Two-reeler made from songs deleted from the final release of OH CHARLIE! Additional numbers were filmed on the night club set. This also has an alternate pre-record of the vocal for "Me and My Shadow".

I'm singing at a 90th birthday party this Saturday night and imitating Ted Lewis. I am an 81-year-old retired professional singer. Can't sing anymore but I can still entertain.

My grandpa used to say this at family gatherings in the sixties. Now I finally know where he got it. Thank you for posting.

"Oh Charlie!" was released [and better known] as "Hold That Ghost", starring a pair of burlesque and radio comedians famous for some....."baseball routine", I believe. Funny thing is, when WPIX in New York used to show "Hold That Ghost" late Sunday mornings in the '70s and '80s, they'd ALWAYS omit Ted Lewis' opening musical number (due to the 90 minute time period it was shown in).

2:33 "Is everybody happy? Yessir!" Ted Lewis was the man who made this catch phrase famous---back in the day.

In the musical 'Damn Yankees', Mr. Applegate sings 'Those Were the Good Old Days' as he reminisces about dark times in human history. Among his list including Napolean, Jack the Ripper, and the stock market crash, he pauses and asks' 'Was anybody happy?;, an obvious nod to Ted Lewis

Somebody invested something in the mid 30's. The quality of sound took an amazing leap in quality.
@ChelseaRialtoStudios

Well, this is only a 16mm print. It's a "composite dupe" with a variable density soundtrack. Not anywhere near representative of Universal's recording quality of the early 1940's (see the current video versions of HOLD THAT GHOST for comparison). But yes, in late 1935 studios started using the "push-pull" recording system which increased fidelity by yards.

Anyone remember the MAUDE episode with Maude and Florida doing "Me and My Shadow" in a talent show and Maude insisting on being the shadow?

My goof, something awry with my display, forget what I said about the re-mastering, he says as he crawls away totally embarrased.
@ChelseaRialtoStudios

Not a problem and no need to crawl away. I transferred this from my own 16mm print. There is a slight unavoidable overscan with my telecine machine but otherwise it was transferred at full frame.

Do you have any other Universal two reelers? I'm looking for Rhythm Revel with the Will Osborne band.
@ChelseaRialtoStudios
@ChelseaRialtoStudios 3 года назад
HAH! I have many but NOT Rhythm Revel. I've been looking for a print for years! Even the Castle version Swing and Sing. As you know, it has the Brian sisters singing "The Boogie Woogie Boogie Man"! I have the two features with the number but not the original short.

@@ChelseaRialtoStudios I've found next to nothing on it other than what appears to be the castle print. Do you own any of the other Osborne films, theres a Paramount from 1936 called "Rah Rah Football", a Vitaphone from 1934 and another from 1939. I would love to find these films, there is a copy of the 34 film, but it suffers from severe generation loss.

@@ChelseaRialtoStudios that was that Abbot and Castello film right? Where did he appear in that?
@ChelseaRialtoStudios
@ChelseaRialtoStudios 3 года назад
@@dogerecords5312 He appears briefly in the last reel. My guess is that any specialty numbers he filmed for the feature were deleted prior to release. Universal had a habit of doing that. Morton Downey had three of his four songs deleted from GHOST CATCHERS after the preview.

Nice post but whoever did the transfer went for widescreen with a 4:3 picture and everyone's head is missing! Suggest re-mastering this in full 4:3 frame mode. Thanks!
