Is an expensive rig in BeamNG Worth it?

BeamNG's physics are great, but it has a flaw with not circular wheels, and this gives the worst force feedback ever lol so what if I combine it with some of the best sim gear on the market?
the shifter, though thoroughly flawed, I'd still recommend it for the price. It can be found easily on amazon
the pedals are fanatec fanatec.com/au-en/pedals/club... but I'd suggest getting the "CSL Elite Pedals V2" instead
the wheelbase is the "Moza R9 V2", it's high quality (much more than fanatec), and the force feedback is enough for normal sims, but maybe not for beamng's erroneous force feedback mozaracing.com/wheel-base-r9
the wheel is the "Moza GS GT" and it's pretty good, though I'd strongly suggest going for the leather option - mozaracing.com/gt-steering-wh...

@@fillman86 mine is a real jank wood one, and the vertical planks (that go up to where the wheel connects) can be pushed side to side with very little effort :) oh and one of the support beams split at the screw and is taped to the rig now lol

Tbh I'm kinda sad to see so many people going for Moza when something like VRS is just a much better option at a similar price point. Just so you know, inverted pedals are solid if you're driving mostly street cars, though race cars almost universally have floor-mounted pedals. Also with your DIY spirit you should look into designing your rig out of custom length 80/20 aluminum. I designed my own in 3DS Max and put it together, and it's fantastic. I'll be building a new one soon because I didn't design for anything besides my very specific setup, so I'd recommend building around a standard part like for instance the Advanced Sim Racing PRO wheel mount instead of building it so your hardware directly mounts to the frame.

Also, 12nm kinda has you wanting more for sure. Really wish I wiffed for a 16nm. Though my coffee PC desk would’ve hated me for it as it already does with the current setup.

I love the Group 5 Moonhawk I've only recently gotten into track stuff coming from drifting and such while I'm just working with a controller atm, and love my newer cars with amazing grip and ABS the Group 5 Moonhawk is so much fun to mess around with! As challenging it may be for someone like me taking TCS and ABS for granted lol.

You can put some rubber bands or hair ties around the base of the shifter , where it contacts with the gate , it deadens the sound and makes the shifting feel a bit better

I recommend the SHH shifter, the 7th gen just about dropped and the shifter is perfect (possible even built) for places where you have to be quiet. Plus a built in sequential. double plus its also the same price of the shifter you already bought. Edit: Look at "Douglas Thompson's SHH Shifter" Review, he goes over it and says its quiet too.

interesting, it's over double what I payed for my shifter, and seemingly not available to australia, but it does look much prettier, and probably feels better too. All whilst being much cheaper than the bigger competition the only advantage there it to my low quality shifter is it's easy to buy, much cheaper, 7 speed option, and switching to sequential seems to have less steps (though much uglier)

There is quite a big chance that the force feedback is inverted, so if it is, at least you can change that in the force feedback settings. Also, I think that a wheel cam and maybe even a foot cam would acually be better for when your racing rather than a face cam (No offence towards your face, but it is nice to be able to see the wheel cam, as I already sometimes automatically look at the corner with the wheel rotation and pedals.) Also, for the buffer people, moza also made a 24nm wheel, tho its kinda overkill. Lol this became a paragraph, I just kept editing it throughout the video

haha I won't be doing a foot cam any time soon, and I don't think I need it as what you meantioned, there's read out on screen. My technique isn't that great, and my floor is really messy lol

My g920 had pedal issues too. Taking apart the potentiometer and cleaning it then putting it back together and tightening up the connectors fixed it, for a little while. Thinking it was just a connection issue because sometimes touching the brake or clutch would make it fluctuate, I put a blob of solder (so I could melt it away later) over the connections and that still didn't fix it. So it's just the potentiometer in the pedal assembly being garbage. Funnily enough I reversed my wires just for giggles one of the times I reconnected it (I had them apart often for this issue) so I had the opposite issue. Mine would have a sticky pedal, always partly on unless I tapped it and let it slap back up. XD Was like actually driving the older cars I often use, but still quite annoying. Kinda sucks, cause it's the only issue I had was the pedals.

I cleaned out the pedal twice, and it just got worse quicker each time :/ As for the shifter, it's much worse logitech does make the best feeling wheels, but their quality is from when their system was first designed in the 90s (only revisions since then)

Though the asymmetrical L-brackets was certainly unique to me(even being accidental), I'm not sure how long rusty ones will last (I've never worked with steel regarding building and welding so maybe I'm wrong on that). The shifter and wheel look nice though! 👍

lol that's only surface rush, plus it's like 10x thicker than any bracket a manufacturer would sell.... but I only did that so it'd be easier to weld, not that it needed to be that stronk

Reduce the FFB strength in BeamNG and keep it 100% in Moza's software to prevent any clipping. Also get a cheap round wheel and NRG style quick release for a round wheel option.

A suggestion when driving, try to keep 3 fingers on the wheel and use 1 finger for shifting, not the other way around

Fillman If you want a cheap (ish) round steering wheel I would look into getting a wheel from someone like Sparco, then use the adaptor Moza sells.

I guess that it's just about it feeling like "a clutch" and not anything specific, every single car is failry distinct from each other anyways. Can't say anything for race clutches and stuff thoose might be more tactile, but i wouldn't have the experience to know XD

Maybe make a new wheel for it using an actual aftermarket wheel would be an improvement considering the cheap feeling wrap on the original, and also youd get an entire wheel and thatd be way more realistic for beam in general since so few of the cars use that kind of shape

Hey fillman, if you need some help with the settings of the moza wheel with beamng I could help you. Basically take out all assists on the moza pit house but leave some wheel friction (25%), to me these settings feel nice in all type of cars and types of driving (trucking, drifting, racing). Then you can set the force and smoothing on Beamng to you liking ! Cheers!

its funny, I currently also have a Logitech wheel I bought used like a decade ago now it seems thats also having issues with its shifter not hitting the right gear (the 6 speed stick tho, not the paddles) and am planning to replace it with a Moza setup 😆

apparently it's good if you have lots of force feedback, and it's also good with this kind of alcantara grip material. I've always had tough skin though, so I don't get hand or foot skin ware like others

Another thing with the g920 or similar steering wheel and pedal rigs have issues with staying still because the rubber legs slide too easily

Not only flexing with the welding skillz, but also flexing his manly muscles over powering that beefy steering wheel. Geez, thing looks like a trap from the Saw movies compared to the Logitech one. If you can weld, wouldn't you be better off building a entire rig frame from scratch that perfectly fits your needs rather than slapping new bits on an old one?

this rig was made by me from scratch. I only modded it so I could have the pedals inverted :) the problem is that small box section isn't enough for this amount of torque anymore, and I'm not good at making things square lol

lol handbrakes on ebay are quite good, and affordable. Plus I'm keeping it in case I race in Gran Turismo in the future (new rig isn't compatible with play station, which is why it's cheaper than others)

I did a course when I was young. I can mig weld dimes if I need to, but I'm using flux core for its lower price, and it comes out a little booger-ey. Though the look of the weld isn't that important in this application :)

Fill, you okay? You sure this was a good idea? Jokes aside, i hope it didn't end up feeling like wasted money, you don't seem like the harcore sim type of guy who would spend this much. Please don't break your fingers with it XD Edit: adding deadzone to the wheel is a horrible mistake, your problem is the formula rim wich isn't friendly to coupes and less race-ish or older race cars. If you want to change the steering do it from the parts menu and select a race steering box for better wheel angle

the pedals aren't as good and cost effective, and even if not used, the V2 by fanatec are said to be better and cheaper. The shifters are either H or sequential, and more expensive than this shifter that is both
