I didn’t realize beans on toast was something people actually ate. I thought it was just one of those things people said when making fun of British food for being kind of a hodgepodge of ingredients
@@sashimi8187 that’s the whole point back in the day there wasn’t much food people lived off the land what in the uk is pretty selective it’s why we love potatoes so much
American chef: "How can I make this burger more unhealthy? Ah! How about if I swap the burger bun for a sugared doughnut, then dunk it in batter, and deep fry it."
Starch on starch, unhealthy AF. And the reason for the stewed or grilled tomatoes on their breakfast menu is because they didn't have citrus during the war and the Queen mandated that tomatoes be included in everyone's breakfast. I never did understand bthe mushrooms though, for breakfast.
I don't feel like any of that... can be honestly called food...;;; It's like the British just sort of take whatever's on hand and eat it exactly as it is with zero effort or changes. X'D The whole continent just eating like a boy who's only now moved out of his mother's house...
I kinda thought that about American food, mostly because of congealed salads (which I learnt earlier today that it was once popular...somewhere on Earth) which I tend to see a lot in american cartoons (mostly festive/family events)..........I realised that the whole world is like that...I don't know how people *still* eat those things tho....like the thousand year egg? That swedish fish? Now that I've thought about it, all delicacies of the world seem weird....
@@606aichan7O7 and thousand year old egg is a traditional chinese cuisine. Not everyone can enjoy it, but people who do really love it. For me i am partial to it and dont mind eating it, however my favourite egg is still salted duck eggs.
Yea they have deliberately picked the worst foods to show you :p Well, except cheese on toast. That's the best. But more of a breakfast food than a full meal.
I think korea's equivolent of beans on toast is 간장계란밥(egg&soy sauce with rice). You mix rice, soy sauce, sesame oil and egg with undercooked yolk so that the yolk can work as a sauce that goes well with rice. It tastes great, is easy to make, and cheap.
Like America are the height of world cuisine?? Most everything you eat is either deep fried chicken, burgers, pizza, or hot dogs. Smothered in processed squeezy cheese or ketchup.
It isn't they are just heavily misrepresenting British food with the worst/least effort food they could. The best/most well known British foods are Fish and Chips, traditional English Breakfast, Cottage/Shepherds Pie, Beef Stew, a traditional Sunday's Roast. These would've actually took effort and money to make so instead they chose to misrepresent english food.
France, champion of the diversity of cheeses : fr.statista.com/infographie/17507/les-pays-avec-la-plus-grande-diversite-de-fromages-selon-les-igp-et-aop-enregistrees/ we don’t even know how many cheeses we have.
Hmmm, I'd consider these are more in the realm of student meals/drunk meals/hangover meals/batchelor meals/lazy meals. I'm not British, but when I think of British food, things that come to mind are a good fry up, shepherds or cottage pie (which I douse with Worcestershire sauce, mmmm), beef Wellington, bangers & mash, a classic Sunday roast with Yorkshire pudding, fish, chips & mushy peas (nicer than the variety you had there, though, haha!), Cornish pasties, steak & kidney pie (I wouldn't eat that one, myself... Steak and onion would be good, though). And if you includes desserts, then trifle or Eton mess, strawberries with cream in summer, sticky toffee pudding... Not sure why I'm defending someone else's cuisine, haha! But there ya go, there's some good to be found :P
Omg I’m rly pleasantly suprised at how much u know abt uk food considering ur not British. Weirdly makes me feel rly happy ahahah…. First time I’ve seen someone talk about something to do w the uk that isn’t pure stereotypes etc etc
I am an American but grew up with mostly British influences in my life, so my Mom (who is an accomplished cook) would make Beans on Toast for us on Fridays. My siblings and I absolutely loved it!
It often happens. I live in france and you would be surprised how many people have never ever eaten any "escargot" during their lives. Most people actually.
Worcestershire sauce actually shows up quite often as a dip to some Hong Kong Dim Sum, steamed beef balls, spring rolls, fried bean curd rolls… try some one time and you may love it!
Worcestershire sauce is amazing. I actually make a pasta sauce that is essentially a thinner rarebit sauce, but with Scotch whiskey instead of ale, a heavy Worcestershire element, chervil, and caramelized onions and serve it over rotini, then I sprinkle finely chopped fresh chives on top. It's really good, and reasonably priced if you already have the Scotch lying around, and have easy access to chervil. If you want a meat to go inside of it, I'd recommend a strong, but soft meat such as slow-cooked beef heart, mutton, or goat.
I don’t get that either. The point of Sunday dinner is putting a roast in all day while you go to church or whatever. It’s a hands-off food. Why do the English go out for it?
Times like this, I wish I could speak Korean to explain that there is a lot better British food than this. This is just some of the more common British food because a lot of people can't cook that well.
I am an American, born and raised in rural Georgia. I watched this video, laughing at the British food. All the while, I was eating my dinner: a mayonnaise and banana sandwich.
Vosk Velcrow my Husband actually likes mushy peas. He studied in the uk for 4 years and he’s Indian and vegetarian and said it’s hard to get good vegetarian food, so literally lived off mushy peas and yam...lots and lots of yam.
I tried beans on toast just now, and honestly it's pretty good. It fills you up, easy to cook, and tastes decent. I don't get the meme around how beans on toast is an abomination, I actually quite like it lol
I don't like how they are sweet. I live in the southwest US, and our beans are savory, mostly cooked with bacon, or some kind of pork, with onions, garlic, beer, etc. A warm, fresh tortilla with beans, yum!
1:54 I laughed so hard at this esp. when you know how Gabbie and Josh met for the first time: Josh holding a tinfoil batch full of instant fire noodles "Does this look good?"
There's some great British foods though. Full English breakfast, bangers and mash, beef wellington, sunday roast, toad in the hole, faggots, shepherds pie, ... there's a bunch of puddings and pies that aren't half bad either.
@@ClaraRenway They have made a bunch of videos with good British food, both on this channel and on the Korean Englishman channel. They made one about English breakfast on this channel and a bunch on their other channel where they introduce English food to Korean celebrities and they obviously choose good food for that. Edit: they also made a video about weirdly named British dishes and that was good food as well, they had like bangers and mash, toad in the hole, pigs in blankets etc.
English breakfast is pretty good, for like, once in a while y’know? But it’s kinda sad that the best English breakfast I’ve had was in Amsterdam... simply because it was seasoned 😬
In Norway, whenever we go n some kind of family trip, maybe to our cabin, who knows.. We always have beans on toast. Except we have it in a little baguette instead. I hate beans, but everyone else LOVES it. We also have "pea stew", which I believe is your "mushy peas", but I'm not sure. But our "pea stew" is delicious. You have it with meatballs and sausages and such. Ahh, it's so good.
I'm from the Czech republic and we (probably as everyone in Europe) learn British English in school and I remember when we were discussing English cuisine many years ago our teacher was showing us some typical English food and stargazy pie was one of them. So it's actually quite a pleasant surprise to learn now that it's not that common in Britain haha
Wow, that’s interesting… it’s actually not very well known in Britain! It’s very much a speciality of a small fishing village in Cornwall. I’ve yet to taste it myself, but I really want to…
Stargazy pie was created as a result of extreme poverty in a little Cornish village. When a series of severe storms kept the fishing boats in harbour one winter, they were left with almost nothing to eat. So they put together all their remaining scraps of food and made a pie. Later versions of the pie were decorated with mackerel heads sticking out.
I really love your channels and I love learning about different cultures yet when I see your videos about England I can't help but be disappointed. As I'm English myself I understand this is supposed to be funny but I know that to an outside audience it is suggested that England is a backwards and uncultured country and it is rarely positive! I am not patriotic by any stretch but it would be nice to see people from other countries as interested in England as they are in your Korea videos etc and not just think it's a place of awful weather, awful company! I personally find the videos funny but it would be nice to do a video of proper English food- a roast dinner, casserole, beef wellington, steak and ale pie etc ❤️
Also as a fellow Brit. I whole heartedly agree. The food shown in this video does not represent the UK. I'm not patriotic but I am offended with the lack of real Brisith food.
I agree with this. I'm American, but for the nearly 15 years I've lived in the UK I've found the bad food reputation is not really fair. There are plenty of good foods to choose from. Sure, there are a lot of traditional foods that look a bit boring or have odd names but a lot of them are decent if done well, and there are lots of modern dishes and restaurants that are excellent. That being said, you don't have to be born in the UK to appreciate beans on toast, I'd say. Add a bit of cheese or a fried egg and plenty of butter on the toast and it gets better as well, despite not looking very appetising.
Andy taking a shot of Worcestershire sauce on his own initiative but refusing to touch the mushy peas kind of answers the question being posed - "is British food really that bad?"
I love beans on toast! From the Philippines here! At home, we eat beans with toast or sometimes our breakfast bread called pan de sal and fluffy scrambled eggs.
