John didn’t mention that for thousands of years, the only way for people to hear the Word of God was by listening. It’s only in recent history that it is possible for everyone to have their own physical copy.
@@nathanp5711 ai agree completely. A thousand years ago the world could not possibly imagine education systems like we have on such a mass level. We have a very Western and University/education system based answer to this question. Most in history would laugh at this question because most couldn't read for themselves.
AMEN And some people with disabilities can’t sit still enough to read the Bible is it OK to listen to the Bible yes it’s OK regardless of what anybody else says
I use both audio Bible and paper Bible, depends on my situation at the time. They're both good. The important thing is that you're doing at least one of them. That's why I have the David Suchet audio Bible on my channel so that it's easily accessible. The main advantage of the audio Bible is that it's helped with my pronunciation of some of the names and places in the Bible 😁
Glad to hear about people with different brains being mentioned. My ADHD makes reading on my own a real challenge. Putting my head down, closing my eyes, and listening to the Bible (and even better a commentary, like Look at the Book here on DG) is so much more beneficial and permanent for me.
A friend with autism here, i found audio bibles recently better for me than reading. Ive noticed that ive been able to listen for 1 and 30 min to 2 hrs a day. I started doing both and its proved fruitful for me.
I will say this. I got saved after listening to the Gospel of Matthew via RU-vid. Prior to that, I had never read or heard of the Christian Gospel. Now I have my own bible I read daily. Praise the Lord! 😊 God uses different methods to save and get to you. I don’t see why audio bibles should be controversial. If you can read an actual bible, that’s wonderful. However, for those who are illiterate or blind, an audio Bible is a great first option. Even if you’re none of those, simply listening to God’s word is wonderful. The key though is to apply Jesus’ teachings in your life. *There are people out there who read God’s word, collect bibles, but never live the Christian life. They never walk with Jesus. Jesus never knew them.* Regardless if you listen to His word, or read it, PLEASE LIVE IT OUT. God bless ❤️
Glad to have come across this video. While I’m not a truck driver I am a busy mom of 3 young children... more recently I’ve been using the audio version of the Bible so that I can hear the word while I am doing other household/mom duties. I hadn’t realized that this is a concern for other believers. Thankful for the confirmation. This shouldn’t be our only method of plugging in but it is still very helpful to keep us plugged in the word of God.
Thankful for this! Your answer was God sent as I was wrestling with this topic as I started the new year with a Bible reading app that offers options of narration, reading from my phone, reading on my own from the phone or my Bible. So thankful God has put the desires of His Word in my heart!!!
Thanks for APJ! The q&A always seem to be relevant to my Christian walk in one way or another. This format has helped me understand and solidify many doctrinal truths from the scripture, and has been a catalyst for discussion and further study. Thanks also for including this week the sweet words from Joni❣️
I see a lot of hate for the answer but I don’t understand why. He gave both positives and negatives for both reading and listening and encouraged the person asking the question to continue listening while in the truck. Why the hate? Let God judge him for his responses that is not anybody else’s place.
Listening is a great way to read through the whole Bible and see verses in their context. It is also easy to implement because you can do it during your daily tasks. Reading is great to study a particular passage.
I work in a factor and while physical demanding the jobs aren't mentally stimulating. Our boss is kind enough to allow audio devices if we do a good job consistently. So I can listen to the Bible like this truck driver does. Something that helps me is having a wide array. Audio Bible, then once I get a headache I listen to some hymns, then after my mind is rested and my heart is full I'll listen to a sermon. Helps my day be filled with the Lord and my focus is more on Christ. Having a balanced spiritual diet of God pouring into me and me as flawed as I am trying to praise Him for who He is.
When it comes to living in this world, we have to be careful what we watch. Being careful to what we listen to, or who we listen to. Whether it’s in music, tv, or on the internet. Instead of listening to worldly music or listening to a audio book of your favorite stories or movies, listen to Gods Word instead. When you’re listening to God, you’re giving Him your time. When you sit down and read Gods Word, you are using most of your senses. You’re using your eyes to read Gods Word. Your eyes are on Him. You’re using your mouth/lips/tongue, speaking Gods Word, and when you hear yourself reading Gods Word with your ears, you are listening to Gods Word and God is speaking to you.
I have to listen cause whenever I read I don't understand what I'm reading. Listening I can grasp a better understanding. I was always good at school when the teacher would lecture, but learning out of text books I struggled
Listening to His Holy Word is remarkable! I listen to devotionals, testimonials, inspirational videos and sermons. I’m trying to bring myself fully to Him and His profound Glory. Being obedient is a difficult path but worth the price. What is a human life in comparison to eternity?
Half the world cannot read . that is why MegaVoice solar powered audio Bibles are so powerful in bringing God's Word to millions of non readers. Blessings, Bruce from eastern Canada.
Thank you Ps John, I am a big listener, I feed my brain while I sleep (ear phone in 1 ear), in the shower, driving to & from work. I find listening more engaging as it drives my concentration/perception/imagery, whereas reading my mind is prone to wander. Yet, reading tends to allow me to search other resources (when at home) I can consult the commentary, expository dictionary, concordance, alternate/compare versions. The bible is the only book I consider essential and it surprised me when you said some (millions?) people don't value its awesomeness? (Paraphrase) Brothers & sisters, it's all we have, it's a letter from God Himself. I've always had the thirst (when seeking God) so I find it foreign some don't, almost unbelievable. Don't get me wrong, I'm the 'black sheep' of the fold, I'm very inconsistent, tossed to and fro, easily distracted, so I'm not judging anyone. We won't know God if we don't read His gospel, 20mins a day will have it done in around a year. Remember, it's the words of the Lord Jesus that are our forever, get to know Him.
Very good insights. I think, as John Piper says, that it is best not to only listen to the Bible. Better to do some reading too. But most Christians can still gain a huge amount by listening.
For anyone who'd like to find a good audio bible, try downloading Dwell It has different readers, versions(one is in spanish), and it has background music(piano, hymns, ambient, guitar, piano and cello, no music) I really love it because I can limit the amount of verses I want to hear and there's different playlists(bunch of verses mixed together) like encouragements in scripture and God's peace
I'm reading the Bible through in a year. I am reading daily and then later I listen as I'm doing dishes or laundry. I feel like listening is better than nothing and reading is better than listening for most people. But some people, like my 11 yro son have a hard time absorbing information while reading. So he is "listening" to the Bible in a year. I think this is an acceptable alternative.
Pay close attention as you read that the Bible says God is 1 person, but the "churches" say he is 3. You have a great advantage over "teachers" by reading the Bible yourself.
Great point! A lot of people have troubles for a variety of reasons with reading. There can be a lot of challenges. In this case I'd say getting the bible audibly is an excellent way to consume it! Because you otherwise wouldnt. Personally I read and listen. But there are days I am grateful for audio. Because some days are so hectic that if I'm being honest I might not get to hear the words of scripture otherwise. We have to make Gods word a priority. The thing is we never stop learning every time we read the word. So whether we read or listen we wont get it all in at one time. That's why we study for the rest of our lives. Read the bible and then do it again.
I do better when I'm listening to the Bible, not reading. I can read, but it's slow, and by the time I finished a page I've already forgotten what I just read from the beginning to middle maybe more so of the page.
Preaching has it's place but I agree. However we have to be careful not to do the same and try to shove our own un-Biblical theories in when we read. Especially if we're alone because outside of the spirit we don't have anyone but ourselves to reproof our inevitable mistakes. The body of Christ is important for a reason, we need each other.
I like to read along with the audio Bible if possible so I can highlight sections, bookmark etc. It helps me visualize it better, remember more, and helps with words you don't know how to pronounce. Overall I think there's more advantages.
IF YOU’RE NOT BLIND OR UNABLE, THEN JUST BE YOU AND PROMOTE THE GOSPEL TO EVERY CREATURE AS INSTRUCTED. YOUR SUBCONSCIOUS CAN DEVELOP IF YOUR CONSCIOUS MIND LOSES FOCUS. WATER YOUR MIND WITH ALL THE WORD. WE PLANT THE SEED AND WATER THE SEED BUT GOD MAKES IT GROW.
Desiring God should consider posting their content on BitChute. BitChute is RU-vid's biggest competitor right now and it's growing. People are moving over to that platform because of the this platform's behavior recently had been awful - banning people left and right.
Would there be exceptions for people who are unable to read a physical Bible due to disability or illiteracy or does this answer just pertain to reading while driving? Just curious.
Dear Sir's, I've taken to playing the bible as I read. So, do I benefit more if I listen, while I read. I often wondered, like Robert who questioned about listening, while he drove, if it was. alright with God if I listen while I lay back meditating.
I always wondered this because I listen to audio while at work. But I tend to space out sometimes when listening. Reading for me i feel like I'm receiving it more...at the same time I need to be fed so I try to do what I can if I can't read anyway even if I space out
LET YOUR SUBCONSCIOUS LISTEN. IF YOU LOSE CONSCIOUS FOCUS THEN ALLOW THE SUBCONSCIOUS TO TAKE OVER. THESE BOZOS DO NOT REALIZE THAT DRIVING IS MUSCLE MEMORY ACTIVITY. YOU CAN BOTH FOCUS LEARN AND DRIVE WITH BOTH OF YOUR MINDS!
It hurts my soul when I hear people say universe science fiction created the universe God created the heavens and the earth. I’m not just saying this just to say it I don’t hear god say universe. The ruler of this age has blinded us
"The heavens and the earth" refers to the entirety of creation both the immaterial and material. the universe is just the entire physical part of creation. it isn't scifi but the entire physical 'heavens' much in the same way that the bible doesn't have the word dinosaur yet has God giving a description in job of the Behemoth which could only have been a ssauropod. the behemoth is a dinosaur as the universe is the physical heavens of creation. There are far more problematic issues today than a modern rendition of a word.
Buddy, i dont know what situation you in but think about this verse, Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? Romans 8:35 ESV If you love god and trust in Jesus alone, not what you did. nothing can seperate you from the love of God
It depends if the christian is continiously falling in repetitive sin, willingly. Sin pulls us away from God , especially sexual sin or pleasurable sin, it becomes an idol and our focus shifts toward it rather than God. Ithis however isnt what causes the Holy Spirit to leave you. However there is one sin that cannot be forgiven which is called "sinning against the Holy Spirit" which is i think in the book of acts if i remember correctly. Continious and deliberate (deliberate being the key word in this case) sin causes the Holy Spirit to leave, but then again if you are born with the Holy Spirit and the truly listen to it and willingly battle against your sin and sinful nature then the Holy spirit would embolden you in the act of fighting against sin. that being said we do not receive our redemtion through our works but we are called to be holy as Christ is holy and to live without sin in thankfulnes to Christ. That is why if people say i can sin and do what i want because i am forgiven i start questioning their conversion. Their view is a twisting of scripture and the Gosel just as paul warns us of in Romans
I may have a a mistake but if i do please correct me, it is very imortant to remember that our conversion and faith should not be measured by our emotional state cause emotions are fleeting and do not correctly correlate between the redemption of our souls and our faith, but our faith may invoke joy and serenity, even though it may only last for a while
13 In Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation--having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise, 14 who is given as a pledge of our inheritance, with a view to the redemption of God's own possession, to the praise of His glory. Ephesians 1:13-14, NASB Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Ephesians 4:30, NASB Here's an article RC Sproul wrote about the doctrine of perseverance of the saints: www.ligonier.org/blog/tulip-and-reformed-theology-perseverance-saints/ We who are truly saints will Not have the seal of our salvation taken from us; The opposite of this statement is also true because if they truly weren't Christians, then they'll walk away eventually when persecution or other worldly things are more appealing. Seek the Lord in prayer and ask for forgiveness for the things that were more important (seemingly) than Him and thank Him for His grace, mercy, and promised open arms upon our return. I should know, I did the same last night. I'll pray for you, Rolf. Peace be with you
Why did someone say that the Bible is the mark of the beast I listen to the Bible through audio almost all the time to help me and when I saw a video of this man and his wife saying the Bible is the mark of the beast it really threw me off
short answer: no an audio Bible is better than nothing but no in my experience and for me no nowhere nearly as spiritually beneficial as reading yourself
