In today’s video, I talk through 6 ESSENTIAL questions to ask yourself if you’re contemplating having Botox as it can be really helpful to have a framework for approaching treatments when you’re unsure.
Botox is undoubtedly the treatment I do the most of in the clinic and whilst injectables can seem scary when considering trying them for the first time, when done well Botox just makes you look like the best version of yourself - without the tension!
When debating whether to have Botox or start your journey, patients often have a lot of questions about when Botox is right for them and whether it is the right treatment.
As always, thank you so much for watching and for all your support!

Important note coming from both of my doctors, a surgeon who removed my thyroid gland and endocrinologist: people with certain health issues CANNOT get botox! It reduces the efficiency of hormonal supplement I am using. Check out with your medical experts if you have a certain health issue before considering any skin care procedure.

Hello. I have never had Botox before, but was just wondering, how effective is Botox at stopping fasciculations? I’ve been having twitching in both of my calves for the last 7 months, and would Botox be an effective treatment to stop this?

Signing up for Dr. Sam’s program is the best thing I’ve done for my skin. Just waiting for her products. I recently burned my face off with applying several ACTIVES over and over again until my face was on fire. Now I am learning how to care for my skin. I just may even get Botox after my skin grows back. Lol. Dumb in America

Ah tank you. I am 26 and started retinol a year ago because of acne. Now I have all these lines in my face that I dont know if is because of the retinol or something else. No older woman in my family had these deep lines this early in life, they also all smoke so it is so weird to me why I do and how the appeared so quickly and early. Now I am deeply considering botox

Are you consistently using sunscreen? By consistently, I mean every day and applied twice per day or more if you live in a sunny city? Retinol (especially prescription retinoid) makes your skin more sensitive to sunlight and may exacerbate sun damage and early ageing when not properly combined with a good sunscreen (at least 30+ but preferably 50+).

Hey, i know it's a bit of a late response but I started using retinol and from not having ANY wrinkles I got 4 HUGE wrinkles on my forehead. This happened within 4 months from starting retinol. I stopped using it and now my forehead looks much better but still not as good as it was. After that I read other people's stories about the same issue. I would like to know how could this happen when retinol should help with wrinkles.

@amiramarwa1

I had the same issue and immediately stopped after one month. It could be your skin is already super dry and need to take extra care to hydrate. I admit I was negligent and I still believe retinol is good but needs to be done properly. I recommend a healthy lifestyle, lots of water and maybe Botox just for temporary time. Hope this helps

Hi Dr Sam, I use most of your products plus prescription Tretinoin. I have a vey heavy deep frown line. I’ve had Botox in the past and it does soften the line slightly. Unfortunately the line is almost scar like now, what else would meek it look better. I was on a zoom call a few days ago and someone said they thought I’d had an accident that caused a scar on my forehead. I know it doesn’t look great but this really upset me. Any suggestions would be very appreciated. Thank you

Fantastic video! I'm seeing my derm next week to possibly get a different retinoid, so I might ask him about Botox. My nasolabial folds have bothered me for a while, especially since starting Zoom calls with the unflattering light in my office.

Be careful of the Zoom distortion factor - I'm seeing so many patients who've had way too much feedback from looking at themselves on a camera this last year and a half and it's ravaged their self-confidence. Make your bathroom mirror kind with good lighting and use this as your reference point!

It needs to be reassessed frequently as time goes on - if anything, I tend to find a treat with less rather than more as patients age.

Do you believe in preventative Botox I started at 18 and I’m 27 now I love it
@maggyabc6627
@maggyabc6627 2 года назад
It's proofen that starting Botox in time works presentative. You can "win" ten years. But that means constantly using it every 3-4 months your whole life. But I think 18 is too early or necessary. Maybe start at 30-35. My mom started really late with 55 but the result is beautiful too.
@HollyL56
@HollyL56 2 года назад
@@maggyabc6627 I can’t imagine someone at 18 getting botox. Goodness. I’m almost 54 and never had it. At 18 the last thing I was thinking of is aging. We live in such a strange time where anti aging has really gone a bit overboard.
@PsycheandButterfly
@PsycheandButterfly 2 года назад
@@HollyL56, The thought of an 18-year-old getting botox every few months to prevent ageing that will not be visible for years is strange to me, too. Also, it sounds exhausting and potentially risky, etc., to upkeep that for decades. At that age, why not take preventative measures by looking after well-being and applying topicals first? In theory, we need to practise ageing healthily and happily rather than this strict anti-ageing trend. The truth is the "anti-ageing camp" is problematic, and we could benefit from a change in popular perspective/theory on this. And I say this as someone who is not anti-cosmetic surgery/procedure.
@HollyL56
@HollyL56 2 года назад
@@PsycheandButterfly I agree with you 100% and wasn’t very clear on my last post. I’m all for taking care of myself and doing things to keep my skin in good condition etc. I’m also not against it if someone chooses to have any kind of procedure, to each his/her own. I do think we live in a society though that is pushing things to an extreme and it is showing in how the younger generation is reacting to it. There are so many ways to keep a young persons skin in good condition, no smoking, sunscreen, diet, good skincare etc., but botox and injectables at such a young age and the revolving door it is starting, well I just personally find that rather sad.
@PsycheandButterfly
