There does seem to be more women riding lately (and racing), but motorcycling in the UK is a dying sport/hobby to an extent. I don't think it'll ever die out completely, but there is a clear downward trend in the number of people riding. Like you touched on it has become too expensive to learn to ride in comparison to driving a car, and the licensing system is too convoluted as well. It used to be the case that riding a bike was vastly cheaper than driving a car, but there's not that much of a difference in the cost these days. I feel lucky to have experienced motorcycling in the 2000's, it was a much different paradigm back then. These days it seems to be all about old boys on overpriced ADV bikes religiously spouting the highway code everywhere they go, really no wonder that young people aren't excited by motorcycles like they used to be.
Great points. I was surprised the other day when I called my local bike mechanic to find out he's only in the garage 3 days a week now and is working 2 jobs because of how little business he's getting. Sad downtrend on bikes recently. But I can't blame anyone, I'm going off it a little too, weather is always crap and everything is expensive as well!
The person who taught me to ride a motorcycle at my msf course was a 60 year old woman. Its definitely a male dominated hobby but I think its less dominated than you think it is. However, its not a bad thing this hobby is male dominated, people who complain about motorcycles being to male heavy are just silly. I think this hobby is male dominated because woman just naturally dislike driving more than men. Most of the woman i know dont even have a drivers license. their reasoning for not having one is that roads are scary, people driving are idiots, and i dont want to die. Valid reasons enough to not drive so its obvious that they would'nt then go learn to ride a motorcycle. It is not at all mens fault that there are less woman riders. I havent had first hand experience with the "woke mob" targeting motorcyclists. If what you experience is mostly just people online being idiots i wouldn't drum it up to "the left hates motorcycles". I would say motorcycle hate isnt a left/right issue, People on both sides love to ride motorcycles. Im on the left, i ride one. Most of the idiots you see complaining about this are just that, idiot's. (Sorry for the essay idk why i care so much)
Mmm, I didn't explain it well in the vid because was busy riding, but in my head I'm thinking about all the other hobbies/interests that get taken over by the woke mob, like movies, comics, politics, video games, even now WH40K is tilting that way a little. And it's interesting that cars/trains/bikes etc is going to remain a "no girls allowed zone" by the looks of it
There needs to be more incentives for women to get involved. I hate the fact the average male rider is 54 now and that will keep going up. Is motorcycles a hobby? I juse it just for transport just like the koreans and chinese do
Is it actually 54? That's insane. That being said, whenever I turn up at a biker place, i'm usually the youngest one there and I'm 30. So that's probably true
