I'm not sure what you mean by the long term effects of GMO's(and by that I'm assuming you mean GM crops) are unknown, because we do know; countless studies have been performed, with easier to digest meta analyses on these, that show GM crops have no more negative health effects than artificially bred crops. And, while many GM crops are modified for extra pesticide protection, that's certainly not the only thing. Some have larger yields, produce pesticides themselves- not dangerous to humans- are more nutritious, can survive harsher weather conditions etc. Specific genetic modification using tools like CRISPR is basically a faster and more efficient way of performing artificial selection. We're still just shaping the gene pool, but a lot more selectively, and with the added benefit of being able to splice new genes in. Currently the agricultural system in most of the world, especially in places like the US and Brazil, is very privatized and exploitative. And GM crops are helping propagate that, but that's a problem with capitalism and the agricultural industry, not the idea of GM crops.
Don't take it for granted what you read and hear from "experts" and "scientists". Just take a look at the past and you'll understand why. Many experts and scientists can be and are bought. A perfect example is the tobacco industry. Trust me if Look into it asking things like "did scientists or experts ever say tobacco was good?" Then try is tobacco bad. You know tobacco is bad I'm sure but the point is there's always a second opinion surrounding big businesses and big money. The problem is the big businesses have big money to pay off experts and scientists to say it's all good no problems here. The people who want to tell the truth are often shut down lacking funding etc and can't get the word out very well. Just like with the tobacco industry. They started a million dollar ad industry to convince the public tobacco was not bad. Like I said look into it. It'll be worth it when you learn not to automatically trust "the experts"
@@trymeimalreadyaghost1456 yes but your thinking of an age where information was harder to come by, in this day and age there are always gonna be conflicting results from.the scientific community
@@randomizer6553 I was just referencing history but rest assured things haven't changed much. Conflicting results of course because half or so of the scientific community still works for bribes and that half tends to have the best funding making them the loudest voice. That much hasn't changed. The public for the most part would believe anything the scientific community says automatically. That's a problem considering history (which by the way repeats itself)
Same with high fructose corn syrup and we not only know it's bad, but, it's also banned in other countries. yet in the US according to the "experts" It's fine in small doses Except that now it's in so much stuff on the grocery store shelves that you can hardly avoid it for trying so you end up eating a lot of it. It's not just in unhealthy things like soda or candy either. It can also be found in "healthier" food choices like honey peanut butter salad dressing oils beef jerky etc. Worst part about it is even if you literally cut out all food with high fructose corn syrup on the label you're still not safe from it. High fructose corn syrup is now going by at least 30 different names like fructose, glucose and even sugar.
Uh no everywhere around the world has gmos a big peach is a gmo they don’t exist in the wild same as apples corn big tomatoes etc. idk where you got that gmos are only allowed in the USA
GMOs are allowed in other countries, not just the US. And there’s no harm in GMOs either. Any claims made about GM crops have to be verified by the FDA, and even before that they have to go through many tests to ensure their safety. There is no reason backed by evidence that GMOs should be banned.
Just because the FDA approved something does not make it safe for us at all the FDA, the WHO the big deep state agenda get and keep people sick wake up America
This is a very uneducated stance because it’s not only allowed in the US, other countries have used them too and in many instances it’s helped prevent fruits from being diseased or infected. almost every vegetable and fruit you eat is a GMO and they wouldn’t be edible without it.
I just love the ”Nature good, human bad” narrative😂 We humans had to modify so many things to enjoy life and feel comfortable, because at end of the day nature doesn’t give a shit about us.

Maybe start collecting the seeds from the food you consume and regrow them with some mud, it shouldn’t be that complicated. How bout you stop buying your food from the store all the time and start buying cheap bulk from suppliers and manufacturers (which the stores that you get your supply from already do but resell for higher price) or how about you stop complaining and get your finances up. As a British organic farmer I can tell you all one thing. It is cruel on animals and the produce across the board is substandard compared to conventional. Live the rest of your life unable to access medical treatment and tell me you will live a healthier and longer life. Why then subject animals to this. Don't want genetic modification. Yeah because chickens always looked like that. Why does selective breeding sound ok to people but gm terrifies people. The answer. Stupidity. Ask a starving parent from anywhere around the world if they want us to stay organic or if they want the ability to feed their child. And see how they feel about your fancy carrots.
What do you mean by gmo ingredients? An additive to a plant food product can be used in a gmo plant or a non gmo plant. Gmo is simply the method of how that particular genetic makeup of the plant itself came to be, and has nothing to do with preservatives, antibiotics, etc. Are you confused or intentionally misleading people? Are the naturally cross bred genetic variations tested to the standard that you would ask Gmos be? Nature contains many substances that are carcinogenic, toxic, poisonous, inflammatory, etc.
then you get cancer and your dna is degenerated and you damage your gene=seed and your children inhereit retardation and have miserable life and they;re children too all fucked up
I think GMOs have a lot of potential. However, I’ve also seen some problems caused by GMOs. A close friend of mine is allergic to something (I wasn’t given many details) found in many GMOs. I think businesses should have to label foods with GMOs, but I don’t think they should be banned.
GMO foods are fine to consume. They’ve help us countless times weather virus and crop disasters. Organic grown foods, still get sprayed with pesticides (I’m a agricultural farmer from Aus). Crops in general, GMO or not destroy land and flora. The bugs, the habitats of animals. All for profit. But that’s my way of life.
One of your claims is that hybrids are the result of natural pollination methods. That is so wrong. The first step in developing a hybrid is to force two separate breeds of plant to pollinate only itself, and to do that for many generations, so that every specimen ends up with two identical chromosomes of each type. You do that with both starting breeds. Then you have to arrange to cross them. If you allow them to self pollinate them at that stage you don't get hybrids. So far the whole process has involved manual pollination, nothing natural. But in fact, most hybrids are made with a little less labor by the following trick. Once you have the two "pure lines" you somehow get one of those to produce no pollen at all. Then when it is fertilized it must be the pollen from the other pure line. Do you consider any of this to be natural pollination methods?
how can I have a stance when the long term effects are unknown? assuming there are any. shouldn't we be more concerned about the poison sprayed on our food?
That’s a better answer on this, but the answer’s are not completely unknown. real information is very accepting of GMO’s because they actually help develop our food properly. But yes, we should be concerned about farmers using poisons and harmful chemicals, this is where the problem comes from but they do not come directly from GMO’s.
To amplify thegrimmer's comment, a wild banana is mostly crunchy seeds. The dumbest anti-GMO commenters always assume that there are only two plant breeding methods, GMO and selective breeding. There are, of course, many more and often they are used together with one another. Does any sensible person believe that bananas could be bred by selective breeding, which means saving and replanting the seeds of the best specimens each year? How do you do that when there are no seeds to save?
GMO and traditional selectively bred foods, both employ agricultural science. GMO scares those 'too lazy' to be informed of the scientific facts, rather they fearfully embrace obsolescent technology! GMOs achieve the SAME results as 'old fashioned' selective breeding does, yet it's done in a single splice 'rather' than many generations. The narrator portrayed GMO as unnatural, which displays an obvious lack of knowledge, and a bias against.
I feel like GMO and non GMO crops are both important. GMO can really help save the environment and help reduce the need for pesticides. Where as there are non GMO crops that go backs thousands and thousands of years and are very present in a lot of cultures and those crops could end up going extinct. I think we should have both.
You’re gone then, how can you make and change the genetic makeup of a plant without it having potentially dangerous consequences. It is rude to assume it is fine and should be ingested in fact it should be illegal
@@alexl5660the FDA, USDA and EPA all monitor GMOs to make sure you don't become sick from eating and I'm not taking "but the government is lying to us" as an answer. Also it's actually pretty stupid to be afraid of "playing god".
A chemical is a chemical, it doesn't matter if natural or artificial. The only way to change the function of a molecule is to alter what's inside of it.
I think gmo is fine if and only if there is a transparent open network by and for the people that allows for highly tested and scrutinized scientific testing of the GMO products, although for non-consumption purposes it’s a godsend - make the hemp industry and fabric cost the lowest it’s every been or can be kind of stuff… make it so nobody has to ever go clothesless with the material examined routinely and with the highest safety in mind kinda stuff…

How many do their own research on GMOs? GMOs are bad for you. The bugs have become Immune to the pesticides in GMO's. So they are having to spray extra pesticide on the vegetables to kill the bugs. Eating Organic is best. I know Some think it's expensive to buy organic but if you price check everything you will find it really isn't that much more expensive. After awhile after Eating organic you will be able to taste the differences between organic and GMO's with most vegetables especially fruit. Berries are a lot sweeter when organic in my opinion. Sometimes It is hard to tell if it's really organic if you have any doubt don't buy it. For instance if blueberries are huge and it says organic I don't buy it. I don't buy strawberries at the grocery store buy them at your local farmers market. Sometimes the prices at local farmers market seem a little much. I have to remind myself that they're going by the pound and for 1 person I don't really need to buy a pound of strawberries or a pound of red potatoes I'll just buy three or four. Sometimes the grocery store may not have what I want in an organic vegetable. It's OK if you're not always eating organic balance it out.
