I absolutely LOVE the vibe of this video. This kinda stuff hasn't been done in GD before really, and you absolutely nailed it. Please don't have any doubt about whether it worked or not, because in my eyes at least, the way the video is framed with the intro and setting and everything makes it 1000x better

Dramas are made over meaningless shit because not much can be taken from such a simple game, so they have to feed the beast with anything they can (it gets cringy af). Do the best thing you can, don't even bother on reading any media about gd and play the levels you like or do whatever makes you happy there, be a fucking autistic if necessary but it's a game where it's only you and the leve, and nothing else matters.

You guys should not frame it like that. Imo this is not a drama (yet), rather it's still just a discussion. I think it is to prevent any further drama even. These people are having some miscommunication, they want to clarify in public and are still respectful of others. If these videos don't exist, there might be even more conflicts in the future when these people interact, which can divide the entire gd community. Then that's a drama.
What in the classy cafe bar vibe is this video? I like this video. There should be more of this. Anyway, an actual opinion on this, I do like how this video gives out consecutive criticism to someone's opinions as to how they view cherryteam. I personally think most of the grudge that people have towards the team, it's mostly them having a grudge against Vernam. (Admittingly, they've shown to not be a good person from the tweets they share. so lol.) I think NothingIsScary interprets the team the best: "The team is not represented well by Vernam, but they've proven that they can definitely make good levels." And I actually very much agree with this.
I am kinda way too late cuz i need a bit of time to digest the entire situation :v I initially sided with Wherwin but I think my opinion is about to change. To me Wherwin is someone that I held in high regards as his video on artistic criticism seems more mature and in a collected manner than many other channels’ videos at the time. So when I saw that video, I was tempted to support him. But as I watch this video I realized that he might have let his anger get the better of him, something that he himself tried to avoid, as he said in his video on art criticism. He couldn’t see the situation from other side’s perspective. And that’s not entirely his fault since the other side’s opinions are quite ambiguous(*). But when he said Cherry team will *NEVER* create a masterpiece, or there’s No creative passion AT ALL, or… whatever he said at 7:35 in his video (I cannot quote since my english isn’t quite good enough, but this part is really extreme). When he said that I was kinda baffled and tbh I felt for Cherry team cuz do they really deserve such a torrent of angry words? And what’s the point of all that mumbo jumbo? Ngl I felt pretty disappointed in him and he really should have mince his words. (*) But the other side isn’t innocent either. For Culuc’s tweet, I was confused when he said someone was “the least qualified”, like what does he mean? Were their decoration the worst thing ever or did they have absolutely no understanding on art? I think at this point Culuc is similar to Wherwin in that they both should not have made such overstatements. And for Vernam, he is a _rather special case_ for me. Firstly, people did not take into account the fact that he is NOT a native English speaker, therefore some of his statements might be confusing and should be treated with caution (I am not a native speaker either, so I feel for him). And another problem is that the (presumably) first time he speaks to Wherwin, he said “you are not the fucking gangster/ I am the gangster/ I fuck your video” (Wherwin’s video at 4:15, where he also emphasized Vernam’s accent and I was like BRUHHHH(actually he did that accent throughout his entire video for Vernam's words)). Until now I understand that yes, Vernam IS the fucking Gangster. It is his style, his way of behaving and talking to others. In retrospective, Idek why I did not realized that, I mean looking at his pfp or his photos, or the way he “flaunt his status”. He may come across as aggressive and violent even, but I know that he’s not, as I saw him interact with others on livestreams (with Dorami for example) and he’s actually a nice guy. Even on the stream when he and Wherwin talk to each other, he threw a total of 0 profanity or slur directed at Wherwin (at least that’s what I see from the clips). For someone who believes art is not objective like Wherwin, I think if he knew this he would be somewhat more tolerable to Vernam. I can understand why Vernam is consistently being misunderstood by Wherwin, since he made such a first impression. For what he meant, I think you summed it up pretty well here. All in all, this is a pretty silly situation and from my perspective, every party involved is partly responsible and these three should settle with each other directly. No more short tweets or ambiguous languages. And they should understand where each other came from as well. In the end, I highly doubt they will come to terms when talking about art criticism, but they will at least be on better terms with each other . . .
Lol sorry for a lot of text -(I did not spend the entire evening on this one lol)- Just something I want to point out, the interview is way too long imo :v But if it’s necessary for Culuc to find the perfect wording ig it’s worth the time. This is a very well constructed video. This video had way more thought put into it compared to Wherwin's video and plus the points you made were much better and more thought out than Wherwin's points. You should def do more videos like this:)
Im commenting this before finishing the video but imo some people just need to let others remake levels. this is a game, just let people have fun and make whatever level they want, it doesnt matter if its "past its prime" or not. Anyways this video is so cool, amazing work
I think you should interview Helpegasus, since he’s worked for both CherryTeam and Mindcap, and I think he would have good insight into what makes their levels different.
i guess what people are telling when spreading hate against cherry team is that they monopolize a large part of the megacollabs. take the 2023 awards for example. cherry team was the only one with more than 3 levels nominated. and about the tidal wave remake, it's the same thing. when people saw that culuc announced the remake, they got such a hype because of that, but the responses saying that it's a cherryteam collab made them feel like every upcoming top 1 is a cherryteam megacollab
In the 2023 awards there were only THREE (no more, no less) Cherry Team collabs. And maybe they got there because they were one of the BEST levels of the year? (IMO Cytokinesis should have won the award, it's literally the best collab to this day). And about monopoly. This is not entirely true (not at all), Purgatory and MindCap prove this well. (+if a team makes many levels a year, this does not make them a monopoly). Even if it were a monopoly, think about the reason. They simply won this race because they were more attractive to creators. (If you get there you will have: connections, promotion, skill growth (feedback from the best creators) and many, many other advantages). I hope you understand what I mean, because I used Google translator, and sometimes it translates incorrectly.
@@gmdksaz i agree with you. i have a very divided opinion on this. while i think that some of their collabs just exist to keep their names relevant, i highly enjoy their work and dedication, because some of the best creators are part of the team (not demeaning the other members, they are as important as the most talented ones, since they make the rest of the level combine with those parts). but in my point of view, i think that collabs like waterfall, kocmoc unleashed are really unnecessary, because it makes me feel like they want to make levels only with russian songs (i really don't know what are the origins of those songs, so please take this as a generalization), even though this statement is much likely to be wrong, which i prefer to believe it is. briefly, i like cherry team and enjoy their levels, but i'm always a little behind on this
@@foguitopo The idea of KOCMOC and Waterfall appeared a long time ago, back in the summer of 2021, and these are only 2 levels with Russian songs (and these songs are good in my opinion) from 15-17 cherry collabs. To say that Waterfall is an unnecessary level just because of the music... You look like you hate Russian culture, because there is essentially nothing wrong with this music. Well, it turned out that the level is Russian music and so what, it won’t make it worse or better. Waterfall is truly a masterpiece level and to say that it is unnecessary... There may be too much repetitive text, but you really shocked me with your opinion about Waterfall.
i hate the argumet that tidal wave is good enough already so it dosent need a re make so was bloodbath but bloodlust still was made and is now one of the most beloved lvls in gd history i dont think we can say that the tidal wave remake is bad or not needed until it fully comes out
They started remaking Tidal Wave because they wanted it to get rated not just because they wanted to make a quick cash grab. They even said that they want it rated.
Agreed, and while I like the video as a whole what is the point of the interview? There’s practically no way to verify his claims, especially in regard to being paid for parts, and he’s obviously not going to say anything that would make the team look bad. I’m not calling him a liar but I don’t think taking a single guy at their word is good journalism
I really hate the WHErin video,he clearly shows off he have a problem with vernam more than a problem with the team and thanks to note that. Also,in my opinion we dont care about the reason of why a level as been built,if he as a good looking deco,a good gameplay too see and play,the reason of why a level as been made not affected a general quality of a level. And for the originality point,this is the reason of why gd creation is soo boring too Start,i really fell like WHErin was really elitism, Unique and unpredictable doesn't mean masterpiece.
Culuc makes mostly a good point, but the one thing I disagree with is saying that you have to be elite to criticise other's work. You don't have to be a chef to not like food, I think you can criticise something without being good at it. Overall an awesome video though.
Anyone can criticize, but who has a more competent opinion? Chef or regular visitor? It seems to me that it’s still with the Chief. Unlike an regular visitor, the Chief obviously has more knowledge and skill.

@@gmdksaz You're implying that you need to be an expert to have reasoning behind an opinion. If someone served me shit food, I wouldn't need to be a chef to have valid reasons for it being bad. Same with levels, maybe a good creator has access to more reasons that you would consider valid, but it is blatantly untrue to say that people who aren't experts have no reasoning behind their beliefs.
This video was a really interesting look into the team, although I may not necessarily agree with everything said. I will say it feels a bit like a straw man argument that "passion" is the only criteria critics of cherry team use, since at least for me, it comes down to personal taste. I know that many of the individuals in that team love what they do, but when you have tens of people building and polishing a single product, you're more often than not going to get the mean of everyone's styles. Nearly every level I've seen is some weird amalgamation of a bunch of styles - It's almost like what an AI does - it leans from a dataset based on the past and builds off of combinations of things it's already seen. Again, I have nothing against the individuals behind the team, but I'm not a fan of the team's rigid structuring.
