Detective Pikachu was the first real movie that showed how pokemon can live in the real world, it made me rethink if pokemon should live in the real world because at any moment, a pokemon could really destroy a whole city
Yeah, they're giving the Sonic movie the credit for breaking the video game movie curse when it was really Detective Pikachu that broke the curse since it's the first to remain with a positive score
I would like to mention, HOW GOOD THE BUILD UP TO THE VILLIAN HERE IS. In fact you can already find who the villain is in the news office with a random line that roger says, "No one likes you or your Pokémon" as a ditto in the background transforms from a human to a Pokémon. Also if you just paid attention to dialogue he literally confirms it by saying he was the one that harry was working for, which we know was for mewtwo. there's more foreshadowing but this comment is long enough.
Detective Pikachu is underreated. For wathever reason I liked Talking Pikachu that at the end I was so sad that he doesn't talk, but well it is somehow.
I remember seeing this with my grandma in 2019, and I didn't know anything about Pokemon then, but now recently I've slowly been getting into Pokemon, so this is the perfect time for this review. Love your vids May!
Fun fact: Alex Hirsch, the creator of Gravity Falls, was asked if he wanted to work on this film during early development, but decided to pursue other projects.
For me it’s one of the few examples of a good video game film adaptation. It was because the film actually cared about the source material and tried to tell a story that would actually take place in the world of the games. It didn’t try to totally rewrite the lore it didn’t have a magic portal open up from the game boy world to Earth. If more video game movies actually had something to do with the games they are adapting we’d have better video game films.
I finished the game awhile ago, and idk if I wanna redo the game to compare the movie and game to eachother, but oh my gosh do I hate the fact you need to spam buttons... It took me months to finish the last part of the game because of that
I should hate the villain, but that fact that they got Bill Nighy of all people is enough to entertain me, I mean I doubt he had any clue as to what was going on but even despite being confined to a wheelchair he still gives such an energetic performance. Plus the ditto fight was really fun, I’m surprised you didn’t mention that
In terms of Live-Action remakes of popular Animations, Detective Pikachu was without a doubt one of the better ones. The Pokémon themselves in this movie looked absolutely stunning and translated surprisingly well in a Live-Action setting.
When I was in the bowling alley I had so much fun and when I was in bowling alley I watched it sometimes I forget about it but it was great but also when I saw the news of the live action movies coming out I didn’t like sonic at start he was so ugly……but when I saw pikachu I thought this was fine
I hope they do at least one more Pokemon movie in this style, the next one with more Pokemon battles. Loved this one though- especially the Bulbasaur. So cute!
I'm really glad this is being acknowledged again I love this movie and it made my life better this is almost the last thing that happened before my best friend move so thank you for acknowledging this and also I just loved this movie
It's not a random concept, the movie was based off a Pokemon game by the same name and it's for the better that happened instead of trying to make something based off the main series, which are a lot more about player immersion and collecting and a lot less about plot. Also Mewtwo couldn't break out of the containment chamber until Pikachu messed with the power source, as is shown in the film. It's a deliberate action by Harry and Pikachu and is the whole reason of course that the Greninja were ordered to cause the wreck in the first place.
Why did they make it specificly about the game detective pikachu? Why not make a full lengh pokemon movie with ash and his friends. I mean, im not a big pokemon fan myself, but I feel like my pitch is kinda more accurate, but still dp is okay.
This movie was honestly amazing and definitely could do with a sequel like the sonic movie. Also I know they are supposedly making a live action Netflix show
I'd have to say that my biggest gripe of this movie was the fact that the Pokemon were terrifying, especially the Aipoms. When I was a kid, I had three favorite Pokemon: Skitty, Eevee and Aipom (not to mention the Unova starters, which I still love to this day). The enraged Aipoms just look like my own personal nightmare fuel of my childhood coming to haunt me. I'd love to see you do reviews on other Pokemon movies, maybe even the different series. If you'd do video games, I'd also like to hear your thoughts on the spinoff games (Pokemon Ranger, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, etc.)
Detective Pikachu is such a vibe movie. Only thing I wasn’t crazy about is Ryme city banning battles and poke balls not being much of a thing. It’s a neat concept that keeps the Pokémon in the forefront though so I get it.
I was Obsessed with Pokemon when I was younger and I still enjoy it.Also the movie didn't really impress me when it came out but I watched it Eventually and I't was alright
It is a stand alone movie. And frankly it is better this way than if it was to gain some shitty sequel that assasinate characters like in case of Fantastic Beasts.
If this movie and the franchise were to came out decades earlier then the writing of human characters would have been better, there would be animatronics and makeup designs like in Gremlins 1984, Predator 1987, and Jurassic Park 1993 and most Pokémon’s would behave more animalistic.
I... think they need to stick with non trainer stories for any future Pokemon movies. Pokemon Origins is good, but so truncated that the actual bits are just like three adventures and two squeezed together. Heck, the battle between Red and Blue is just the final round with only a few rounds. I rewatched that, and it felt rushed at times. A lot of telling rather than showing. No... movie makers should steer away from standard trainer stories for Pokemon. It allows the franchise's world to expand and build upon itself and allows for stories that wouldn't otherwise work in a tv series/video game format.
I was still new to Pokemon at the time (i grew up with Pokemon but mostly anime so idk much about the games until 2018). So, seeing a live action Pokemon movie is very interesting and not only that, i am very aware about the games and even play it back in 2018.
Okay ngl but that tomodachi music in the back hits home. You should do a video off of the game! I love the ratio between comedy and just giving your opinion. I love these keep it up! Edit: just listened to the song. IT SLAPS
Yay I watched this in the span of 10 minutes after you published it XD Let’s just hope Illumination doesn’t ruin the Mario movie with stupid potty humor…
