For those of you that have never done this before. I'm an old farm kid and I've changed dozens of these things growing up. Here's some advice. 1. He's got soapy water, check. Lubrication helps alot here. 2. He's got two decent sized bars. Check. I would usually have a smaller pry bar to help along but working it this way it's the end of the world 3. Leave it mounted on the tractor or tie it down to something solid. As you can see he's chasing it. You're wasting energy doing that. While you're gonna get a workout doing a pair of these you don't need to kill yourself. 4. VICE GRIPS..... Get a rag with a pair or two of vice grips. Clamp them onto the rim (with the rag between the jaws and the rim to keep from marring up the rim) right as the point where the tire drops into the center of the rim. Use these are a hold/third hand to hold the tire down in the center drop. If you don't you're gonna end up chasing it around the rim (see comment 3). 5. Take small bites. Once you get it past 1/2 way it will want to pull itself on. Don't kill yourself. 6. Tire tubes. What I typically do is I inflate them about 1/3rd of the way just to get all the wrinkles and stuff out of them. Then note the orientation of the valve stem etc. Pull the valve stem core to deflate the tube bearing in mind the orientation of everything. You want to make sure you don't pinch the tube or twist the tube. Then use a pull through to keep the tube where it should be on the rim

On the subject of doing things yourself. It was told to me that a neighbor of my grandfather asked him why he didn't spend some of his money and fix his fences. My grandfather replied that the reason he had money in the bank was he left the fences just as they are. This conversation most likely happened in the, 1930's, and was witnessed by an uncle of mine.

New tires are, fortunately, much softer and pliable than old dried-out rubber.....went on much easier than I would have expected, too. Nice tire tools (long for leverage, and shaped for efficiency).

When fitting the tube tyre ,finish off at the valve stem so you don't break the stem off the tube

Great videos. Can repost the video on how you made those c clamps.

put a little air in the tube before installing it onto the rim, it'll go a lot easier for you.

Another good trick with new tyres is to coat the inside with talcum powder and get a little air in the tube before seating the top bead, it will help the tube to sort itself out when you inflate the tyre and give you a nice smelling tractor!😂😂

They made a hammer for the beads at one time. About 3 pound weight. One end was a flat hammer head, other was a rubber head, about 3" in diameter. Pounded a lot of tire beads on with one of them. Another trick is to jack up the tractor and let gravity help you, if you have a flat tire. The weight of the tire will help to get it over the rim. Start at the bottom and workat it, rotating the tire and rim as you go.

Always start on the opposite side of the valve stem. Which you did. I started at the valve stem one time and the tire broke the stem when it tried to move in the groove.

Exactly, I just commented too ,you worded it pretty good, cost of new tubes aren't cheap

The first side of a tire is easy. Stand the tire up against a wall or other solid object so it is leaning, lube the bead and set the rim in then stand on the wheel to force it down into the tire. With the right angle you can bounce a few times and it will go right in. Getting a tube in and the other bead on without damaging the tube is another story.

Someday, you'll wish you had welded something on that wheel to protect the valve stem. Personally, I like to saw a 2" pipe coupling in half, weld the resulting threaded ring onto the wheel, and screw a short length of pipe into the ring. This protects the stem while still allowing you to air-up the tire.

Tire change no big deal. Ballast removal and reinstall action, that’s another matter and a PITA.

Easier to do it on the tractor so the rim is solid and not flopping around

Even higher skilled trades can be learned to a reasonable level of proficiency if you're willing to spend the time on the youtubes. Refrigeration is particularly rewarding.
