Pileated woodpecker has been my favorite card since the base game. It's now even stronger in Oceania. I'm normally pretty reluctant to play hummingbirds and even more reluctant to put them in the forest but it seems like it worked out well here, controlling the birdfeeder gave you a really strong nectar advantage!

I used to be reluctant to play hummindbirds in the forest, but I've come to really like doing this, even pre-OE. In pre-OE, hummingbird in forest meant that, so long as I could discard a card, I could gain 3 food in forest activation, and while it gives the opponent 1 food I gain 3 at the same time, whereas in the GL or WL it can be trickier to decide when to give and withhold food. I often do this for games where I know I'm not going to use my forest much and don't plan to develop it, since those types of games are usually ones where I have ample card draw and need to occasionally gain a hefty amount of food and don't want to spend two turns gaining enough food to play a 3 food cost bird. In OE I think hummingbirds are more risky and potentially more rewarding since you can use it to amp up your own nectar supply and/or be forced to give your opponent nectar. Pileated woodpecker, Wood Duck, Cali Quail etc. are all much stronger since forest is so much stronger in OE!

Pileated Woodpecker went from Ok in EE to godlike in OE.

Playing big point birds is such dominant strategy in OE that I think it often justify forest hummer.

I’ve found a decent strategy is a quick forest, strong water (hopefully with a tuck engine), I use grasslands to store blue, pink, and yellow cards.

Some birds are definitely louder than the other. 😅

It would have been fun to gamble with the Hooded Merganser repeating the Butcherbirf!

Opponent had a great GL engine, but didn’t really use it 😅

Yeah, it is fun to use the forest and play big point birds but Wingspan seems to rarely be an engine game now. That was one of the core aspects of the game and it's unfortunate that's gone.

I think engine still happens but it’s the the premium strategy anymore.
