Used to be a lot stronger and longer lasting even the EDP has dipped massively in performance it's just not worth it anymore. The big selling point was the performance now it's gone from being BEAST to above average. Moschino toy boy is the way forward nowdays 👍
@@mmmssbb23 idl cuz usually i have to over spray quite a bit on a lot of colognes(because my skin just absorbs fragrance) this one included but even with equal sprays to the rest, it MASSIVELY out performs most of my collection
Might be an unpopular opinion but I like it the more I wear it. I have other blues BDC EDT and Y EDP. I like Y but feels sweet and more youthful and I reach for DS more than BDC. Just a super easy dumb reach daytime fragrance. Good longevity, go easy on sprays to take metallic edge off. Not that it matters but the magnetic cap is cool!
First off, I like that you're doing this segment. George of Fragrance Apprentice and Jeremy were doing this and it's an interesting topic. Second, technically it should still be worth it. It's only been 5 years and like it or not (I'm neutral to it) nothing really compares to Sauvage during these 5 years. The real debate is about BdC. I'd like to hear your thoughts on that one, as well as The One and La Nuit.
Prada Carbon is my blue designer go-to. Sauvage EDT is fantastic, and I can think either is better than the other on a given day. But ONE thing that wearing Carbon has going for it that Sauvage does not is that when I'm wearing Carbon, I'm not wearing something that I'm not wearing something that everyone else is wearing. Sauvage is awesome, but Carbon is equally awesome, and not every swinging dick is wearing Carbon.
Completely agree with Steven, I own bottles from three different batches (2017,2018,2020) and the performance is exactly the same. I can’t confirm the projections, for obvious reasons, but longevity is the same (8 plus hours).
just bought Dior Sauvage yesterday. Someone made a good point that most guys don’t actually wear a fragrance, so although this is “basic”, you’ll still stand out
Dior is one of the few brands that always announces publicly when it reformulates its product. They reformulated the EDP version and immediately announced this news, without covering up, marking the new formula on the box. The old formula of EDP is 12053 / A, and that of the new editions is 13705 / A. The original formula of the EDT version from 2015 is 09406 / A, this is the current formula, which is visible on the back of each box, that is, it has not been changed, this is the old original formula. When the formula is changed, the law obliges the manufacturer to announce this change publicly, otherwise it will be forced to withdraw all its products from stores. So when there is compelling evidence, it doesn't matter what they say, 100 or 200 people with a subjective opinion!
Sauvage gets better the longer you ‘bond’ with it. It’s truly a timeless classic. Name me another designer fragrance with its lasting power and silage that smells fresh, unique, and fantastic. It was a trend setter. The OG. Love it or hate it, it will be remembered forever in the frag world. And Steve I’m with you... the EDT original is the best of the 3.
Honestly .. for as long as I’ve been in to fragrance . I’ve only come across two people that have worn this around me . And I’ve been wearing this for a while .
It is not worth it anymore in my opinion, even in a country where men don't wear Fragrance ( Finland ) I smell sauvage almost every Saturday or Tuesday out at the bar. You'll smell good but just like every other guy who even wears Fragrance. In my opinion if you wanna wear sauvage, go with cool spray. It's different enough with the added citrus and patchouli! And the parfum is great but people won't be able to smell you unless they're hugging you
@@InstantKaarma On the flip: "This is the power of hype. Only vapid airheads dig solely new released fragrances because: 1) they're stuck on adhering to trends, 2) they dont remember 5 minutes ago and believe that a quality not a deficiency.
If you like it ..you like it! So many people wear everything that's gd ! With that attitude dont wear anything then lol. I learned a long time ago to not worry what others think . just worry about yourself and what you like!
Christian already got dylan blue, thanks for suggestion though. I’d the say sauvage smells better, they both have similar performance and Dylan blue obviously is better priced.
HARIS Raja I have a 2017 or 2018 batch of Dylan blue. Have you tested the new batches, might get a back up bottle of it. However, I want to get BDC edp because dylan blue is at every discounter and a present top seller. Also sauvage is sauvage, a lot of people have it. That’s why I wanna buy blue de chanel, although it’s been out for a while, it’s more classy and naturally smelling, also not many people would be rocking it. Note: have tried ysl y edp but it doesn’t smell better than the other 3 I’ve just listed (although it does have great performance).
If you are talking about performance nowadays , you should say the batch . Or buy a new bottle ( for a channel like yours , which is quality info) . I really do have performance issues with my new Jan 2021 edt . Pepper went down also . Idk if the bottle needs to rest or smthg…. But definitely it’s not the same . People around me cannot smell it (before after 10 hours still could). Just sprayed 2 sprays in my neck , and the opinion of my friend (who doesn’t know about perfumes ) is that the scent is “good but very weak” ( promise it’s true). Before , 1 spray after my work and ppl was “MAN THATS TOO STRONG!” ( several times has occurred). I’ve been wearing sauvage min 3 times/week since the last 3 years (I owned 3 bottles) soooo …..I know what I’m talking about . With apologies , but I think that those reviewers sometimes has too many fragrances and they cannot check it properly . As he said , 6 hours of duration ….come on , sauvage lasted easily 10 hours (or more) and that’s a fact .
@@kennyc2281 I will be very honest…yes it is worth. Go for it. I would say that Dior Sauvage, Channel allure sport EE, Blue de Channel… even Montblanc Explorer… are fragrances that never fail and will give you tons of compliments.Sauvage is definitely weaker now. But just spray more (and on the clothes ) , let’s say 5 sprays .
@@shadyevenings I am looking for that peppery, ambroxan EDT batch. I tried tester of this strong batch in autumn of 23, but didn't check batch unfortunetly. I have decant of Sauvage 2023 EDT but it's soft as hell. From my research batches starting from 2020 are no good, which batch you had beforehand?
@@mkozlovskis97 so I guess 2018-19-20. Anyway , it’s weaker yeah , but still can last all day , just spray more and on clothes (5-7 sprays will do the work). Don’t get too obsessed , still is the best in the market , way far from anything else if you live in a hot country ! If you live in a cold country I guess there are other options also … but for hot weather , nothing better than savage edt, for anyone , in any occasion , is insane .
It's a masterpiece! I am holding up my bottle while watching this review. 😁 I hate to sound like a broken record, but I bought this perfume because of your review and in love with it ever since. I even got a back up bottle.
The EDT is my favorite of the 3, but I refuse to wear it to the office because it is quite strong. In its place, i usually reach for Bleu de Chanel Parfum or Ellysium.
i help u all don't buy dior sauvage, it very weak.. edt and edp is average , the pafum is the most weak of all of them ( TRUST ME ) don't waste you money . buy the elixer because it not reformulate yet and the elixer performance is still beast.. if it very expensive for you go ysl y edp, the performance is still beast , i don't care if the perfume is versityle or not just practice how much you gonna spray base on your occasion. sharing is caring
I bought the edp. It’s very good. I also got the edt in 2019 and it went to a skin scent in less than an hour. Obviously reformulated and ruined. Why would they do that? It’s already almost one hundred percent synthetic!!! This tells me they are cheapening their fragrances to save money. Last Dior anything I will buy. I’m pretty sure the fragrance industry has already lost lots of customers
I dont understand why they didn't mention about the reformulation. I got the 2020 batch and the performance sucks! These reviewers are probably paid not to say anything...
Anyone thinks the 2020 EDT batch is significantly less peppery than the previous ones? The EDP has that peppery drydown that I always associate with the original Sauvage. The current EDT 2020 has very little peppery drydown and a lot sweeter.
I agree, Dior Sauvage is 100% relevant in 2020! My favorite flanker in the Sauvage series is the Parfum. In my opinion, the Parfum version is more on the warm side and is not as loud as the EDT making it perfect for a romantic evening and also more safe to wear in the office. Great review and new series!!
As a guy who is tired of seeing nothing but super sweet fragrances coming out ( code profumo, invictus, 1 million. And all they're flankers) I love a clean spicy woody fragrance like sauvage. Worth it in my opinion.
Update: this has been reformulated and now becomes a skin scent after 30-45 minutes and doesn't perform at all, hardly detectable at 5 hours on skin. I have 2018 batch.
@Malcolm Rose if you can find an original bottle from when it was first realeased for a decent price then yes...otherwise I wouldnt recommend it. The new formulations suck. If you can smell and do a performance test for yourself I would say that's the best way to go.
@@brandonmitchell1457 wanna get the 200ml edt tomorrow so I checked it just last week...was definitely a new batch...I had like 10 others sprayed around diffrent parts...and the next morning all I could smell was the sauvage and light blue forever!!
I have never smelt sauvage on anyone else !! So I wouldn’t say everyone is wearing it . Some say it’s skool kids scent , but I can’t see kids affording to buy it . I think it’s a great smelling fragrance 👍🏻
not a fan of the EDT. The opening is not as good as the EDP and the parfum. The EDT also smells more juvenile in my opinion. My EDT bottle is from 2015 and it smells the exact same and performs the same as a sample decant I received from 2019.
Dude I got a bottle for Christmas and I love how it smells but I’m so disappointed on it’s performance and strength, it lasts about 3 hours on my skin I swear 😕
Generally speaking this is done intentionally for a couple reasons. Think about it, the shorter lasting it is but still an amazing smell well you’re going to use a lot more of it and eventually buy more bottles. Secondly is the longer a fragrance lasts means they have to really dump it with ambroxyn and other chemicals. Some synthetics are totally okay but when people want these crazy long lasting 6, 7, 8 hour fragrances then they’re going to need to pump it up artificially which then lowers the quality of the product. Most brands figure they’d sacrifice the longevity over the quality of the fragrance. What in nature do you know of that lasts for that many hours. Most things in nature the smell on skin only lasts a couple hours. Anyway that’s just my personal opinion I obviously have zero affiliation with them I’m just speaking in general terms for fragrances.
Heck yeah, to me Sauvage can still give new fragrances a run for their money. Dior Sauvage and Creed Adventus has a couple few things in common. They both are love/hate fragrances. They both, to me smell great and they both are good for year around/signature scent worthy and for any occasion. Great work Stven🐐 Great Review!!!! "THUMBS UP"🥊🔔
@@kommsussertod5943 I didn’t know they had batches remind me tommrow I can check for you as I bought them from world duty free at the airport they have 3 for 2 offer.
The EDP and Parfum are more for the evening they are darker, the most vesatile and perfect choice of those three is and always will be the EDT, it has the great balance of freshness, spicyness and a slight sweetness making it an 24/7/365 Days fragrance if you wish to. If you're a grown man you may prefer the EDP or Parfum, but for younger man until at least 30 the EDT is definitely the better choice also the girls mostly think of old man with the EDP and Parfum lol
It might be a overworn fragrance in the western countries but in korea, where i live in, its hard to find a man wearing sauvage. Most people here consider scents like sauvage as old man's fragrance and dont enjoy it. I heard even high school kids and early 20's wear sauvage. Which is hard to imagine in korea. So even i own sauvage and love it, i dont wear it often. People here enjoy inoffensive, soapy and clean scents (boring in my opinion) like lazy sunday morning by margiela or blanche by byredo. Maybe its because of the different body odor(probably the biggest reason) weather and culture. Which is quite sad for me because i love heavy oriental, spicy, powdey scents, which is hard to get compliments here. Anyways i would say its worth it at least in my country cuz its a quite rare scent.
Sauvage is a bit a victim of his own success. It's popular for a good reason but i smell it almost everywhere. It smells good, good longevity and the projection is good for a reasonable price. I wear it sometimes but i wear the very cool spray more often.
IT is worth to the group which it is addressed, so for the blue/fresh/ mass market/ mass apealing lover this is still worth every penny! Yeah its very common nowdays, thats true, but so it is with Bleu de Chanel, Eros, and other mainstreem fragrances! For me its not worth it, i m more into the classic/ power house/ deep notes/ musc/leather/heavy notes with beautiful natural blanding, but i respect Sauvage for what it is. !Salute you man!
it's not uniq anymore but that doesnt mean it's not worth it. I wont be a good alternative for a fragrance collector perhaps, but for a regular person i would say dior sauvage is a really good buy. Dior sauvage is safe and still mass appealing.
I dont wear it anymore, i will wear prada carbon in place of it, but cant deny how good it still smell. I tell you want, you dont want to be around someone with it on because sauvage going to grab all the attention
I still use Edt for the versatility but prefer the Edp. Prada Luna Rosa Carbon is very similar but a little more refined at half the cost. I get a crazy amount of compliments from the Dior line.
I have 1/2 a bottle left of the EDP from 2018. This juice is special to me because my wife bought it for me and I wore it when we got married. I just ordered a 200ml bottle of the EDT so I can save the juice of my EDP and I live in FL, so the EDT is better overall in the weather down here. I got a 200ml for $123. So I’ll have enough for the rest of my life. I also bought it in case they really do reformulate it. The EDT will be a classic like JPG LeMale in 20 years that everyone wished they had the original formula. Great video like always Steven!
I bought my first bottle a few months ago from a VA hospital store. I checked it's authenticity and it's real. It last on my skin maybe two or three hours and then it's completely gone. I'm gonna try and let it sit longer and see if that helps. Although the performance sucks so far the smell is addicting and it's a Swiss army knife type fragrance. I might give the cool spray a shot.
Yes it is, especially in places of this word where most of people have 1 million, A. Codes and JPG. Also mixing fragrances is something I use and Savage is must have formula. For one night stand I use 1 sprays of Dior Savage on my chest, 1 spray of Dior Savagr on my back neck, one spray Aqua di Gio Profumo on my side neck, and 1 spray of zara vibrant leather summer on my biceps. Its mix on my skin and no one knows what I have on me , kompliment is must, its not aggressive smell, and its stay on partner skin too, when she woke up next day, she will smell you.
Absolutely still trending and I think this will keep inspiring several more companies and I wouldn’t doubt 😂 creed will jump o this this DNA with their own twist
Honestly, I see no good reason for someone to reformulate a perfume that does not contain banned and expensive ingredients. However, if anyone has doubts and worries about Sauvage's performance, just buy YSL Y YDP. It follows the same line, but has a brutal performance, on my skin 12-14 hours with 4 hours of strong projection.
Hi Steven, unrelated question i know but I'm almost at the end of my armani code profumo, do I get another bottle or would absolou be a good alternative
Based on my experience, they're both very similar. I prefer the composition of Absolu a bit more, but the performance of Profumo is better. I'd say it depends on what you want-- assuming you haven't bought a new bottle already.
Another thing I think is worth considering is the epidemic of anosmia to Ambroxan-reliant scents. With the trend this cologne set-to layer large amounts of Ambroxan ontop of Amber/Wood for an effect-more and more colognes today are imitating this. As Ambroxan heavy colognes surround people and linger in their noses, it becomes harder to notice the “wow” effect of the Ambroxan in Sauvage. In 2016, Sauvage was unique in this way. So was Aventus. 5 years from then, and hundreds of imitations later, it is no longer unique. And people are unable to smell the punch of Ambrox that they should when experiencing Sauvage. Sad but true.
Fantastic vid, you covered a lot of good points. I still feel like I should buy it to add to my collection, but I'm one of those who find it too metallic when up close. In the air around me however I believe it would really be amazing.
Classics have their place in Frag Com history. I enjoy the EDT, I don't reach for it as much now days. But it'll always be in my collection. I prefer the EDP it's more versatile and well balanced for any occasion. Great review as always Steven.
Yo, this channel got me into the hobby some months ago. Helped me pick the three scents to start with; Dior Sauvage, Homme Intense, and Molecule 01. Can’t wait for my order to come in. Granted I’m a broke college student, so the $281 after discount still stings. But damn, I wish I remembered when you mentioned it’s cheaper if you avoid discounters, my bad.
I just bought a 100ml for 77 euro of Dior Sauvage Edt in 2022 hope is good i also have a 2018 bottle which is great, but after 2 hour i can't smell it anymore idk why maybe because of the ambroxan in it but people around me are telling me that i smell great..
i was debating which to buy first...so in your honest opinion which is best out of the 3 to have as the best sauvage ...hope u and ur family are doing good steven
The only thing I don't like about this fragrance is that it reminds every female of her ex-boyfriend. I hate that. Why can't I meet a nice girl who's ex smelled like garbage?
i think it's so over rated. Especially when you have Prada Carbon which is the closest to it and for less money. In this day and age where Everyone has heard of it for many years now.. and has the chance to buy it and wear... I'd say No it's not worth it. Everyone knows it. Everyone has smelled it. You only say yes bc you like it. Yes there's better options out there but there's always that Original factor. If anything you should buy the smallest bottle of it and save money and buy the other options to have variety.
I bought 5 100ml bottles from my local Nordstrom. I'm down to my last 100ml which is 40% full. 5T01 batch code for my 100ml June 2015 and 6U03 July 2016 for my 200ml that hasn't been used yet. I gave my teenage son a 2015 bottle earlier this year. Two sprays is very noticeable when I wear it. I was in a fast food place during my lunch hour and the lady behind the cash register said I smelled good. It cut through that fast food cloud easily. Compliment is still a compliment
It's never been worth it, mainly because it isn't cheap juice so there are countless better options...and by the way, it's like Dior's 10th best offering...
I have an August 2020 0F01 batch for the EDT and it's horrible I'm going to return it to Sephora. Smells great for 30 minutes then its almost completely gone.
Always loved Dior for it's uniqueness,DH,DHI, Fahrenheit reek of unique and polarizing.Ive used this,it seems rather more mass pleasing but worth every dollar you pay.
i bought a tester 2017 batch. it is strong as hell. its not a fake or i donno. it smell more peppery than the recent batches. also the opening has a big bergamot blast. the new ones dont have that same blast effect as the old bottles have. now i cant find old batches anymore :((
