The cheese edge is popular in Detroit and Chicago. Detroit pizza usually has a fluffy crust, cheese edge and is cooked in rectangle pans. The pans were made for holding automotive parts in automobile factories back in the day.

Detroit-style pizza is a rectangular pan pizza with a thick, crisp, chewy crust. It is traditionally topped to the edges with mozzarella or Wisconsin brick cheese, which caramelizes against the high-sided heavyweight rectangular pan. Detroit-style pizza was originally baked in rectangular steel trays designed for use as automotive drip pans or to hold small industrial parts in factories.[

Chicago deep dish pizza is different to Detroit-style pizza. In New York they sell pizza similar to Detroit-style but they call it Sicilian-style. It is made in a rectangular pan and a thick base like Detroit-style. Chicago deep dish is made in a deep round pan and has tons of toppings; you basically have to eat it with a knife and fork.

I'm from the suburbs of Detroit, and my favorite Detroit Style Deep Dish is Italian Sausage only. Second is Hawaiian style with Pineapples, ham, and bacon. You get the crust, the tomato sauce, and the mozzarella cheese. Then they add topping or not your choice.

I’ve never been to Detroit but I’ve had Chicago deep dish. I prefer NY style over deep dish but I’m not really a pizza snob and love it all! Haha! 🍕 Love the black cardi with strawberries, Kate! ❤️🍓

Little Caesar's (in America) serves Detroit-style pizza. Chicago pizza is completely different. It comes down to preference. New York style is completely different as well.

Looks good but I hope they didn't advertise it as an American deep dish pizza. For us this is focaccia pizza. The deep dish here is more like a pizza pie with a ton of toppings in it.

Michigan girl here. Deep dish Detroit is completely different than Chicago Deep Dish. This looks spot on for Detroit style- nice crusty cheese edge. Sometimes they call it an 8 corner.

I’ve never heard of Detroit Deep Dish but I’m in greater Chicagoland. I worked at a pizza place and Detroit style referred to being cut into rectangles rather than triangles. 🤷🏼‍♂️

I wish we had more decent pizza places here in newfoundland... 99% of the places here use the big sandwich style pepperoni under the cheese and it's like just taking raw deli meat out of a bag and going to town. Which is fine when eating deli meat straight up but on pizza? It adds no texture or real flavor.

Chigo deep dish and Detroit is different (i think i've never had either, because in my newengland state of mind, it's not pizza, fight me if you have to, but it's not) "deep dish" is round, and the cheese to sauce radio is different. Im more of a Greek and New England style pizza. Pie was supposed to be eaten by hand, not the "fancy" way with the fork and knife. I also believe it was supposed to be a street food. (Don't quote me on that im not to sure about my pie lure.)
