Apples are the quintessential fruit because it's cheap, keeps well, and is accessible pretty much year round. Where I live apples and bananas are the cheapest fruit that you can get regardless of what's in season. The rest is hit and miss and can be quite expensive. If you are trying to keep your kids healthy on a budget, sticking an apple in their lunch is a way to go.
Apples are accessible year round because of modern farming, but before they were only harvested in the fall. It’s not that fruit is bad, but historically we don’t eat it year around or in abundance because they weren’t easy to obtain. So now that we have these high sugar fruits available year round, we graze on them like animals and it can become unhealthy very fast because of the sugar. (Not to mention, we’ve selectively bred and changed these fruits to contain higher fructose content so that they are more sellable. In the wild you’d be hard pressed to find berries that aren’t very tart or sour.)
Fun fact, the Bible never actually says the fruit is an apple. That's what people added later. I believe the Romans started the whole apple thing because of a mistranslation or something. The forbidden fruit was always unspecified in Genesis. But many people believe the fruit may have been a fig because there is a direct reference to fig leaves later in the story. 🙂 So, apples were innocent all along lol
@@Lady_de_Lis i think it probably _was_ meant to be a fig. For thousands of years the fig has been considered symbolic of fertility & desire because they resemble a womb. That fits nicely with the fact that the “forbidden knowledge” was a metaphor for the knowledge of sexual sin/lust and losing one’s innocence.
@@maenad1231 I took "forbidden knowledge" to be awareness of self (as in awareness of one's separation from the rest of reality, which ironically is the sole cause of one's separation from the rest of reality). With awareness of self comes identity and ego, which begets Pride, and from there the other six sins. Similar to how the foundation of Evil is "knowledge of good and evil". Because before the two concepts are differentiated they cannot be enacted or experienced.
That's a sad list of fruits. Need more different types fruits, pears, grapes, pineapples, papayas, lychees, peaches, dragonfruits, mangosteen, cherries, blackberries, guavas, pomegranates, mangos, avocados, melons, nectarines, plums, grapefruits, etc. xD
yesssss, I need to add more veggies to my meals, I mostly eat broccoli. That’s it. It’s easy to cook & holds up well when meal prepping, but I need more ideas of other veggies!
Carrots are super healthy and good for eye health and cataracts prevention. Here is some carrot info from the web: “ It is a crunchy, tasty, and highly nutritious. Carrots are a particularly good source of beta carotene, fiber, vitamin K1, potassium, and antioxidants ( 1 ). They also have a number of health benefits. They're a weight-loss-friendly food and have been linked to lower cholesterol levels and improved eye health.”
this whole notion of "fruit is unhealthy" has been propagated by these psychotic carnivore-diet/keto zealots. Yes, some fruit is absolutely PACKED with sugar and you have to be careful...but to state that fruit in general is bad for you is moronic
Yes can we get another really extensive and long one including sugar content? My dad is diabetic but also has gout and has an extremely limited number of food he can consume and this would be so helpful
In Europe, there are ancient types of apples that fruit as late as December and others as early as April. Apples were an all-year fruit. In Poland, among other countries, we make fruit soup (dried fruit, cream, water, noodles) for Christmas. It is a total B.S. that your ancestors did not eat fruit, unless they lived in some kind of extreme climate.
Don't forget chestnuts. They fruit in October, and at least here in Northern Italy they are pretty ubiquitous. I have a house innawoods and I could harvest literal _tons_ of the stuff if I wanted. All the way until the middle ages chestnuts were an important winter crop. They go bad easily if not dried quite quickly, but it's a crop that requires zero maintenance (it just grows wild) and is quite high in calories (300kcal/100g when dry). They can also be milled and used as flour (though chestnut flour has quite a strong taste and it's usually better to dilute it with wheat). Today chestnuts are a niche food, but any early humans who ignored such a plentiful and easy to get source of winter food would have been steamrolled by the ones who didn't.
same! Honestly we eat the flower and stem of the banana tree too. Also apples, watermelon and banana taste amazing to me so its the most imp thing. But then she did give magic spoon cereal better tier than most fruits :')
So glad you are talking about it! :) It just makes me wanna scream when people telling me that they don't/can't eat fruits because of sugar...! I never seen a person who got sick or obese by eating fruits, it just doesn't work like that. Keep eating fruits and doing such a great work! We need these words out there ;)
These people tend to forget that there is a difference between natural sugars found in fruits (not transformed of course) and refined sugars. Also if I am not wrong, fruits and vegetables don't raise your blood sugar levels as much as industrial white bread or high carb foods.
I LOVE your videos, and they've helped me so much! However, it'll be a cold, cold day before I pay $39.00 for four boxes of cereal, no matter how fantastic they are.
You should do one for vegetables. I eat broccoli and cauliflower all the time just because they are low calorie and the taste is ok, but I was shocked at how many vitamins and minerals they have.
Try Brussels sprouts. Never boil them, steam them till just crisp or cut in half in stir fry. Fantastic little parcels of vitamins, minerals and flavour.
@@watchesfromedges Oh, don't worry, I did try them XD. I don't have a steamer, but I do stir fry them, they are delicious. I'd eat them more often, but they don't always have them at the nearest supermarket and i'm too lazy to go much further.
Great video! I get super annoyed when people insist you shouldn't eat fruits on a diet because of the sugar and I am glad that you made this so I can share with the fruit haters
Personally, I don't eat fruits on a diet, but that's not because of the sugar content but rather because eating watery foods (like fruits and vegetables) on an empty stomach makes me nauseous :(
What heck is wrong with those people eating the kiwi's peel?! However, I didn't know that the peel helped to absorb more nutrients from the the fruit itself, so thank you for all those notions! The only vitamin I could recall, in terms of function in our body, was the vitamin K, which contributed to blood coagulation and it's also found in tomatoes' peel.
I think it was an unfair B for the watermelon, like you said, probably because of where you live... Although I've lived in a warm very tropical country and as well in cold AF country and anywhere I've bought watermelons they 95% of the time have turned out excellent. There are tons of videos on how to cut them properly without much hassle and if it's because of their weight, there are also very small watermelons out there. To me, watermelons will always be a 'S' Love them so much 🍉🍉🍉🍉
Girl you are hilarious. I absolutely adore you. *Eats cereal* "Am I supposed to make eye contact?" 😂 Just one of your many gems in this video lol. Thank you for what you do, Kiana! 😍🥰
I am from Colombia, and this kind of videos make me so grateful of that, I mean, I could get all those fruits (and way more) all year long, just like walking less tan 10 minutes from my home, at a reasonably low price 🍃🍃🍃 and I belong to the city, so imagine how is it in the countryside 🍓🍒🍎🍉🍑🍊🍍🍌🍄🍈🍏🍐🥝🍇🥥🍅
I used to work at a grocery store and thought it would be a cheap healthy meal to eat a sixth of a watermelon that they were selling as my dinner on my break. I got the worst stomach ache I have ever had from that.
Do you think it was the watermelon itself or the freshness/cleanliness of when/how it was cut? I just have to ask cause watermelon is one of my favorites and if I had a stomach ache from watermelon I would be unhappy lol
I actually really enjoyed this video, one of my faves! More fruit please! I would also be so curious to see comparisons of leafy greens like iceberg lettuce vs romaine vs spinach :)
You should do a video on the difference between vegetables and fruits calorie/nutrient wise! I think that there is a grey area where fruits are healthy in that they do provide life-sustaining nutrients, but on the same hand are often chalk-full of sugars. Vegetables are similar but aren't as sugary - I think (lol). Great video as always! Much love :)
I ate so many blueberrys as a snack while losing weight and I am so glad to see they got a S-Tier. It's my favorite fruit ever. Btw. I love your channel. Your videos gave me so much motivation to remain my weight loss!
@@FiveFoxesInATrenchcoat For me it starts with an itchy throat and mouth followed by a swollen tongue and shortness of breath with stomach aches. Haven't eaten a kiwi in 20 years, not worth it but I still remember liking the taste ^^
Kiana I love your videos so much! It’s super awesome to see your personality on screen, you feel so approachable and genuine, and it just feels like I am watching a friend talk to me about nutrition in a cool and scientific way. Thank you for making these videos!
Been watching since your first few uploads, and I have to say I love the focus on micronutrients here! Would definitely like to see more like this. The tier list was a fun way of framing it too.
Straight up on an average day I eat: half a banana, 2 kiwis, 1 apple, 1 pear, and about 200g of blueberries/mixed berries. I eat more vegetables than fruit, but I love my fruit!
While I love the taste of apples, it boggles mind how many varieties there are. Some are fairly priced for the flavor you get, but then you get your apples that are a little too pricey considering the lackluster flavor and lack of crispness provided. It's funny how certain apple types are trademarked. I'll buy them occasionally during fall, just the same though, hoping I picked a good apple out of the bunch.
I heard avocados actually have a higher potassium and fiber content than bananas! Would it be possible to ask for a part 2 that also includes grades for sugar content? I loved this video Including your attempts at camera tricks :)
Petroleum is oil that comes out of the ground. From ancient decayed life forms compressed for a million years. I'm pretty sure there's no petroleum in apples, my man
Happy that Blueberries and Strawberries are so highly ranked, they're my favorites. Bonus points for my fuzzy friend the Kiwi! Love their tangy flavor and chewing the skin is oddly satisfying.
"This video... If it wasn't your favorite... well, it wasn't mine either". I don't know why but this made me smash that like. Maybe just because of your down-to-earthness:D Anyway, I'll take any video from you honestly
Really love the light hearted way you recorded this video, would actually go as far as to say that this was one of your most entertaining videos so far.
I'm curious what impact eating local, seasonal, ripe fruit and veg has on the nutrient content. I assume the values used here are more of an average nutritional value.
I LOVE THIS VIDEO GIRLL I just love that you back your videos with data and you're so amazing, literally changed my perspective on food, I'm eating so many whole foods now 🙏 (i watch all your vidoes, multiple times hahaha)
"am I supposed to make eye contact?" hahahahaah your ads are the best. Just so you know, I was unconsciously expecting eye contact and I laughed so hard when you said that 🤣🤣
girlll I love you my fellow Canadian! you are so well spoken and entertaining plus I love your positive energy. I would love to see a vegetable tier list next. keep up the good content :)
Lol I liked this video Kiana. I already eat watermelon and blueberries, but your list opened my eyes to kiwi, so I will check them out. Thank you. I hate apples too. When apples are ripe, they bruise easily and no one wants to buy and eat them. So often they are picked before they mature. While in storage, then they are exposed to ethylene to speed up the ripening process that would have happened on the tree. And my mom bought so many nana when I was a kid that I can’t stand to eat them now.
But on watermelon you can tell pretty easy which one is good or mushy, by hearing test. Also you can tell how watery or sweet it is by looking at the shape and skin.
See, when it comes to watermelons, you just gotta FEEL it. By which I mean, you send a wizard to go buy you one (without fail, my husband will buy the perfect watermelon every time, it's seriously magic).
Here’s my idea of cereal; drop bits of cheese, rice puffs, & fruit into a bowl of whole milk. Or even just cheese & fruit that go with savory flavors like tomatoes or pineapple. Or mangoes Or you could still make it sweet, like a liquid cheese cake, but with no added sugar.
