About me:
I am a wife, mom and CRNA (certified registered nurse anesthetist). I went to nursing school to get my ADN, started working and then went back for my BSN. I was a travel nurse for 2 years before starting CRNA school. I loved travel nursing so much but I also love anesthesia so I went back to school to become a CRNA. Fitness is a huge part of my life. I've competed in powerlifting and Crossfit. Jon and I own a gym together. We are vegan because we are both huge animal lovers. We are also foster parents!

I would argue that it's only worth it financially if you are going to save up to pay cash, or work part-time during school to keep loans to a minimum and/or live well below your means for the first few years after graduating to pay those debts off. Someone who makes 80k and saves/invest 30k a year ends up wealthier than someone who makes 230k but only saves/invests 10k. As you said, no amount makes it worth it if you plan on doing this for 20 years and aren't passionate about it. Also, you look gorgeous per usual.

@@sunnykhan1643 you don't need to know how to do those procedures yet but you do need to be excited about learning how to do them. You don't become passionate about doing something after you have mastered it, your passion is what leads you to master it in the first place. I would ask yourself "Am I interested and excited about leaning these new skills?" before committing 3 years and 200k to it. Hope that helps.

Also there's an opportunity cost during school. Its not just how much school costs but the money you would earn during those 3 years that you are not making. 200k+ how much you would have made over the years...so if you work part time, it would be half your income x3 years+the 200k you have to pay back.

Your honesty about these sort of things is so awesome. I kind of expected you to immediately be like “of course it’s always worth it, it’s your passion, who cares about the cost, etc.” but you really laid out the facts. It’s important for people to be fully aware of what they are getting into when choosing a career and you’re a fantastic advocate of that. Not a CRNA, but love your vids just because you’re awesome!

This is such an important question for people to ask themselves before starting grad school. It comes down to picking an affordable school and making sure the numbers work in the long run. For many people it is helpful to find a hospital that will pay for school. One of my friends found a small hospital in NY that is paying his whole way through CRNA school so he will be debt-free and raking in the dough. Great information love the video!

Girl I’ve been following you from the beginning. You’ve always been super motivating and I’m so proud of you . After years of trying to transfer from the OPerating room , I finally was able to transfer to a cticu . No one wanted to give me a chance because I was an OR nurse . They all recommended doing medSurg first . I was determined not to do that because crna was always my goal . After working with so many crna , and them pushing me , and me sending hundreds of applications hoping some one would take me into an icu . I finally got in . You’ve also motivated me to save , save , save . I’m super cheap . The only thing I spend my money on is food . I’ve managed to save 70k. Hopefully in the next two years I can save up to 150k. The cticu is so hard and I feel so stupid , but I’m determined to make it . I’m at a disadvantage because of my chronic fatigue and lupus but I know where there is a will there is a way . Thank you for letting us follow your pathway .

My plan is to finish ADN. I need one more semester! Then work at this hospital that has an ICU Grad Program for about 2 years. Then get my bachelors while I work, then hopefully apply to CRNA school. It would be a dream come true. The only thing is that I keep getting Bs and Cs in nursing school right now so I feel as if CRNA school will be much harder.

Henry Suarez Of course! Depending on what courses, there’s online options or courses offered at local colleges (not sure where you’re based). I’m in my first year of CRNA right now and I’d say during my interviews, they looked at my pure science and anatomy/physiology/pharm grades the most.

I'm in a similar boat. Got As and Bs in nursing school but before that I got a few Cs as an undergrad grad. Over all before nursing I had a 2.9 now I probably have a 3.1 or 3.2. Really considering going but not sure if I even should. Needless to say if youre going adn to bsn. The BSN side you get alot of writing classes (by what I've heard) so should be easy As.

Don't study! Take some time off work beforehand. I started this fall, and it's busy but I'm learning everything I need to thus far. I start clinicals in 2 months! There really isn't a way to study for crna school when you don't know what it entails or know anything about anesthesia equipment or monitors. You'll learn it all. My best advice is to take some time off. Whether that be 2 weeks, or a month or so. I took 2 months off and it was amazing to get in the things I wanted to, knowing that my next couple years would be lacking in any sort of extracurricular activities. It let me take a break from a stressful ICU job and just let me RELAX

@NurseJamu
@NurseJamu 2 года назад
From what i have gathered through my research, ICU experience is required so as to familiarise with vasoactive drips, hemodynamic monitoring and troubleshooting vents among other things. This is helpful for the practice of anesthesia, so having the skills mastered beforehand will definitely help to smoothen the transition to practice. Also, there are so many applicants each year and fewer schools. Therefore, there has to be some criteria to cut the numbers to a select few.
