Should be mentioned that people naturally speak in feminine vocal tones at work due to higher pitch sounding friendlier and less threatening

I'm thinking about coming out at work without really having my voice nailed down yet, ty for this :))

At work, we also code switch because we need to loopback in our cadence meetings to synergize our corporate blue sky vison statement with investor relations.

Your video popped up in my feed, the almighty algorithm favoured you! Under sun and sky, we greet you warmly. PS: The video says code switching is used since 70 years ago. I wanted to note that it's used in so many countries and cultures to switch between languages as well. German, French, Italian, Arabic, it's always there. So don't worry and have fun!

What I meant was that the term code switching first emerged in academic circles in the 1950s, not that the concept didn’t exist before then. Thank you for the comment!

Super validating to hear that this is not just a me thing! Also kind of liberating to think about it in terms of code-switching as opposed to just getting lazy/sloppy with my practice in more comfortable settings. Thank you so much for this!

This describes my voice pretransition exactly - I didn't even realize I was doing it until I started paying attention to my voice. On the happy side of things, it put me in a pretty excellent spot for voice training since I was so used to changing my voice subconsciously already.

I'm a cis male, but when I was younger I would essentially code switch (even though I had no idea what that was until now) in order to make my voice sound more welcoming, and when it was over the headset, I don't know how many times my voice was mistaken for being a female voice, it happened quite a few times.

As an autist, it's pretty much opposite with me. When on my own time, I sound more like however I would like to sound. While at work "I" am a corporate function, which was codified in a non-gendered way. That said, I don't currently have a job, home, nor friends so I don't even know what code switching would mean for me anymore.

Something's messed up for me cause I find it a lot easier to do my girl voice around friends than at work (I'm out as trans at work), and even easier to do in private. Maybe it's because my voice hasn't had as much time to warm up when I start work, and by the evening it has? Or maybe I just want to sound more authoritative at work 🤷‍♀

I tend to code switch a lot in and out of english/spanish, and my voice is much more femme in english than spanish, which is my native language.
