted and they still have the biggest, dusty blue, sweetest, best tasting blueberries I've ever tasted. We told her we were having an issue with the birds and she said, oh yeah, you have to plant enough for them too. 🤣 I guess 700 was enough? They lost about 1/3 of them as someone in the family didn't listen to how to prune them. He pruned them SEVERELY. Very sad. But she still has plenty today. I'd love to have a small orchard of blueberries. And different apples..... pears.. etc. GREAT job, Troy!! They're gonna be wonderful! 💌

Looks you have well spaced, uphill trees to suspend tarps. Maybe catch rain in tarps/barrels uphill and hose those into the IBC? -KJ

What if u put a large tarp on the ground uphill from the blueberries? Than water would run down the hill to the blueberry area? Use the sloped gound to catch water. Or use some shallow trenches to direct water to blueberries

Really interested to see how you can get water catchment incorporated at the top of the hill near the tank. Leaves, debris, and filtering will be an issue I would say. Looking forward to seeing how you work through that. Thanks for the video. People will watch the video of the net going up. You’d be surprised.

We finally got our main blueberry water set a few weeks ago as well. We had a few splits on our hoses as well. Would like to see your bird prevention.

How about punching a hole 20-30 feet in the ground. Install pvc pipe into gravel right next to blueberries. Build a 4-5 high platform for your tank. Use solar panel and pump to transfer water out of ground. Assuming that's where your water table is located. No tractor, no ground erosion hauling water up the hill.

I use PEX buried about 6 inch in the ground to run water for semi permanent installations much cheaper than hose i found

Now you have a new hose running from ibc to plants, could you put a junction in and use the same hose to backfill the tank from the house once in a while?

Troy, great video. I was thinking. I know you have chickens near your house to fertilize the garden now, but do you still have that huge lot of all different kinds of breeds? I just recently came across that video with you and Kelly talking about your favorite chicken breeds. Hi, Troy. If I am correct you still have a bent axle around so I would make a trailer for the tote and use it to tow a full tote of water up there.

Nice video Troy. So what if you got a solar well pump 250 foot lift. Some solar panels to run it and 1,000 feet of 3/4 inch poly pipe and ran from your creek up behind the garden past the chickens to the tank, no road crossing. Maybe tea off and water the coop.I am guessing the tank would be running over. I seen other videos where this was done. Not sure about prices.

Its a shame you can’t program the app to shut the hose off after a set amount of gallons instead of time that way if you blow a hose it would shut off.

Have u seen these upside down umbrella like things people put on top of tote to catch water? Tote water collectors….
