Great video Tim. Good to see you enjoying yourself. I especially like how you almost managed to hide the grin on your face at 36 seconds in when you said you’d be driving the GT3 😁. I wonder how much difference a decent manual gearbox in the base car would’ve made? It adds so much to the driving experience.
Glad you came to the conclusion you did! It's worth every penny over the base car.. I'm biased.. but there is no doubt that the base car is epic nonetheless.
Brill video Tim, esp GT3 noise (which is surely angels wailing). The actual answer to the question though has to be walk into any Porsche Centre you like an order a 992 GTS RWD manual (possibly in red - yes, just like the one that Harry reviewed...)
I wonder how much Porsche would sell the gt3 buckets for a Carrera. I love how you have driven some incredible machines, but every time behind the wheel of something exciting we get genuine emotion. Btw, it is raupe and wurst
A really good little video. I guess that the problem for the base Carrera, in poverty spec, is that it is out-performed (at least in terms of bragging rights) by a whole host of much cheaper cars, that are also deemed as desirable ….. even an Audi RS3. Whilst the other Porsches are much pricier, ironically they have fewer rivals and are really sought after. It reminds me of the (albeit much cheaper) Ford Capris in my youth. The base 1.3 model had truly abysmal performance but their hooligan siblings at over twice the price were giant slayers.
It depends on "what one values" however if you are talking "cost-to-performance", "I'd" rather have the base @ 90k "UK monies", and add an OEM turbo upgrade, for ~ 7k "UK monies", for 550hp-600hp, and additional torque vs. whatever the GT3 is going for in "UK monies". It "US monies", a base with same turbo upgrade would be less than half of what dealers, as well as what private sellers are changing. I could still upgrade suspension, and wheels if desired, and still be under what the GT3 costs, in either country.
What advantages does this motor car have over say...a train. Which I could also afford. 🤣 But on a more serious note, the noise of the GT3, that N/A flat 6 at 9k RPM has to be high up in the top ten sounds of an internal combustion engine
We all knew about the ‘Preuninger VIP Club’ well before Covid and Ukraine …and now GT cars have just gotten even worse for access. Nods, winks, deals behind closed doors and singularly distasteful speculation just renders all GT3 reviews as rather pointless….IMHO. I suggest it’s now actually cooler and less ‘bellendy’ to have a C2 or an S with a manual box. And a nice PTS. Just saying…😉
It would be great if you could walk into dealer and get either of these cars within a year .. If you're new to Porsche you may never get a gt3 unless you're a regular customer (turning over anew car evey year) or a footballer or some other z lister .. They're as rare as unicorns unless you're on the list
@@TimRodieDrivesStuff You’re probably excited about getting to drive a GT3, I get that, anyone would be. A road trip video would’ve been more enjoyable. Are there mileage and / or geographical restrictions when getting press cars? Genuinely interested. Comparing the value of these two trim levels is like comparing apples to oranges. You can’t walk into a dealership and order a GT3. Let alone expect to pay list price for one 🤑🤑
@@rajjy1976 He set out to compare apples and oranges though and says as much. It’s a price / value thing, not a ‘Which is best’ In most of the world, new cars sell for list, or below if you get a discount. So if you can get a rare allocation here in the UK, you pay Porsche configuration price.
Wrong. The base engine car that owners really use - to work, on long multi day road trips - and a car your wife will agree to ride in for longer than it takes to get to the local cars and coffee/ is obviously the GM base 911. The GT3 is too valuable to beat up on a track and too uncomfortable in terms of ride and noise to take anywhere to a local PCA event with the value of impressing your friends. In your day to day life the base car is the Porsche to own - particularly if you can only own one due to money or garage or your wife’s misplaced value of educating your children. The GT3 is great for a guy with a garage of Porsche vehicles or for the guy who only goes to PCA cars and coffee, short Saturday club drives to lunch or to a concours show and of course it does add an inch to your private parts - 2” if you check that box on the configurator. But the Base 911 - makes you reliable and sensible and let’s face it those are the guys that keep the gals in the end. The GT3 is not versatile enough for a car that you will use for all sorts of driving situations while that Carrera is a car you can use everyday for any reason or length of time and does give you a lot of money left for important options like deviated stitching, leather covered air vents and colored dials and comes with ventilated and heated seats, and you can order sunroofs, and you have rear seats for the small son or grandson, and a front trunk and can be setup as a comfortable but fast car or as a stiff road car. All these reviewers pick the GT3 because they own several more livable sports cars at home and they only test drive this car for short periods of time and without their wives in the passenger seat constantly badgering about the ride, noise and the stiff in adjustable bucket seats. Let’s do a test with your wife in the passenger seat and see how it works out.
I find this really useful and relevant! Only a ‘Small’ difference in price relative to the capability and lols available 🤓 Also, the cooking 911 will slowly depreciate, while an Touring will make you enough to buy a GT4 for ‘Free’ I hardly ever drag race anyone from Birmingham, so a Touring would do the trick for me please 😀
