I'm still figuring this Pond Management and balance thing out. We have used the following to try and remove our Watermeal issue. I'm no expert, just a guy doing his best and trusting others experiences.
Flumigard (herbicide) amzn.to/3c3kofF
Alligare 90 (1 gallon of Surfactant) amzn.to/2RUm9EQ
Pond Dye (twilight blue from Airmax) amzn.to/3fUvZyv
Muck Pellets amzn.to/3c5cvGu

Have a amall pond near the house just been looking into this. Wow i saw your 1 week aerator video first and what a difference. I had no idea ponds had maintenance required. Our pond us lije a puddle compared to yours. Im glad it worked out for you. Thank you for posting updates.

Looks good👍 My uncles pond just looks like a blue sewage pit with a fountain in the middle at the moment. You are definitely further ahead than he his

You're doing great. Look into Natural Lake Bioscience. Their muck reducer and Nature's Blend pond probiotics are top of the line. The bottom aeration is great but unfortunately duckweed and watermeal are very difficult to control completely. The trick is to take away any stagnant areas of the pond and the only way to do that is with a Kasco Surface Aerator. Now they recommend 1 hp per acre but with my experience with duckweed and watermeal you need a 1.5 hp per acre. So a 1/4 acre pond would need at minimum a 1/2 hp series. This will keep a nice non intrusive wave across the pond surface like an inch pinning the duckweed and watermeal along the edges of the pond allowing much easier herbicide treatments. But it's all what and when you can afford it. Keep up the hard work! Great choice in herbicide remember don't treat the entire water body more than 5x a year at least 30 days a part. My recommendation is to conduct half water body treatments every 2 weeks. Chemical resistance will occur as well as a build up of the active ingredients

By the time 2 weeks goes by on the first half its 30 days so a 2 week management plan is best to minimize adverse side effects

Seems like you're on the right track. Introducing some Koi and grass carp would definitely help the weed problem and reduce the need for herbicide. Koi will gobble up duckweed while the grass carp graze on the subsurface stuff.

I think you'll be okay. They survive through our PA winters just fine.

Hello Joe, I've been following your pond progress for awhile & really appreciate the content. I have a spring fed pond a bit smaller than yours at about a 1/4 acre. Im trying to get this pond cleared up but have lots of alge & duckweed every year. I also followed your lead with aeration & got a system from Septic Solutions. Am very happy with it. Now tackling the plant growth. I resisted chemical treatment but just can't get ahead of the issue. Am about to try your chem treatments. Am very concerned as i have well water. Will start with very small doses. Do you turn your aerator off during treatments? Thanks for all your help & guidance! ~Bob

I agree with the concern of well water, I had the same concern. I left my aerator on during the kill period. I tried to do a small application at first and it just didn’t kill it all. 2nd application did. It has been a couple years since I have sprayed Flumigard. I do see some duckweed along the edges but it has never grown into more. I continue to try to reduce the nutrient level of the pond which discourages duckweed growth. Water movement also seems to help

@@YoungbloodFamilyFarm Thanks so much for getting back to me Joe. Over half of the pond is now duckweed & not even in the hotter months. Have to try & get this under control. Believe this is the only way. Really appreciate the advice & the Amazon links. Have everything now. Just waiting for the right conditions to apply it. Best to you & family! ~Bob

Does it matter what time of year you treat your pond? Mine is 100% covered with watermeal.

Water temp should be above 60 degree. Full sun is helpful, but I believe it needs at least 4 hours without rain

What was your Flumigard to Alligare 90 mixture?
@YoungbloodFamilyFarm
@YoungbloodFamilyFarm 2 года назад
I would mostly fill a 5 gallon pail with water (above 60 degree), mix in 5oz of Flumigard and 2oz of Alligare 90. Stir, the mix like to settle so I continue to mix between fills, I only have a 1 gallon sprayer

It’s called duck weed because ducks eat it. Duck eggs are good too besides watching them is in itself a fun time.

What a waste so much money, feed and food wasted and that's ontop of the money your using to kill it.

I would say you are either right or you’re wrong. Depends on what your goal is. If I could go back, I would have attacked this different, however I’m glad the duckweed is gone

@@YoungbloodFamilyFarm ya I can see that now I've been looking up watermeal but hard to find good info however I thought duckweed was good as well but one guy had no luck feeding it to his livestock other than pigs, he tried wet and dry. So he just added it to his compost

@@YoungbloodFamilyFarmHi! How would you have done this differently?
@YoungbloodFamilyFarm

I really couldn’t tell you. Flumigard killed surface growth but also destroyed much of the natural bacteria. I had so many variables from duckweed/watermeal to muck buildup, too many nutrients, and poor PH. Flumigard did what I needed and I have not had any return of surface growth,
