IS "Divergent" AS BAD AS PEOPLE SAY? *MOVIE REACTION* 

I LOVED this movie series and concept. Sequels lacked a bit but I actually loved the first one.

I like the first two Divergent movies but I really hate the third it’s so boring. Allegiant (third movie) was meant to be the first of two parts but because it didn’t do well at the box office, Part 2 got cancelled and was meant to be a show. However, there wasn’t enough interest in the show being produced so they scrapped it.

I like both the books and the movies. Just sucks they didn't finish the series off.

I still like this trilogy till this day, sad that not enough people think so. I hope you enjoy all of them.

I think YA dystopian films were dying out around the time of the 2nd film and having to follow the Hunger Games probably didn't help.

I loved the series. At the time there were a lot of others movies that people were comparing to each other like the Hunger Games series and the Mazerunner series. I think people were getting tired of the tropes. I love them though.

The final installment was supposed to come out as a TV Movie instead of going to theaters. And then in never happened. I legit never knew because the "ending" matched the rest of the show, it lost the plot. The Authur of the books this was based on did it as a either high-school/college writing prompt that ended up being published. She didn't plan out a full story and felt compelled to write the rest.

In the book when Tris is dropping her blood into one of the bowls it actually drips on the floor a bit that’s how nervous she was

The Frighteners is also another amazing movie and it's got Michael J fox in it. Very underrated movie.

I liked this movie. It was unique and different.

This one is great as a stand alone. You probably really don’t need to watch the other movies though. They ruined the franchise with the 2nd and 3rd adaption

I loved them! Did you recognize the actor who plays Peter? Same actor who played Rooster (Goose's son) in Top Gun Maverick. If you ever get a chance even if you watch it on your own, check him out in the movie Whiplash. It was nominated for several academy awards and J.K. Simmons won best supporting actor, although I think Miles' acting was just as intense.

The 1st movie is good while the 2nd movie is good in the beginning. The 3rd one sucks and thinking they shouldn't have split the movie, was a bad idea

This was going to have a fourth movie and a Spinoff TV series that was going to be on STARZ, but this would soon be cancelled due to the poor box office reception of the third film

Another Movie with a similar pre-planned society vibe from the same time period is called The Giver from 2014. They only made one movie and left a cliffhanger of sorts. It is a really good movie.

The movie isnt terrible, but it really didnt do the books justice. Then again, it came out around the same time as Maze Runner and Hunger Games, so I think production-wise, it kind of got overshadowed and maybe didnt hit as hard as the other two

Divergent is just incredibly mediocre at best and then it just gets worse and worse in the other 2 films as i feel like they were jumping on the hype of Hunger Games not to mention the book of Divergent was originally written over a winter break from college (which is about 3 weeks) and the other 2 probably even less, which is why a lot of people say its a bad trilogy

I fucking love the whole concept of this world and story but it didn’t work for me and I’m so disappointed. it was a mix of the acting, dialogue, lack of real flow, lack of character development that felt real or important and it was too rushed for me. This could be a series. The whole world concept and lore is epic tho. So much you could do with this world! I think there is too much here for this to be movies. It ruins it forcing it into a box

Veronica Roth said in an interview that she got the basic idea for the series from the Psych classes she was taking as a psychology major in college, along with the mental image of someone being asked to jump off a building as a test of courage. Divergent has an interesting premise that could have been executed better. Roth, as a novice writer at that time, should have invested in a few sessions with a developmental editor, especially for the last two books. That's what I would do if I wrote the rough draft of a full length novel I wanted to publish, and turn into a series.

Dude, OH MY GOD! I was feeling the exact same thing as you were, for this specific actor! He is so familiar, I felt I knew him from somewhere else, but when I looked him up, there was nothing he was in that I have watched. How weird is that???

I enjoyed these movies and love the sci-fi aspects and kinda scary it is comparing to IRL. I wish they finished the story. There was supposed to be a 4th movie.

Divergent feels pretty cookie cutter of teenage drama/apocalypse. If you like that genre, you'll probably like this. If you don't, you won't. Nothing wrong with that.

Short answer, yeah

The only silly aspect of this film is that most of us in the real world are divergent so doesn't make much sense to me that in this film most people are not divergent

The books were kinda solid, could have been better casting for the lead role. Shailene was not bad but it needed just that little bit more. It's important, look at how great Wednesday turned out and much of that was insanely good casting.

I did like the books more than the movies. I don't remember how it finished 🤔. They should reboot it in about 10 years and see if they can finish it properly.

For me personally, not that it's bad. It's just that...I don't care about it. At all 😂 I only caught a glimpse of it on tv. I had zero interest. Not one of my friends were talking about this movie. Or recommended it. None.

I think the later films left a retrospective bad aftertaste on this one, but this one was a fairly decent adaptation. I did enjoy the books, but so much of them had to do with internal thought process that I'm not surprised the films fell a little emotionally flat with new viewers.

Actually that’s a really good point about the reflection and Abnegation discouraging looking at one’s own reflection. That probably has something to do with the sexual assault scene as well? It sounds like in the book it was different and more about repression, which Abnegation was all about. And yes I liked that you compared it to real life scenarios because I see it as representing those dynamics fairly well in spite of it being more symbolic and obviously not quite the humans we know.

I've seen all three of these movies but the first one is my favorite. The last two just felt really rushed.

It's not a bad movie. The series gets extremely bad tho. Much like the later maze runner films.

The first film is better than the sequels. People didn't like the sequels because it felt like the writers stopped putting in any effort to make the story interesting. Which is sad that they thought being that laziness and lack of effort was still going to make people like the first Divergent film just as much, unfortunately that is not the case. I believe more and more as days go by that Hollywood really don't respect people. They think we're that dumb and easy to manipulate and go along with anything they do and think the world will be okay with it. Given the climate of Hollywood nowadays, and the terrible films and shows they make Hollywood looks even more toxic than before. I understand why more actors are escaping California now. I don't blame them for wanting to get away. At this rate, I think people are probably not going to want to be in the entertainment industry anymore.

I don't know why this series has a bad rep. I actually liked all three movies. Yes, one of them less than the rest, but this always happens with trilogies. I actually liked these movies. They are cool

Divergent is a good movie and it was pretty ok compared to the book, but when they replaced the director for the sequence, they ruined the movies. The script was poorly done and the movies got lost of the books. I don't like Robert Schwentke movies at all.

I highly recommend Ender's Game. If you haven't seen it yet.

First off I would love to get a tattoo like that it looks less painful. Four and Tris dated in real life for a bit and then broke up and had to still play love interest they were cute but Theo James who plays four had cheated so they split which must've been awkward working with your ex I personally love this franchise only because I'm weird and love cheesey weird things or I just like being opposite of ppl and the cast is good looking to watch also Shailene Woodley(Tris) has played love interest to Ansel elgort(Caleb) who plays the brother on here in fault in our stars and Miles Teller(Peter) the mean guy in spectacular now and so she is closer to them in the cast and her ex who plays four always looked jealous because of it I love this movie so much though the last one was interesting too wasn't the best but it was interesting 🤔

I remember loving the first book when it came out, the movie was helpful in visualizing, but was disappointing

The actors were cool, specially Kate Winslet and Theo James, but the adaptation was extremely boring

Enjoyed this series. My personal favorite casting choice was Maggie Q as Tori. I've been a huge fan of hers for a number of years, especially as Nikita and she plays Tori so well.

I found these movies to be extremely underrated. The books as well, although the first two movies are definitely a step above the third. I never read the last book, but from what I heard, it all fell apart lol.
